First of all, let’s take a moment to appreciate that cover. Okay, now I want to talk about the concept of a concept novel - because it really seems to have given the creators room to play, which is super important when creating a story like this. Overall, I prefer the emotional tone of the anime, plus a lot of little details (mostly about Vivy herself and her situation) - BUT I really liked seeing more of Estella and Aikawa here, especially Estella. I’m very curious to see how later events from the anime will be portrayed with these different starting points.
I loved reading this book as much as I loved watching the anime. It's not a novelization of the anime, so there are differences even if the broad strokes are the same. As a novel, this expands more on Vivy's perspective and details of her world than the anime could, but it never comes off like an info dump.
It's nothing but shameful that Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song lost anime of the year to something as mid as Jujutsu Kaisen. Vivy had that award stolen from her. It's also shameful that Vivy lost 10 out of the 15 nominations she received. In my opinion, Vivy is one of the most underrated slept on animes I've ever seen. Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song instantly became my favorite anime. Now that I got my rant out of the way, heres what I have to say about the book.
It differs quite a bit from the anime but still follows the same general storyline. However, it goes much more in depth than the anime ever could. The emotional connection between the reader and Vivy is special, to say the least. The character development and world building is spectacular. The novel is an instant classic, in my opinion. So far, Vivy Prototype is going to be my favorite book series I've ever read. I will highly recommend reading the book.
Amazing read. If you're coming from the anime, there is enough new and changed material for it to feel very fresh. And if you're new to Vivy, this book is definitely worth a read if you like sci-fi.
i was real excited for this book, i was even recommended it. unfortunately i didn’t enjoy the characters, vivy felt very one dimensional to me. every character i was interested in also died so theres that. pretty art. i feel like this is also not the authors fault, and instead due to the fact there were two of them and they were hired to co write this book in a very interesting way.
