We were both girls with big hopes and dreams. But because of one piece of paper, we were on two different sides of the law. I didn’t really understand before what that paper meant. But now, I was starting to realize, it meant the difference between living in freedom and in fear.
You have a gift…You have to do something with it.
I like messing around in the kitchen, experimenting with different ingredients, seeing what works, what doesn’t work…It’s just like you and your writing.
Maybe being Chinese wasn't about liking red bean shaved ice or having serious chopstick skills…Maybe it had to do with yi qi and all sorts of Chinese values living inside me, just waiting to be discovered.
