Highland war heroes rebuilding their lives grapple with ladies forging their own paths—who will win?
Regency Scotland comes alive in the vibrant and sexy new SCOTS OF HONOR series by USA TODAY bestselling author Eliza Knight. Scottish military heroes, who want nothing more than to lay low after the ravages of war in 19th century France, find their Highland homecomings vastly contradict their simple desires. Especially when they meet the feisty lasses who are tenacious enough to take them on, and show them just what they’ve been missing out of life. In battle they can’t be beaten, but in love, they all find the ultimate surrender.
Scarred by the brutal ravages of war, Lorne Gordon, Duke of Sutherland and Colonel in the Royal Regiment of Scotland, returns to the Highlands to discover that his clan thought him long dead. His greedy half-brother has assumed his title, sold his family seat, and disappeared with the fortune. Once he engineers the return of his title, he must convince the new estate owner to reverse the wholly legal sale with the promise that his half-brother and the funds will be found. However, that goal seems impossible when Lorne discovers the buyer is none other than the sister of his ex-betrothed.

*Read with a wistful sigh* So, I signed up for an Audible subscription. This was my first audiobook, and I am most definitely a reader because what kind of idiot reads whilst listening to the same story's narration? Me, that's who! For me, listening to books means a bedtime story, and I start falling asleep, and by the way, I had one of the best night's sleep. It was not due to the book, the plot or the narrator, but it was simply the concept of listening to a story.
The weird combination of reading what you are hearing, clearly had an impact on my experience with this book. I believe when I re-read this, it will be different. So, here's what I got...
Half-assed Review - My first Eliza Knight, and by no means my last. - It was not what I expected! When I read the blurb, I thought I would find an angsty, emotionally charged plot, but this had an almost a light-hearted feel to it. - I cannot particularly comment on the writing or the pacing, but what I heard was good, and I could have read it in half the time of narration. - I liked this crackling enemies to lovers romance. Lorne & Jamie had good chemistry on paper. Listening to the intimacy was very disconcerting. Like really weird. But their banter was fun, and I could see why they fell for each other. - Lorne was a lovely hero. Calm, stoic, sweet, Scottish (yes!), Duke (yes!), soldier (yes!), just a perfect combination of cute & a brute! - I liked Jamie equally. I loved that she was prickly by nature and not just to Lorne. Gotta love a stubborn Scottish shipping magnate! - Predictable though it was, the subplot was quite engaging.
Highlights... - The narrator did a Scottish accent, and that was fun - He also lowered his voice during Jamie's dialogues, hilarious - A splash of anti-lunacy! The best moniker I've ever heard for a drink
I am very much looking forward to continuing with this series. Reading, not listening!
After enduring the horrors of war and two years of imprisonment, Lorne Gordon, the Duke of Sutherland and a former Colonel in Scotland’s Royal Regiment is finally able to return to his beloved home in the Highlands. Unfortunately, he returns to find his clan in shambles, having thought him dead, and his castle having been illegally sold by his grasping half-brother, who has also absconded with the funds. Now Lorne must get his life back and that means confronting the buyer, Jaime Andrewson, with the illegality of her purchase and promise of funds. But since Lorne was betrothed to Jaime’s elder sister and then failed to marry her, Jaime has nurtured a hatred of him and won’t be easily convinced to cooperate with him on anything.
This was definitely a textbook enemies to lovers story. In fact, I’ve rarely read a heroine with such a strong animosity toward the hero and one that held out for so much of the book. Lorne may have just been happy to know someone was thinking of him, even if it was to wish him ill, but I wasn’t entirely convinced, even when Jaime did admit that her feelings for him were in fact love. But to be fair, love and hate are two sides of the same coin and that is definitely well showcased here. Jaime held her unfounded grudges for a bit too long for my taste, willfully believing the worst of Lorne despite evidence to the contrary, so that made her reversion to loving him feel rather abrupt and questionable to me. I did find this story to be enjoyable once Jaime opened her eyes and she and Lorne started to have some honest communication between them. The mystery aspect of this one was somewhat obvious, but with the quick pace of this story, I didn’t really mind and I will always love a Scottish Highlands setting.
Return of the Scot Scots of Honor #1 Eliza Knight ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lorne Gordon, Duke of Sutherland and Colonel in the Royal Regiment of Scotland, has finally returned home to the Highlands just to discover that his clan thought him long dead. His greedy half brother has assumed his title and sold his family seat. So now it's up to him to convince the new estate owner to reverse the sale that was made with his half brother and make sure that the funds will also be tracked down and given back. That may sound easy enough, but quickly becomes a problem once Lorne discovers the buyer is none other than the sister of his ex-betrothed. You see he didn't exactly call off the wedding on the best terms and everyone thinks he left her pregnant and alone. This couldn't be further from the truth, but Lorne doesn't exactly have the time or the energy to explain it all. It seems he is going to be given no choice though. If he wants his castle back he will have to do just that and maybe a little more.
Eliza Knight starts a new series out fabulously with this great page turner. Lorne is the perfect war hero who has gone through a living nightmare and Jamie is the perfect heroine who has had to fight her whole life just to move an inch and prove that she's just as capable a business person as any man can be. I really enjoyed watching the love bloom between these two great characters. This was the perfect getaway book and I truly enjoyed reading it. Ms. Knight I just can't wait to read the next book when it comes out.
Excellent Series Opener-Sexy Highlanders & the lasses who tame them
The year is 1816 and the Duke of Sutherland, Lorne Gordon, has just returned from the dead. He finds his beloved castle, the home of his family for generations, sold. Yes, the Duke seems to be having some bad luck, or is it more than bad luck? Either way he means to reclaim his castle and move forward with his life. Imagine the surprise when he confronts the new owner to see none other than his former betrothed’s younger sister, Miss Jaime Andrewson. Jaime is all grown up now and the last person she ever wanted to see was the Duke of Sutherland-the rakehell ruined her sister and left her with child. Then the rogue went and got himself killed in the military…so how is he alive and looking just as delicious as she remembers?
It’s obvious these two have a lot to work through and likely more struggles ahead, author Eliza Knight enjoys making her characters work for their HEA. Loved the chemistry between Lorne & Jaime. Also this is the first book I have read with a MC who shares my name WITH the same spelling!! 😉
I enjoyed this story. The writing style was smooth and the characters were brought to life with apt details. I am eagerly awaiting the next book of the series!!
Brilliant and epic Scottish adventure from Eliza Knight.
I loved this story, so emotional in places. Lorne and Jaime were so good together, such a perfect match, their relationship was perfect. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
I can’t wait for more from Eliza, her books are some of my favourites.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Look, there was nothing particularly wrong with the story. The narrator was doing an excellent job of switching between the English accented narration to the Scottish brogue of the conversations.
I'm just not in the mood for long and dragged misunderstanding/withholding of true events. Especially not in a story where the hero's just come back from two years of being held prisoner and tortured, with only his dreams of going home keeping him sane. He practically crawls back to his castle only to be told it's been sold.
I don't know anything about Scottish law, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say there's a chance he wouldn't have to beg the heroine to give him back his holding given he's still the duke and his brother never had the right to sell it in the first place... He's a freaking war hero. I bet many would rally to him anyway.
But I digress, spoiler ahead so unblur at your own peril
This was a surprise! I picked it up when I realized that the book I planned on reading was no longer available in audible. The H did not hesitate for that long before he understood who had to be his bride. The h needed more time. The leap between "i want you" to "i love you" was to short in my opinion. I could understand the plot quite early in the book but that didn't encourage me. I really enjoy a good highlander novel but the Hero was more of a english gentleman than a highlander IMO. Rating 3,5 rounded up to 4
This is immensely entertaining and absolutely unputdownable! Lorne and Jaime are made for each other and watching them each realize that they've fallen for the other is delightfully delicious! Eliza Knight is a must read author who delivers heart, intrigue and stream in this series starter. Who wouldn't fall for a Scottish duke who's been held captive for years and thought to have died!? That right there had me hooked from the very beginning. Add in the Regency age and the social norms and I was one very happy reader.
Jaime is headstrong and she's the first to admit it. She's been let down by those closest to her and has had to navigate her whole existence relying upon herself and her sound judgement. She's a shipping magnate who makes her way in a man's world. She's had her inheritance handed to her, but it's been up to her to gain her own successes. She isn't opened minded about the past until the alluring duke comes calling.
I throughly enjoyed learning their story and meeting their family and friends. Everyone was beautifully fleshed out and did their job aptly of supporting the main characters. But let's be honest... it's Mungo who stole the book. Not really but he's clearly a favorite for me.
If you love romance with a bit of mystery and a beautiful background setting, one click this beautiful book and pre-order this today! You're going to discover one diverting Regency romp! I've just added a new to me author who I'm adding to my favorites list!
What I liked the most about this adversaries to in love romantic tale was walking alongside the strong, confident, sassy, business smart heroine and the beaten but not broken, patient, good guy hero, as they both try to set things right. From their first nose to nose then ultimately heart to heart encounters, I just felt they fit perfectly together. Who would have thought the darkness of treacherous lies, secrets, and betrayal could bring into light such a long awaited, heart melting romance between two verra determined, stubborn lovebirds. It was also refreshing to see a hero be the first to come to his senses and realize what fate and destiny had now just gifted him.
I honestly don’t want to say a whole lot more in fear of giving anything away. Just know, my fellow historical Scottish romance book loving friends, I really enjoyed this romantic tale and look forward to future books in the series.

I have done my fair share of reading- including historical romances and here I am, gaping, wondering how am I ever going to go back to those roughish rakes, when Lorne’s gentleman manners are bound to haunt me forever.
Jaime was a handful (in a delightful way, if anything I want to be more like her) but from Lorne’s perspective it must have been vexing and yet he found in himself to admire her strength (mighty of him… I would have fought her lol But go Jamie!). He was sweet and teasing, I adored that they did not loose their banter after they got together.
I did want to fight both of their siblings in this one. Those little despicable urchins.
A lovely read.
Watch me now read everything Eliza Knight ever wrote…
He was finally coming home, after having been kept a prisoner in the Peninsular War and suffered mentally and physically. He thought never to see home again, but when he made it, nothing was as he had left it. Having gotten the word he was dead, his half brother had sold it outright to....
What he found was a lass had bought his castle and upon confronting her, it seemed her reason was revenge. Against something he had been accused of, but had not done,
She had thought him dead, but even in his death, she had gotten her revenge for what he had done to her sister. What she did not expect was he determination to get his property back nor his dominating presence.
As usual Eliza Knight creates a story that holds all of the elements to create an outstanding story! The wounded hero, wrongly accused, the strong, yet vulnerable heroine trying to protect her family and in the end her heart. Such an amazing start to a new series!!
After spending two years as a prisoner of war and being presumed dead, Lorne Gordon, the Duke of Sutherland and Chief of Clan Sutherland is back in Scotland and eager to get home to Dunrobin Castle. But his joy is cut short when he learns that his brother sold his castle and has disappeared with the money. Eager for a resolution Lorne travels to Edinburgh to confront the buyer and have the sale nullified. He is shocked to learn that the mysterious buyer is none other than his former fiancée’s sister and that she has no intention of returning this castle to him!
Jaime Andrewson, the daughter of the late Viscount Whittleburn and sister to Shanna, the duke’s former and now disgraced fiancée. Years ago Lorne refused to marry her pregnant sister and left her to face society’s scorn with no remorse. Shanna was sent away and disowned, leaving Jaime as the sole heir to her family’s shipping empire. Jaime expanded the shipping business and is now a very rich woman, so rich that she has the money to enact her revenge against the man that ruined her sister. And what better revenge than to purchase his beloved home and give it to her sister and nephew, the very people he spurned!
But when Jaime and Lorne meet again, sparks will fly and they will soon discover that things don’t add up and they both realize that they may have been duped and will need to work together to learn the truth and set things right. Jaime tries hard to fight the attraction that she has for the man that she believes she should hate. But the heart wants what the heart wants and Lorne has decided that his wants Jaime, so now he will have to prove he is not the rogue she believes and win her not only her trust but also her love.
This was a well-written book that was much more light-hearted than I was expecting. The book has a bit of everything: secrets, lies, witty banter, likable characters, steamyish love scenes, shocking revelations, a dash of forbidden love, and a HEA complete with an epilogue. I did feel like the ending was a bit rushed with the villains getting off too easily and that Lorne’s time as a POW was glossed over, but overall this was a very enjoyable read and I would happily recommend it to anyone.

I Loved It! Return of the Scot is one of those books you just can't put down. Eliza Knight has filled it with great cast of characters that come off the pages and pull you into this emotional ride that keeps you involved until the very end, tension building twists and turns, witty banter, with deception, greed, passion and a plot full of suspense and mystery that leaves you eagerly wanting more.
I always love these books. Writing my own similar story, I often wonder if the use of “Ye” so much is correct. I did get a little confused since a read or listen to these out of order sometimes, where I’d heard the story of Sutherland and Dun Robin before because I knew I had. But it was clear that this story takes place in a more recent time period, maybe the early 1700s.
Lorne, Duke of Sutherland, returns after war to find his half brother sold his castle and lands under the impression he was killed in war. If that wasn't enough, it was purchased by his ex-fiances sister, Jaime. Jaime has lived so many years focusing on revenge, on retribution, on vengeance for her sister. So when an opportunity comes to buy his land she cannot decline. He may be dead but she finds this as a win, until he isn't dead. . Revenge, family ties of love and jealousy, and betrayal are themes in this read. It is an enemies to lovers with a strong independent heroine with a career and a Duke who is progressive and kind. Definitely had some twists I was not expecting!! . Enemies to lovers is my jam so this was right up my alley. Also had some steam in last third 👀 and I am ALWAYS here for a bit of steam. Excited to check out The rest of the series as it's released
Lorne Gordon, Duke of Sutherland and Colonel of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, finally returns home after being in prison in France for two long tortured years! He was happy at least they didn’t remove any of his limbs and he was alive, but he had not gotten off without many scars from their brutality both mentally and physically. So he comes home scaring the daylights out of his clan all thinking they are seeing a ghost! As he finds out his jealous wastrel half brother Gilles, who he had hoped would have matured and grown up by now! Obviously he hadn’t and had been jealous of Lorne and probably still gambling and he would not be surprised if he sold their castle and lands for both some kind of jealous revenge and to also pay off his gambling debts and bad choices! Yet he is putting his clan out on the street and has ran off with his fortune and has totally disappeared!
As if that is not bad enough Lorne finds out the buyer J.Andrewson is not a man, but the sister Jaime of his former betrothed, Shanna Andrewson. A woman who betrayed him with another man and got pregnant and a,jtold everyone it was his bairn. An enormous lie as he never even kissed the lass, as this was only an arranged union and how the Andrewson family must despise him thinking he just left her with a bairn in her belly. Something he would never do, but he wouldn’t marry a cheater with another mans child! As he just wanted out of his relationship with this lying woman as he knew the entire Andrewson family hated him believing Shanna’s enormous lie that he is her son’s father. He being a gentleman never corrected the lie Shanna told everyone that he left her with a bairn in belly! So he was understanding why Jaime didn’t want to give up his castle and lands, even though she claims it was for her shipping business, but he knew it was just for a game of revenge!
Now Jaime Andrewson was not interested in any man to marry, even though she is very beautiful. The only people she cares for is her sister Shanna and young nephew Geordie. She believes the deception her sister told her and bought the Dunrobin castle and Sutherland lands thinking a little revenge from the grave. So she at first think this is a joke believing Lorne Gordon is dead, but is shocked to find him living and breathing under her roof. She is also disgusted with herself as she didn’t remember this man being so swoon worthy gorgeous! She can’t be attracted to her sister’s betrayer as it is so wrong on so many levels! Yet the more time she spends with him the more of a chance to start another scandal, but she also realizes she is not remembering things correctly from all those years ago.
Eliza Knight starts with another stupendous new series that is witty, heartwarming and endearing filled with loads of conflicts and surprises. It is in Knight’s usual unique style with her usual gift of keeping the readers entertained with her rich gift of delightful storytelling adventures. As Lorne and Jamie’s story wraps itself around you, holds on and never let’s go! I can’t wait for next book in this captivating series. Bravo as this book is another absolute winner in my opinion. Definitely a book not to be missed.

Eliza Knight’s “Return of the Scot” (Scots of Honor Book 1) is a fantastic way to start a new series!
Lorne Gordon, Duke of Sutherland has returned from war, thought dead by his family and clan. His greedy half-brother has assumed his title, sold his family seat and disappeared with the fortune. He must immediately secure his title and regain his estate. Haven’t gotten his title back getting his estate returned to him seems less likely if not impossible when Lorne discovers the buyer is none other than his ex-betrothed’s sister.
Jaime Andrewson’s heart is filled with vengeance towards the entire Sutherland family. She blames him for causing her sister’s fall from grace, which of course he didn’t and seeing he wants his home back she’s happy to use it to torment him. As if the poor man hasn’t had enough suffering. He was held as a prisoner in the Peninsular War and suffered mentally and physically. What Eliza Knight’s Return of the Scot (Scots of Honor Book 1)

What amazing characters! Lorne was such a perfect hero, a good man, honorable, a gentleman and a swoon worthy hero who survived the ravages of war and being prisoner, seeking peace and calm in his life. Jaime is a young woman who’s given up on marriage and thrown herself into her father’s business trying to prove her business acumen. She’s not only beautiful but intelligent, strong and sassy with a head for businesses.
Family secrets and a bit of a mystery drive this fantastic story. The characters are charming and intriguing. From the start you want this couple this couple together and it was so delightful watching them find their way and navigate the family dynamics that stood in their way.
The dialogue is smart and sassy (I loved the banter) and the imagery is just amazing, allowing you to envision the story as it plays out. I enjoyed watching these two navigate their relationship from hatred to falling in love. The author brings the characters and this wonderful, compelling heartwarming story to life beautifully! I find this to be true of all her books I’ve read and enjoyed so far. I can always rely on her stories to stir my heart.
Thank you so much Ms. Knight for this beautifully written love story!
Lorne Gordon Duke of Sutherland and Chief of the Sutherlands exhausted from traveling finally makes it home to Scotland. Everything is truly a mess when he gets home! Everyone thought Lorne has died, his brother is missing but most of all his home and castle is taken over by a beautiful spinster businesswoman, Jaime Andrewson. Lorne is determined to get his castle back at all costs. So, Lorne decides to join forces with Jaime offering her marriage in name only. Lorne knows this is the best solution attempting to woo her without getting his heart involved. As Jaime gets to know Lorne, she can’t help but fall for him too. Unfortunately, there is a secret concerning Lorne’s brother and Jamie’s sister that could destroy everything that she has worked so hard for. Still, love could get in the way not only complicating things but muddling up the best laid plans too. This is truly a superbly written Scottish historical romance! The book moves from place to place effortlessly despite how weary the hero gets. All locations are even fairly easy to see and imagine too. Ms. Eliza Knight really tells such a great story filled with tragedy, drama, deception and love. Lorne the tired handsome hero is just a great guy! It would have been nice to read a little of what happened to him and some history of his time in the war and the relationship with his estranged brother. At times it feels like you are dropped in the story despite being a pretty easy read. Jaime the independent feisty heroine is also a fantastic character! She never really gets too annoying even with her high handedness. She still is someone that would be fun to hang out with and would keep things interesting though. So, it will be good that there are going to be more stories of Lorne and Jaime’s friends definitely something to look forward to as well.
Eliza is the one who made me fall deeply in love with Scotland. I simply adore the Sutherlands. We are back in the family, several hundred years later. Lorne has come back from the dead to find his whole world has been stolen from him in a most unpleasant way. He will meet Jaime, who now owns some of it, and who nurtures a deep hatred for him because of something that happened a decade ago.
Lorne is like his predecessor: stalwart, honor bound, ans a gentleman through and through. He reminds me of his great-great-great… grand-father Magnus, who was a force of nature with a passionate tender heart. I really enjoyed to get to know Lorne and follow him while he’s working hard to get back what is rightfully his.
As every Surherland’s prospective bride, Jaime is independent, strong willed and stubborn as can be. She has been manipulated and lied to by her own sister, protecting and spoiling her while being the laughingstock of it all. Being under her sister’s scheming, she harbors a deep hatred for Lorne, holding him responsible for the demise of her sister and, ultimately, of her family. She’s in for a big, unpleasant surprise. But love and truth always manage to find their way, and Lorne’s story with Jaime is a definitely bumpy one! I wish the retaliation against the bad guys was harsher: they got away much too easily to my taste. The sidekicks are adorable and very entertaining: they really do add to the pleasantness of the whole tale!
As always Eliza Knight delivers a fantastic and moving tale that surprises and delight on every page.
Lorne Gordon, Duke of Sutherland and Chief of the Sutherlands, presumed dead return home after being imprisoned for two years before his escape. Gille Gordon, Lorne's brother (half) that he cherished and looked after until he denied paying any further gaming debts. Now wanted his revenge. But how to achieve that?
Shanna Andrewson spurned ex-fiancee, a spoiled, ungrateful person. Her sister, Jaime, always took her side and would believe anything she told her. Daughters to Viscount Whittleburn, Jaime inherited the family shipping business and two properties one in Edinburgh and one in Ireland. Jaime supported Shanna more openly after the death of their parents.

With the highlands, Edinburgh, and the docks as the backdrop for intrigue, mystery, and adventure. Find family, friends, and companions along the way to join the fun.
Lorne Gordon imprisoned for the last two years finally comes home only to find out it has been sold by his half brother. Determined to get his castle back after his return from the dead Lorne is surprised to find out that the new owner is the sister of the woman he was to marry years ago.
Jamie Andrewson has her revenge she purchased the castle that will be her nephews legacy, that is until the Duke of Sutherland comes back from the dead. Jamie’s is determined to keep the castle and make Lorne’s life miserable a just payment for impregnating her sister then abandoning her, but all is not as it seems and Jamie and Lorne will have to join forces to find out the truth!
This was such a wonderful story to read. I loved that Jamie is such a strong woman and not afraid to let it be known! Being a woman in this mans world is not easy but Lorne has an admiration for her. Lorne has some scars that need to heal and Jamie can help him. This is a story that you definitely don’t want to miss reading! So well written!
Ceritanya bagus banget dan bikin nyandu gak bisa berhenti baca. A page turner!
Enemy to lover, dengan chemistry jinak-jinak merpati. Bikin gregetan. Cuma agak kesel aja sama klimaksnya, dimana antagonis di novel ini kayanya kurang dapat pembalasan yang setimpal atas apa yang mereka perbuat.

Lorne Gordon, Duke of Sutherland has returned home after being imprisoned and tortured for 2 years. The last thing he expected to find was his castle sold out from under him and his family heirlooms missing. In an effort to regain his ancestral home, Lorne heads to Edinburgh to find the person that purchased his home. What he didn't expect was to find the sister of his former fiancee had bought it and refuses to give it up. Jaime Andrewson has spent years hating the Duke of Sutherland for ruining her sister and tossing her aside. She has gone to a lot of trouble to exact her revenge on the man and she isn't willing to give him any opportunity to get his way this time. Unfortunately, she never expected to fall in love with him. Great story.
Loved the hero, Lorne. He was a Laird and a Duke. He went to war, ended up imprisoned and tortured for 2 years then came home only to find his home sold by his brother as they thought him dead. Jaime was an unusual woman. She ran a shipping business, something women of her time did not do. Her father gave it to her when he died. Another unique fact. She made it into a thriving business. Jaime hated Lorne. He had ruined her sister and she wanted revenge. It was fun to read of their interactions back and forth. Lorne and Jaime were people of character and integrity. They had great friends. As Lorne tries to get his Castle back, they both find they like each other. They also learn a lot about their families. Great book.
At first, I thought this was just another romance, but the two main characters are strong, independent and both deeply hurt by their past. As the story evolves, the depth of their relationship seems odd, but slowly their walls crumble and the truth emerges. I liked the little, sometimes tiny hints the author gives to tease an aspect of the story. For example, the body on the battlefield was covered by his uniform jacket, not cut off to tend wounds, nor missing, but draped over the poor man's chest. I won't spoil by saying why it is significant, but will say a fellow reader didn't even notice the hint. There are many tidbits to tease the reader, making this author one of my favourites. This was an ARC I voluntarily read and review.
After years in the hands of the enemy, Lorne Gordon, the Duke of Sutherland wants nothing more than to get home. He was believed dead, so it's understandable that things will be different when he gets there. The shocks will keep coming almost all the way through the book.
Jamie Andrewson is a very successful business woman, with vengeance in mind. She has had years to achieve what she has now, there's no reason to change her mind.
This is a very amusing story that plays a lot with family dynamics. Our hero just wants peace and quiet. That is so not happening.
Lorne returns to his home from war and imprisonment after 8 years, only to find that his castle has been sold by his half-brother. The buyer is non-other than the sister of the woman that betrayed him. The betrayal resulted in his breaking of the engagement, a pregnancy, and the disownment of Shanna. Jamie has believed that Lorne took liberties with her sister, left her pregnant, and went off to war. Her revenge? buy his inheritance and give it to her nephew, whom she believes is the rightful heir. Too bad that Shanna has disappeared with her son, Lorne's half-brother with the money, and has left the two enemies together to figure out what is really happening.
I really adored Eliza Knight's "Prince Charlie's Angels" series, so I was fully expecting to love this one, too. I didn't, though, because this book felt more like a rough first draft to me than a finished product. Both of the main characters were a little too cardboard for my tastes, and I didn't identify or grow to like either of them. The "villains" in the story were so obvious that it was amazing that the two mains couldn't figure it out much sooner. I just never felt myself getting immersed in the story, so I was happy to finish it and move onto another book. I'm hoping that this is a one off for the author.
I enjoyed the characters and the friction between them that could only end in love. Lorne and Jamie. Jamie is the owner of a shipping company and Lorne is a Duke who return s home after being a prisoner of war. He finds out that his half brother has sold his family castle and lands to Jamie. She made the purchase as revenge for Lorne breaking the engagement with her sister and leaving her pregnant. It was a lie. Soon they find out that Jamie’s sister and Lorne’s brother have plotted to all along to punish them over jealously and revenge. Interesting story worth reading.
