Problems at the Pub by Kirsten Fullmer takes us back to sugar Mountain and another investigation by the Ladies Historical Society, this time a tax increase implemented by the towns Mayor. The characters in this town make the story come alive with a great plot a little romance it’s a great read. Kirsten Fullmer is quickly becoming one of my new favourite authors. Highly recommended.
I received a free copy of each book in this series in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my opinion of these books.
I was really really excited to get started on this series. Like the nana I am I did not check things out properly before I got started so clever me started on book 4. So I can very safely say you definitely need to read these books in order or even read the other books in the series to know what is what. It is just a complete bonus that I did get to read them all.
5 stars equals 5 reasons right?
It is an adorably fun cozy mystery. Yes it is the genre. But it is also very much the story. It is so fun to read and get lost in. Monique is the baddest of bad ass females. She doesn’t take shit from anyone and she really knows how to be her own woman. It is based in a small town that is run by a group of woman who belong to an underground club. Like for reals. Tony is a really fun character. I love the mystery surrounding him in the beginning of the book. I loved that the author took her time showing us who he is and kept the mystery going. Loved the supporting characters. The other ladies in the society are really fun and I look forward to getting to know them better. So I cannot wait to jump back in to some more fun in Sugar Mountain.
I love this series. It is set about an hour from my house, so I feel at home here. The main characters (The Ladies' Historical Society) are quite a bunch of characters. The mayor is always up to something but the ladies are always on the case. I wish I'd gotten caught up on one of the fellas from previous books a little more but hopefully this isn't the last book in the series and I can "see" all these folks again soon.
The Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society strikes again!
Author Kirsten Fullmer has worked in the field of engineering, has been a teacher at the college level, was a freelance consultant, and has an affinity for art. Now retired, she has published ten novels including her six part HOMETOWN SERIES, LOVE ON THE LINE, and her SUGAR MOUNTAIN series of which PROBLEMS AT THE PUB is Book 4.
One kindred spirit in Kirsten’s romance novels is the presence of strong female characters and how they cope with love, life and relationships. She makes us fall in love with Sugar Mountain, North Carolina as she shares atmosphere the Prologue _ “The sleepy tourist town of Sugar Mountain, North Carolina is filled with tree-lined streets and charming shops. The flower boxes overflow with blooms and the sidewalk performers play cheerful tunes, hoping for a tip. Delicious smells and unique treasure fill every store window. Most visitors extend their stay if they can, or at minimum, schedule another trip to town. In the summer the hiking and views can’t be beat, and in the winter the skiing is primo. So, what is it about Sugar Mountain that is strange?’ The question is placed before the curious reader and the novel unfolds.
Kirsten’s summary outlines the plot: ‘The enchanting tourist town of Sugar Mountain, NC is rewriting its tax codes, and no one knows why. A cozy mystery, a small town romance, and in Kirsten Fullmer’s hands this novel comes alive with vigor - a terrific continuation of her very popular Sugar Mountain series. Recommended on many levels.
Another crazy story and antics of the Sugar Mountain Historical Society
The crazy ladies of Sugar Mountain are at it again trying to figure out who the new assistant to the mayor is and what the crooked mayor is up to. The relationships of Sugar Mountain ladies always seem to be a little on the wacky side as they investigate the goings on around town. Funny and amusing...can't wait to see what they are up to next!
In the sleepy mountain town of Sugar Montain. The residents aren’t so sleepy, as a matter of fact Monica the local Pub owner is all together distracted. She is even more suspicious when the mayor hires Anthony Tidwell aka Tony. Can the secret ladies society get to the bottom of this? This was a quick fun read and one I highly recommend. u
Five stars. I enjoyed all four the books. I hated to come to the end of the last one. Loved the characters.
I would recommend these books to everyone. I actually laughed out loud while reading. Very enjoyable. Read Them. They were even free on Kindle unlimited.
Problems at the Pub by Kirsten Fullmer take us on another adventure in the quaint town of Sugar Mountain. Supposedly, the conniving Mayor Winslow is about to raise business taxes. The Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society knows he is up to no good again, especially after hiring an evasive assistant, Anthony Tidwell. Dedicated to keeping tabs on Tony, Monique offers him a room to rent. She has all she can handle when she finds she is attracted to her renter, her mom comes to visit, and visions of her dream are at hand.
I love the mild romance, suspense, and humor Kirsten Fullmer implements in her novels. Problems at the Pub dig deeper into the heart of Sugar Mountain’s mysterious Ladies Historical Society. Each lady in this group has her own unique skills and temperament, and they will grow on you. Monique’s grumpy disposition is explained as the story unfolds. Overall, these ladies have really grown on me. The author has a way of making you feel as if you were right there watching their crazy antics. The only drawback is I wish this novel was edited better.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it through in one evening. The mysterious Tony kept me puzzled. The ladies kept everyone busy. Monique's past and personality were revealed and explained. I'm ready for the next book!
Problems at The Pub is book number 4 from Kristen's fabulous Sugar Mountain series. A delightful tourist town in North Carolina that I couldn't help falling in love with, this is a mystery novel with a very simple story line so I found it easy to follow. The characters are likeable especially the secret group of women who take it upon themselves to investigate the corruption of the towns mayor. This novel was I felt at times a little unrealistic, nevertheless I still found it to be a fun, entertaining and easy to read book that I would recommend to my reading friends. I think Fullmer has a lot more to offer and I’ll definitely be looking out more of her books soon.

Another good read. A cute little cozy mystery. I love the group of people this surrounds being sleuths. Once again their mayor was up to no good. This time, he even hired a doggie assistant. The ladies are on the case. But this time they might meet their match in sleuthing.
The Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society wields a lot of power, but few people realise it. I enjoyed reading more about this unique group of diverse and determined women. The characters are wonderfully crafted, and intriguingly vibrant .
3. The 4th book in the Sugar Mountain series, Problems at the Pub, follows the Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society as they try to uncover the truth behind their mayor’s new tax codes. Unable to trust Mayor Winslow or his new assistant Anthony Tidwell. This group of clever and resourceful women will stop at nothing to uncover the truth and protect their town. I was quickly swept up in the setting of this book. The charming little town is only fun to read about but has a character of its own. I really enjoyed reading about a group of unique, insightful, courageous, and closely bonded women. The way they banter and look out for each other was funny and heartwarming. The mystery of the story is engaging and has enough twists to keep you on your toes. This is a great weekend read that will allow you to escape into an entertaining and delightful tale.
Problems at the Pub is the 4th installment of the Sugar Mountain series and continues the crazy adventures of the town ladies. Monique Brewer owns the local pub, and is dealing with her mom, Kim, and her attraction to the new assistant to the mayor, Anthony Tidwell. The mayor is rewriting the tax code, but the ladies think (correctly) that he is up to no good. The ladies continue their typical adventures, including masquerading and other wild actions. Should they trust Anthony, what is he doing with the mayor? Should Monique follow her heart? If you enjoy cozy mysteries with a lot of humor, you will enjoy this latest installment.
Problems at the Pub is the 4th book in a series about Sugar Mountain, NC and the Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society. It was the first book I read in this series, and I adored it. I fell in love with many of the characters and the quaint town of Sugar Mountain. It’s a cozy mystery that was unputdownable.
Mayor Winslow is rewriting the tax codes and no one knows why. This does not make the ladies happy, especially Monique, who is a local tavern owner and these new codes will affect her business. The ladies gather together to try and figure out why the Mayor is doing this and what he is really up to. The Mayor also hired an assistant, Tony Tidwell, who is an outsider to Sugar Mountain and a mysterious man. The ladies do not trust either one of them. The women work hard to get to the bottom of the new tax codes and protect their town. But can they uncover the truth and can they stop the Mayor? They seem to stop at nothing to uncover this mystery.
I really liked the women of the secret society especially Monique, as she will not take crap from anyone. They all had spunk, courage, wit and are all unique in their own ways. I highly recommend this book. I do want to go back and start from the beginning of the series to get to know the characters even more!
Someone recommended this one to me, so I gave it a try. I was immediately surprised at the humor. Kirsten Fullmer takes everyday situations, such as the opening scene of helping someone change a tire on their car, and makes them very amusing in the way she casts her characters. The upbeat, positivity of the book, despite being a mystery, makes it a light, uplifting read.
The plot and characters kept me engaged, and I’m sure people who have read the first three books in the series will enjoy it even more than I did as they see favorite characters return. The dialogue between the characters is natural, and it’s a fairly short book, so it makes for a nice, digestible volume to go through on a lazy afternoon.
I love these, gals. They have such odd and different personalities and age differences but work so strangely well together. I enjoy all their adventures.
A secret society of ladies, a sneaky no good mayor, and a handsome stranger...what could be more fun? Add in the crazy Vietnamese mother and a puppy, and it is a delight.
I enjoyed all four stories. I'm real picky about typos, whether it's leaving out a word completely or using an incorrect word. Each of the stories had many.
Another issue I have is too many names starting with the same letter: Michelle, Mildred, Monique and Stella, Sam, Sarah.
I liked each mystery as 'who dunnit'. Kept me guessing.
In the tourist town of Sugar Mountain, North Carolina, the crazy mayor is looking to raise taxes. The business owners are not too happy with this idea and are suspicious that the mayor is involved in another scheme which is really a scam. The Ladies Historical society is investigating as usual with their crazy antics and disguises. And there is a a new guy in town who is now the mayor's assistant. The ladies cannot seem to get a word out of him about what he is doing there, where he is from and any background whatsoever. Which just makes them more determined to find out! Meanwhile, Monique Brewer is the tavern owner and rents a room to Anthony Tidwell, the new mayos's assistant. Moniques' crazy mother shows up and decides to help her run the tavern and have dance nights and cook her Vietnamese specialties which are a big hit.
