Who should read it? People who want to found tech startups, people who want to invest in tech startups.
A practical and tactical guide to modern tech startups in the 2010-20 and present timeframes. Practical and direct coverage of ideation to exit by merger or IPO. Idea validation and testing, corporate structure, deal terms, cap tables, recruiting, culture and company building, powerful advice with concrete steps and figures to consider right now.
Perhaps consider adjusting dollar figures a little from the examples up to the present day, but much of the advice is very concrete and immediately applicable.
4 Star reviews mean I really enjoyed this book, I will likely read it again someday. I would recommend it to many people and it changed my mind about something important.
Fun read. After reading this book, I feel like I have a better conceptual grasp of the journey of a business that utilizes funding to grow.
I see this book as being the "yang" to the yin of a book like "Rework". Shirish clearly knows what he's talking about when growing a company using funding. I'm not convinced it's the right answer for every successful tech business, but I do think there are many points worth arguing.
The most impactful sections for me, by far, discussed finding the product/market fit for an application.
Good to go back for reference at different stages of a starup. I skimmed through some of the more late stage startup chapters, but think they'll be useful later on.
Thorough and practical. The book that founders and aspiring founders should read. Useful for all entrepreneurs. College professors teaching the subject should read this.
