USA Today bestselling author Laurel Greer loves writing about all the ways love can change people for the better, especially when messy families and charming small towns are involved. She lives outside of Vancouver, BC with her law-talking husband and two daughters and is never far from a cup of tea, a good book, or the ocean—preferably all three.
4.5 stars — Well that was a delightfully cute and sexy Christmas read. We got a bit of an enemies to lovers feel, but the kind that I like where they just push and pull against each other, but part of it stems from their attraction, and the fighting doesn’t last. You know, enemies light.
Rounded down instead of up simply because it was a bit hard watching how long it took Emma to figure out compromise, and then how long it took her to understand he was compromising back.
Luke was a much more vulnerable character than I was expecting, and I kind of adored that. Especially since it didn’t take away from his ruggedness at all, it just showed how men can be just as multifaceted. Something that’s sometimes missing from Harlequins. I ached for all the wrong lessons he learned in his life, and the conclusion that he came to that he would only let people down. And I loved the way he saw the differences in his relationship with Emma, and kept wanting to fight for it despite those lessons. I also appreciated that he wasn’t overly embarrassed by his dyslexia, and would seek out help when he needed it.
Emma had her own damage to contend with, and I appreciated that while it wasn’t dramatic, it had just as big an impact. Sometimes the smallest things in our interactions with our loved ones can have the greatest impact, and usually completely unintentionally. I grew frustrated with her at times with how one track her mind could be. But I also loved how genuinely she cared about the people around her, and how earnestly she wanted to help and contribute…and just be *seen*.
I was totally expecting the same old fight over the attraction that happens in so many romance novels, but I feel like theirs kept the balance just right — fighting because of different wants, but not fighting it so much that I grew frustrated with them. Instead we got to see them go through the different stages, and kind of grow together. And I appreciated that their steamy times were very healthy.
On that note: this author always knows how to push the envelope of convention in the BEST WAYS. I feel like romance authors follow the same thoughts all the time, and might not understand the harm. There was a moment in the steamy scene where Luke said he wanted to see “how wet she was”, and she admitted that her body doesn’t work that way, and they got out the lube, and there was no shame, and it all proceeded in a healthy way, and I legitimately wanted to stand up and applaud. Because fuck yeah, women are different, and that’s totally cool!
Lots of great secondary characters in the cast of the town. I loved seeing what were clearly previous stories (which I now must check out), and the groundwork for future stories that I must now wait for.
Wow. Apparently I had a lot to say. That’s unusual, especially for a Harlequin. What can I say, it delighted me.
📚 Hello Book Friends! TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS by Laurel Greer is another fantabulous Christmas romance book. I loved the heated moments between Luke and Emma. The author set up their love story perfectly from the crush they had in high school, right to the magnetism in their adulthood. It was beautiful to see the attraction turned into love. Although this is the 7th book in the Sutter Creek, Montana Series; it can easily be read as a stand-alone.
Emma Halloran has always felt unseen as the middle child in the family. Luke Emerson has his own painful history to deal with. Each of them has definite but opposing ideas of what should happen to the wilderness lodge that has been important to both families. During the annual Twelve Days of Christmas festival, maybe a holiday miracle will happen.
This contemporary holiday romance is part of the Sutter Creek books, but it also starts off a trilogy that centers around the Moosehorn Wilderness Lodge.
I'm still in my bah, humbug slump, so I wasn't sure whether I was ready to read this story, but I was drawn in by both the pageantry of the celebrations, the description of weather that I (fortunately) only encounter through someone else's eyes, and the revelation of the reasons for each main character's stance.
I enjoyed returning to Sutter Creek and getting glimpses of the characters who have been featured in other stories in this series. It always seems to take me a while to warm up to the main characters in this series, but I did come to appreciate their dreams and understand their pain, even as I giggled at the kids’ contributions and savored some of the heartwarming moments. So, yes, I recommend this as a lovely holiday story, and maybe…I’ll start humming a few Christmas carols.
Engaging, warm, and set in a beautiful place, TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS by Laurel Greer is a lovely holiday romance and is sure to get you into a festive mood.
Emma Halloran has always faded into the background of her family and wants to prove to herself and her family that she has what it takes to follow her passion, and for her, that's creating a stunning eco-lodge that would become the ultimate wedding destination. There's only one problem - getting the Emerson's to sell the lodge. Luke Emerson has his own plans for his family's business and while this may not be his dream job, he isn't going to stand by and watch it leave the family. But as Emma and Luke butt heads, will romance start to blossom in the most unlikely of places?
Endearing characters, a stunning lodge, and plenty of mishaps and drama along the way make TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS by Laurel Greer an enjoyable read with a classic Christmas romance feel. Emma is determined and intelligent, while Luke is loyal and hardworking, and it was lovely to watch them recognise the connection that lies between them.
Twelve Dates of Christmas by Laurel Greer Sutter Creek, Montana #7
Luke and Emma have known one another for years. They lived in a small town, they went to school together, they knew a lot about one another but never were really friends as they were so different one from the other.
When this story begins, they are again at loggerheads because Emma wants to buy Luke’s grandfather’s business and her vision for the lodge is opposite of Luke’s. With a big Winter festival to get through, grandfather getting over pneumonia, and Luke busy with his fulltime job, Emma offers to help out.
The story deals with the two getting to know one another as adults, leaving behind some preconceived notions formed in the past, and coming to terms with what would truly be best for the lodge and for the two of them as individuals.
The ideas for 12 days/dates of Christmas activities were interesting and provided opportunity for the two to spend time together and see one another in both a positive and not so positive light. In the end, both Emma and Luke grew as people as they grew together. The plot was fairly simple, straightforward, without a huge break-up event, and had a nice holiday feel. It is not my favorite romance but it is a solid little story and will please many.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQN – Special Edition for the ARC – This is my honest review.
A heartwarming romance filled with gorgeous Christmas ambiance from start to finish! With the next book in her Sutter Creek, Montana series Laurel Greer delights her readers with a holiday like no other. Emma and Luke were quick to hook me and their story was both sweet and sassy and warmly filled with all the feels.
Emma is a complex character who while venturing out into an exciting possibility on the work front is also still feeling unseen in her large family of success and drama driven siblings.
Luke is an all around good guy who has had his dreams stomped on a few times in life, but who has a heart of gold and doesn't mind showing it when it comes to those he loves and the gorgeous nature around him.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a small town romance filled with addictive characters, rich back story of the town and a feel good happily ever after every time.
Emma Halloran has a vision and she wants to bring it to life. This involves a lodge that might be sold by Luke Emerson as he works hard to protect his grandfather's legacy. They are at loggerheads. More than that, they are drawn to one another. Of course they are. This is a romance. But I loved it! I love the ideas that Emma had and I loved Luke's reasons for wanting to sell.
Emma and Luke knew one another in high school. Having gone in different directions in life, they are now back together, but not in a way that seems like it might lead to happiness. However, despite their differences, the crush they had in high school starts to grow. In fact, it begins to spiral out of control. Which of them will give in during this Christmas season?
The setting was wonderful and this was a warm and entertaining read. I had not read previous books in this series or anything by Laurel Greer but I was completely drawn to this story and hope that I can continue with further books in this series.
Many thanks to Harlequin Special Edition and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Laurel Greer’s The Twelve Dates of Christmas is the first in her Moosehorn Wilderness Lodge spinoff from her Sutter Creek series. Emma Halloran’s dream is to buy Emerson Lodge and remake the wilderness lodge into a premier wedding destination, making use of the romance and beauty of the setting her own grandmother originally helped build. Luke Emerson, grandson of the current owner, feels strongly about making sure the environmental measures and green improvements his family have made stay at the forefront of the lodge’s focus and plans.
Over the course of the lodge’s twelve days of themed Christmas activities, Luke and Emma have the chance to work together, recognize the simmering attraction sparking between them, and discover what is truly important to each of them.
Laurel Greer’s writing is emotional and immersive. Luke and Emma feel very real, and their thoughts and hopes and fears are all too relatable. I appreciate Ms Greer’s inclusiveness to physical experiences less mentioned and the sensitivity and matter-of-factness she displays.
The Twelve Dates of Christmas is a terrific read, and I look forward to more from Ms Greer!
Buckle up readers - it's going to be a festive ride.
This is my favourite Laurel Greer creation so far. Luke and Emma are great likeable characters who crackle with chemistry, Their motivations make sense and create a truly understandable conflict that feels authentic. At no point was like I like 'these idiots could easily get together if they'd just text each other'. They had to do some soul searching and examining of self. And, it's good they did. Because when they do they find they have the capacity for growth and change. And, a love worth growing for. Even their families are drawn with a deft hand and feel realistic and 3D. Most of all Greer weaves a holiday romance that, like the character Emma would agree, really makes the most of the romantic potential of Christmas. The setting is beautiful and romantic as well as festive. The sexy times were hot but also realistic -I love how Greer highlighted safety and a nod to the fact that some women need lube! I am a slow reader but I plowed through this book. I really hope someone out there sees that it would make a great Hallmark Christmas movie. For reals - it screams for it. Overall a delightful read.
Christmas in Sutter Creek I’m a huge Laurel Greer fan and I feel badly this review is so late. But heartfelt, I promise, as I really enjoyed the book. I love stories where the happy ending is occasionally in question. I mean, this is a Laurel Greer romance, so I knew Emma and Luke would wind up together, but I did have my moments of doubt.
Emma and Luke have competing visions of Luke’s family lodge. Luke has emotional attachments to the place and is dedicated to keeping it just the way it is, even as his dad is ready to pass the place to new management. Emma has always seen the lodge as the perfect destination wedding location. So, with those competing visions, how can compromise be possible.
Top off the Twelve Days of Christmas festival, and this book is all about wintery fun. I could feel the snow under me as I went snowshoeing. Or the ice beneath my feet as I twirled across the smooth surface. Or walking amongst the decorated Christmas trees.
I loved this love story. It warmed my heart on a cold winter day. I got my happy ending and plan to visit Sutter Creek again.
This is a riveting, engrossing, sweet and highly entertaining Christmas romance set in a small town. I rooted for the characters as I loved Luke and Emma. Emma seemed a bit "Miss Perfection" when I first met her but she grew on me and I loved her character arc. I loved Luke since the first pages: there's plenty to love in this man as he seems caring,a bit clumsy, and read to confess his love to Emma even if he thinks he dislike her. It's an enemy-to-lover romance and the evolution of the relationship is well written and realistic. The small town setting, the characters are well developed and the plot never drags. I appreciated that it didn't seem another Hallmark movie like novel as there's some more realism even if it remains a lovely Christmas novel. Highly recommended. Many thanks to Harlequin Special Edition and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
If you're looking for a Christmas romance to get you in the holiday mood, this one definitely fits the bill. I loved the hate to love relationship, from their banter to their actual relationship and how they worked together. They both had their own goals, but it was great to see them come together.
I also really loved the setting and fell in love with the location created. I definitely see myself going back and reading the rest of the series. Thankfully this one can be read as a stand-alone without having read the other books.
Overall it was a super cute romance that was well paced and easy to devour in a single setting. It also is perfect to put you in the holiday mood!
Emma wants to buy back the resort her grandparents launched and then sold to a neighboring family so she can turn it into a glam place for fancy weddings; Luke wants to keep it in his family to continue the necessary conservation efforts to keep the river and woods safe and healthy. Romance ensues. I had very little sympathy or support for Emma, honestly--fancy weddings aren't as important as conservation issues! Obviously they figured out the obvious compromise. This was more enemies to lovers than I usually enjoy, but I did enjoy their blossoming friendship and romantic feelings. And I also love how Luke supports her career aspirations until the very last page, with a great plan for the future.
First, total Hallmark Christmas movie! Emma Halloran jumps in to help at Emerson WIlderness Lodge when the owner, Hank, falls ill, and leaves his grandson, Luke, to run the annual Twelve Days of Christmas festival. However, Emma has more than helping on her agenda. Her grandparents used to own the lodge, and she wants to buy it, and turn it back to a wedding destination. However, Hank and Luke want ot keep it as a wilderness lodge, offering fishing, hunting, and wilderness adventures, while promoting conservation of the environment. Plus, Emma and Luke were, probably frenemies in high school. And both have some baggage, that each teases the other about.
Good story in the series, and the start of a trilogy at the Lodge. Like I said, total Hallmark Christmas movie.
What a fun, sweet story. I really liked the banter between Luke and Emma, especially as they had to work together for his grandfather, Hank. Hank owns the Emerson Wilderness Lodge but he has pneumonia so his grandson has had to take over the Christmas activities. Hank has also had an offer from Emma to buy the Lodge her grandmother had worked at. I really enjoyed how the banter turned to something more and I could not wait to find out how the story ended. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I really enjoyed Twelve Dates of Christmas. I'm a sucker for a small-town romance anyway, so it wasn't hard to fall into this one and stay there. The story is full of feels, and it also has plenty of witty banter, which is a winner for me. I think the thing I liked best was that it was a Christmas romance with a fantastic couple and a wilderness lodge, but it's not completely cheesy. Laurel Greer makes these characters feel authentic, and their story is a great combination of romantic and fun.
Loved this Christmas romance! I want to visit the charming Emerson Wilderness lodge. From the annual tree decorating contest to the tension between Luke and Emma, the conflict drew me in right away, as Emma hopes to buy the lodge from Luke's family. Such a fun read, it gave a kick start to my holiday season.
My first venture into Sutter Creek and I was hooked. Loved watching the family dynamics unfold and the slow burn of the romance that was years in the making. Two souls trying o out run their past and they do not even realize how right they are for each other. It's a good thing others see that they are a perfect match for each other.
Very cute, I really enjoyed the play between the characters here even if it frustrated at me at first. Once more was revealed about the history of the two it made much more sense.
A wonderful continuation of the Sutter Creek, Montana series and the Twelve Dates of Christmas can easily be read as a stand alone. I've read some of the books in this series previously but have missed several of the books along the way. I hope to get a chance to read those soon.
The book easily put me in the holiday spirit with all things Christmas. Seeing the holidays through both Luke and Emma's eyes - even though they had different takes, memories and traditions of it - was magical and full of wonder. I love how the the song lyrics of the Twelve Days of Christmas parlays into the twelve Christmas activities at Luke's family's lodge. Emma has hopes of buying the lodge and putting her own wedding spin on it, but is it meant to be?
Emma and Luke have to work together to make the magical events happen and I loved how their attraction, romance and ultimately love, blossomed and flourished. There were quite a few steamy moments that enhanced the story. There were a lot of family and friends, townspeople, memories both good and bad, a variety of winter activities and events, and colorful and detailed descriptions that made me feel like I was there. There was a nice flow to the story with both hope and despair woven throughout. There is also angst, sadness, happiness, miscommunications, family squabbles and disagreements. There is wonderful closure with the epilogue and a happily ever after or two as well. I hope we are able to return to Sutter Creek over and over again since there still seem to be more stories to tell.
Ms. Greer is an author whose books I find are enjoyable reads. I can't wait to read more of her books in the future and have added some to my always growing TBR pile.
