As an assistant/errand runner for the local newspaper in her hometown of Palm Shores, California, Hailey Webb has all kind of jobs. Sure, picking up dry cleaning and bringing lunch is not exactly what big dreams are made of, but if it pays rent, it’s good for now. What’s bad is having your bank account ravished by the hottest actor to ever walk the face of the earth while being threatened with a crowbar. That’s after said actor steals a plane and crashes it in the woods. And that is after he is accused of murdering his co-star in their latest action movie. With the prop weapon . . . that turned out to be a real gun.
Yep, Hailey’s job is way more exciting than she would have thought. Now she sets out to find the fugitive actor to get her money back, and she has to prove he is not the real killer. By finding the real one.
As Hailey navigates the world of the movie industry, she needs to watch her step, or she'll inadvertently become the lead in the next true crime reality TV show.
Deany Ray has always wanted to be a writer so she decided to take the plunge and dive into it. She loves writing cozy mysteries, as this is what she likes to read the most. Her favorite activities are traveling, going to the movie theatre, meeting up with friends and having cooking sessions with her awesome mom.
Hailey Webb is forced by Hollywood A-lister, Amery Fitzgerald, to help him escape from the police. To add insult to injury he steals her savings to fund his escape. But is he a murder? Amery doesn't realize that he made a big mistake. Now Hailey is determined to track him down and get back what's hers. Our heroine is such a feisty woman. I knew that she wouldn't let anyone or anything stop her. I love how she always ends up in the middle of the action. She's smart and sassy go getter. I'm glad to see that Mike, her coworker, appreciates her abilities. The hint of attraction between them adds sweetness to this cozy. Deany Ray's characters are easy to care about. Act It Out is a great mystery that's full of unexpected twists. There are so many suspects that I wasn't sure who the killer was or what their motive was. This is a quick read that kept me entertained. I can't wait for Hailey's next misadventure.
Hailey is once again in the wrong place at the wrong time . . . or is it the right place?
She's finally feeling like she can make her place a home; she’s borrowed Mike’s truck and gone on a shopping trip to get the little niceties – like a bed – that will make life more comfortable.
However, Mike suddenly needs his truck when news is breaking, and Hailey needs to meet him at the local airfield. Where she arrives to crowds of lookie-loos and cameras and the news that a recently arrested movie idol broke out of jail and STOLE A PLANE!
And her day just goes downhill from there. It’s quite a ride that Ray takes us on in this the second installment of the Hailey Webb Mysteries. And Hailey has a knack for being in the right place at the right time for ALL the action – even with her mother’s demands on her time. Act It Out is no exception. I read this one in one sitting, and I can guarantee you will too!

Hailey web is just an office runner for the newspaper she works for. You know, Laundry, lunch, research... The thing you may not know is ever since Hailey took the job, the papers have been selling faster than ever. And mostly thanks to Hailey's ability to stumble across crimes. This time, a simple shopping trip with a borrowed truck from Crime Reporter Mike Hadfield leads Hailey into her next adventure. Mike calls to let her know he needs his truck back as a lead actor has escaped from jail, and stolen an airplane, and was returning to the airport as the plane didn't have enough fuel. After a safe touchdown and crashing into a ditch, the manhunt is on. Hailey returns to her apartment to unload her purchases, she is kidnapped by the actor, and then has some money and all of her stuff stolen by him also. And that doesn't even mention all the drama from her powerful mom.
Hailey is out for revenge! And her stuff.
Another fun and fast paced story from a series that is quickly becoming my favorite from Deany Ray.
Another fantastic Hailey Webb mystery! Hailey’s job at the discovery Gazette is supposed to be running errands and doing research for the rest of the staff. When she borrows Mike’s truck for a shopping trip, he calls for her to bring it to him at the airfield for a breaking story that he needs his truck for.. The police are trying to catch an escaped murder suspect . When the suspect evades the police again, Mike sends Hailey on her way with the truck loaded with all her purchases for her apartment. When she gets home, she discovers she has brought the suspect with her! After he forces her to take him into town, give him money out of her account and steals Mike’s truck Hailey becomes obsessed with bringing him down.Add to that the hilarious hysterics of her mother and her best friend Kat and you’re in for a great time! I can’t wait for the next one!
What I liked about this book: 1) Well-written, intriguing, and engaging story. 2) Page-turning action. 3) Hailey’s developing personal story (friends, family, romance).
My Content Triggers Rating = Nearly clean. 1) Sensual Heat: mild – a kissing scene. 2) Violence: mild – no graphic violence. There are a few scenes that are violent in nature but nothing that creeps back at me after reading. 3) Language: mild – no “GD”, “MF”, or “F Bomb” in this story. I do remember one instance of the word. “as*” at the end of the story.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. This gift did not affect my review of the book. This review is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Hailey Webb is an office assistant for a local paper but somehow she always ends up in the middle of the news story. An innocent shopping trip leads to her being hijacked by a movie star escaping police custody. He claims he is being framed.and after running off with the truck, her purchases and her money, he offers a reward for anyone who can prove his innocence. Join Hailey, and friends as they try to find the elusive actor ,solve the crime and get the story . The story is fast moving with lots of action and humor. The characters are likable and fun. I am eager to see what happens next. I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest and freely offered review
For the first book in this series I complained that it started a little slowly. That changed dramatically in this 2nd book of the Hailey Webb series. This one starts with one of the hottest male action movie stars in Hollywood stealing a plane while trying to escape from jail for a murder he says he isn't responsible for. After he discovers the plane's fuel tank is almost empty, he flies the plane back and crash lands at the edge of the woods. When the police quickly get to the plane, the actor cannot be found. Hailey was on the scene of the landing with Mike, the crime writer for the newspaper where they both work. Of course Hailey ends up involved. She had borrowed his truck to buy a few things so her apartment didn't look so barren. What follows is one of the most terrifying weeks of her life. The Hollywood hunk threatens her with a crowbar and makes her withdraw the maximum amount allowed by the ATM, steals the truck and dumps it where Hailey's stuff is stolen and Mike's truck is trashed. And that's all in just the first few hours. This is a cozy mystery that does a very good job at both the cozy and the mystery parts.
Another interesting murder investigation that Hailey gets pulled into on her day off. A film crew is in town, shooting a movie. That's when the lead actress ends up dead from a shot by her male lead. He's obviously accused of murder and he takes off. Hailey gets called into the action by one of hte newspaper reporters.
This story takes a few unexpected turns. Even though the subject is murder, the story is fun, entertaining, and very well written.
This story can be read by any reader. I recommend it.
ACT IT OUT IS OUTSTANDING Hailey jumps right into the action. Her favorite hunky movie star is accused to killing his leading lady, who then is arrested, escapes, steals a plane and returns because it has low fuel. From there, he escapes the crowd and the police, steals Hailey’s truck, new furniture she just bought (and hasn’t even gotten home yet) and $2000 cash from her. It seems Hailey has a talent for finding trouble. Can she track down this elusive star, clear him of murder and get her money back? Deany Ray has outdone herself. You will not be able to put this book down!
The star of the series certainly has some bad luck, although she gets right back up, dusts herself off, and forges ahead. Finding out that her movie idol is not what she expected, he starts a crazy adventure for her. Love the bff, Kat, the other characters memorable. But I have to say, I really, really dislike her mother. I'm trying to figure out how a woman that abrasive keeps employees if she treats them even a bit like she does her daughter. Can't wait to read the next book. They just seem to get better with each volume.
I purchased this as part of a bundle called THE HAILEY WEBB MYSTERIES: Volumes 1-3.
Wow, this story had so many ups and downs with the storyline. I mentioned in the story #1 you'd have to suspend belief, this one you really need to. How the h seems to be in the wrong place over and over was too much.
You will be surprised who the villain is, the reason was over the top.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, slow burn, clean and at times funny banter. Lord's name used in vain once. (ljb)
Hailey is relaxing into her new job and looking forward the movie filming nearby. Her favorite actor is the lead. Then the female lead is shot and her idol is the suspected guilty party. That is when things really get fun. Hailey ends up in more unexpected situations and she is determined to find the "real" killer. These are just such fun to read, the twists and turns keep you guessing until the end.
This book had so much action and excitement that I couldn’t stop reading. The characters feel real people. Reporter Hailey Webb ‘s encounters with movie actor Amery Fitzgerald trying to apprehend him are dangerous and sometimes funny but never boring. Hailey is one determined lady to get the scoop on Fitzgerald and get her money and property back.
I really enjoyed reading this and looking forward to the next book in the series. Thanks for a great plot and dynamic characters.
I'm enjoying the Hailey Webb series. It's fun common know cursing, in the mystery is always fun to track along. Hailey is a disaster magnet and it's makes for a great read. I am liking the development of the potential romance with her and Mike. Looking forward to seeing how that moves forward. I am enjoying this author. Looking forward to book 3. Highly recommend this 1. Told only in the POV of the main character.
Still pretty new on the job, Hailey can't resist following a news story involving hot actor Amery Fitzgerald, that she unwittingly gets sucked into by returning a co-worker's borrowed truck. What happens is a hilarious series of odd occurrences, sightings, and snooping around in the guise of a second job. Great characters in this fast moving mystery that shows us a little movie making and Hollywood style. I loved the book! Only problem was it was over all too soon!
I had never heard of this author before but I got a recommendation from a newsletter I follow for Kindle Unlimited books. There is just enough suspense to keep you guessing and I fell in love with the believable characters. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
This high quality cozy mystery is lovely and wonderful ... then Bam! ... the killer movie star jumps out with a crowbar and we're off for a wild ride to save her shopping. Paced to keep you on the edge of your seat, well written and highly entertaining! Next please!
i really love this series! I love Hailey! this book will keep you turning the pages and not want to put it down! Fast paced, fun read, filled with interesting and complex characters! A must read! I cannot wait for the next book!
I am enjoying this series, the characters are likable and Hailey's desire to solve the case leads to some hilarious situations. Looking forward to the next book.
Good book, good characters. The story flows easy w a few suprises. I like that the characters r easy to imagine them being someone u know. This is definitely a great job to have for the variety. I can identify w always stumbling upon a mess. Really cute!
I actually laughed out loud over a couple of parts but then the author had to use the Lords name in vain and that too away from the enjoyment of reading the book. I won’t read anything else by this author.
Fast paced and fun, reporter Hailey Webb leaves no crab salad unturned as she hunts down the heartthrob actor accused of killing his costar as she moonlights on set.
