RC Bridgestock (Bob and Carol Bridgestock) are story consultants on BBC's hit drama Happy Valley and ITV's award winning Scott & Bailey.

From the writers of Deadly Focus, Consequences, White Lilies and Snow Kills comes the latest D.I. Dylan thriller, Reprobates.

A burglary at Harrowfield mortuary. The body of 30 year old Kirsty Gallagher is missing.
Nearby, uniform police are searching the canal along with a small diving squad, following the discovery of some clothes by the bank side. The body of a naked man is hoisted from the murky depths. His ankles are tied by a piece of rope connected to concrete.
Kirsty’s decomposing corpse is eventually found and an arrest is made which leads to a network of men whom D.I Dylan can only describe as reprobates.

RC Bridgestock is the name that husband and wife co-authors Robert (Bob) and Carol Bridgestock write under. Between them they have nearly 50 years of police experience, offering an authentic edge to their stories. The writing duo created the character DI Jack Dylan, a down-to- earth detective, written with warmth and humour.

Bob was a highly commended career detective of 30 years, retiring at the rank of Detective Superintendent. As a police civilian supervisor Carol also received a Chief Constable’s commendation for outstanding work.

The couple are the storyline consultants on BAFTA winning BBC One police drama Happy Valley and series 3 of ITV’s Scott & Bailey.

The best book in the series so far. Dark topics handled with sensitivity while retaining a gripping and thrilling read. The police procedural is probably among the best you will read in any crime thriller.

RC Bridgestock - Retrobates.
Gosh, I read this ages ago and came across it on my Kindle again by accident. I meant to review it before but you know how it is! Anyway, this book was never going to disappoint. I love the DI Dylan series and feel I am getting to know him and his team as if they were real friends. I can never walk along a canal again without an image of a decomposing corpse floating before my eyes and I hurry along, just in case! I won't give the plot away but if you enjoyed Happy Valley and Scott and Bailey on TV - these guys were consultants - then you will enjoy their books. Realistic, written from their combined experience in the Police they cannot fail to produce a fab read. For crime fans who love a series which gives you chance to really get to know your characters this is one of those. 5* read

I re read the last few chapters of Snow Kills before I started this book, mainly so I could get reacquainted with the characters as it had been a while since I'd last read about D.I. Jack Dylan. I knew the minute I started reading Reprobate, there had been no need, it was as if I was back with old friends and family!

This was a wonderful read full of suspense, surprise mystery with many twists and turns to the story. A heart pounding, edge of your seat read!
I loved the character development of those that had committed the crimes and was intrigued by the way the story unfolds and the pieces to the jigsaw fitted together, many that I didn't see coming!

The chemistry between the main characters is superb. Dylan's, home life with Jen, has equally as much drama going on as his work life and the banter with his colleagues always puts a smile on my face.

What I like about this series, is that you know the authors have served many years in the police force so all the good and mundane procedures, paperwork scenes are true to life. I can not wait for the next book!

This was a wonderful read that I highly Recommend!

For me this is the best book in the DI Dylan series a cracking police procedural and a terrific read, a difficult subject matter handled with sensitivity written with a style that lures the reader into the story to the point that you don't want to put the book down. The fact that the authors have worked in the police force is as always very evident and the wealth of knowledge comes across clearly in making the story and plot lines believable at the same time as giving the characters real depth, I would thoroughly recommend this to any fan of the police procedural

Reprobates

I chose the rating because the book deserved it.I have always read a great deal and prefer a mystery murder most of all.I do read very quickly and find the reading devices available are great especially for holidays where carrying enough books in my luggage was never possible. I would recommend this series to anyone as a family we all read and mostly like similar books.

Dylan has a couple of strange cases... a missing woman's body from the mortuary and a man murdered in his ex wife's house....and somehow he will find connections...Vicky will step up as acting DS and she's just brilliant and fun. Dylan's home life is definite a refuge to his soul.

3.5 stars. I thought this was slightly better than the previous books in this series. The authors clearly know their police procedures but may need to dial the explanations back a bit.

Jack and his team are back and boy do they have some very strange cases to solve.

What I love about this series is that the authors manage to shock us in each book with the varied crimes that the team are working on. I have to admit the set of crimes committed in Reprobates, whilst baffling and shocking, didn't hit me quite as hard as the crimes in the previous novels but then that is real life, some crimes will always hit us harder than others, especially the ones that involve abuse or children.

All the cases seem to be isolated incidents and I love how through the great work, not just by Jack and his team, but also by Vicky in her new role, start to put all the pieces together and work out the connections of all three cases.

Jack and Jen are great characters which give the readers a glimpse of what it is like to be in the job as well as married to someone in it. It explores the relationships within both and it certainly makes for some great reading.

Yet another highly enjoyable novel that has left me very much eager to read the next one.

My thanks to the authors for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Although I have given RC Bridgestock's other novels a 5* Rating, 'Reprobates' gets a 4* Rating only because of the subject matter of their novel--sickos who are into having sex with dead bodies or photographing the dead. REPROBATES was written very well and did grip me from the beginning. I just did not like the topic matter it centered around. I have already purchased Robert and Carol's next novel, 'Killer Smile.' And am looking forward to reading this one and their many others to come!

Unputdownable

The most enjoyable part of this book was that it really seemed plausible. The characters all had personalities of their own, with a sense of humour and humility. So looking forward to the next book. Well done a great read
