What an awesome book. This is the kind of book that has you interested from the first page to the last. It is also the kind of book that you can easily give spoilers so let me just give you a little idea about the book.
It doesn't hurt to be nice to people when you meet them sometimes you are so much happier because you do. Clara took a vacation ten years ago and met a lady named Joan that needed a friend and a housekeeper. Clara decided to stay and became so much more to Joan.
Now that's all I am going to say except that it would be a shame if you didn't read the book because you would be missing a really good one.
Loved this story! I feel that the author drew you in with her descriptions. I felt like I was right there in the story. The characters were strong and relatable. I feel there was just the right amount of suspense to keep you reading. Clara and Mike’s story was easy to follow. Looking forward to reading the next book to see where their story goes. I was a volunteer ARC for this book and received the book to give an honest review.
A quick beach read that is a cute story. Clara has been a housekeeper and companion for the last 10 years. When Joan dies, her family descends to put everything up for sale and get their inheritance. Clara is given a week to vacate the home, find a job and new place to live. Joan’s niece and nephew are in for a big surprise. Cara is also in for a huge change in her life.
Liked the premise, not so much by end of the book. When I received a paperback copy of the book (beach reading) was surprised at how small, not even 200 pages. As for the read, lost me when the main character turned overly dramatic, wimpy yet book premise was that she is strong and resilient. Would not recommend.
This book was pretty cheesy. I would've liked some more romance. It seemed to be more about the heroine, Clara, and what's going on in her life than her falling in love with someone. For that reason, it read more fiction than romance
Sometimes out of bad things comes new and wonderful opportunities
Clara's parents were killed and her sister turned ugly. It was also too expensive to live alone in New York City so Clara decided she needed a new beginning. She ended up taking a job as a housekeeper for Joan Russell who owned a large beachfront mansion on Solomon's Island. Joan's remaining relatives (a niece and nephew) were not at all close and only saw Joan or called when they wanted money. Clara and Joan became very good friends and Clara cared for her while she was dying. When Joan's niece, Olivia arrived, she treated Clara horribly giving her less than a week to get out of the house, saying she took advantage of Joan, threatening her and trying to get her to sign questionable documents. Clara's s friend, Mackenzie does her best to support her and keep her spirits up. A chance fender bender brings Mike into her life, plus a new job, a new place to live and she gets to adopt Joan's dog Holly. Clara loves working for Mike and the two are attracted to each other. Olivia keeps threatening Clara trying to keep her from coming to the reading of Joan's will. She even gets a call with a man threatening her life. Clara does not want anything to do with anything Joan might leave her because of the vicious behavior of Joan's money hungry relatives. However, a visit from Joan's lawyer, a letter from Joan and Mike and Mackenzie's support help her change her mind and it will also change her life in a big way.
Beachfront Inheritance: Solomons Island Book 1 is by Michele Gilcrest. Solomons’ Island is a part of Martha’s Vineyard. Like other islands around it, tourism is a major moneymaking project for them. The inhabitants of the island are welcoming and take care of each other. This book enhances that trait as well as gives a hint of the importance of tourism. Caring for each other and family are the two traits the islanders are most proud of. Clara has worked for Joan Russell for ten years as housekeeper and has enjoyed it and doesn’t mind the isolation it brought with it. Clara became friends with her employer and definitely wasn’t ready for her death. Clara truly mourned the passing of her friend and was prepared to treat Joan’s family as well as she did Joan. However, Olivia and her brother were complete opposites of their mother. The first thing they did was contact a realtor to put the house up for sale and arrange for a company to stage the house. Since Clara’s apartment was part of the sale, it too had to be staged. Thus, Clara had to be out in less than a week. In addition, Olivia wanted her to set up and serve the reception following Joan’s funeral never once thinking Clara might want to attend. That was it, Clara was out of there with or without an apartment or a job! What was Clara going to do?
It was a page turner, I love books that have honest, caring people who are loyal to people that hire them to do a job which they put their whole heart into. I in the same sense hate people who are so greedy that cut you down, talk bad about you and you were the only one whom cared for their family but called you the greedy one. I been in this same senecio and it sucks but just like Clara and showed God above that the greedy family was just that!! Myself and my family loved this person like he was our family and they are the ones that will have to answer the Lord on their day of judgement!! Great book.
This was my first time reading anything by this author, but she made a fan out of me. I really enjoyed the overall flow of Clara's story and easily able to keep up with everything going on. I liked how the author doesn't over tell anything and keeps the chapters short, but keep you wanting to to know more. I loved this book and I plan to immediately go onto book # 2.
I really liked this story. It was had real life situations in it. Clara was the housekeeper and friend to a lady for ten years. She cared for the lady of the house during her battle with cancer. When she died, a niece and nephew flew in to grab that’ll that she had. They had a surprise coming to their evil ways. Enjoy the surprise.
Recommend to everyone who likes good clean reading and romance
I liked the beginning and the way good wins over greed.Mike and Clara are perfectly suited for each other.I hope there's more books about them and that this isn't the only one about them in this series. Shirley Ballard
It’s delightful to read about the self-serving Agnes showing up on the doorstep and wanting family to dig her out of the messes she created for herself for over 10 years. There are real people doing this to their hard working sisters/brothers while owning none of the responsibility for their poor choices.
This was a good story of loss and learning to love self and a new love found. The characters was well matched and storyline was great. Recommend this is a page turner story.
This book leaves you wanting more! A happy uplifting story with so much heart. You fall in love with the characters and feel like you are a part of their lives. I can't wait to read th second book.
This book has held my attention with surprising twist and turns as Michele Him rest develops the character and the story line of love and adventure. A great read.
Enjoyed this first book in the series. A good clean stor y one can get lost in. I am looking forward to following these characters as they meet new adventures. Thanks to the author for giving us something to read on a gloomy winter day.
This was a wonderful romance. The characters were strong supportive and the two very charming atmosphere. This is my first book by Michele Gilcrest and I highly recommend it.
Borrowed this from my local library, has a 1 1/2 star rating. It deserves way more. Beautiful romantic story with a bit of drama. Will continue reading the series.
This was my first time reading this author, but it won't be my last. I really enjoyed this book. I'm not very good at writing reviews, but I highly recommend this book. I will be getting the next one in the series.

I love this book, how Clara stood up for her right and dignity. I liked how the story brought life when she meets someone that had the same attraction between them.
