I just wanted to keep the family farm going, till the land of my ancestors, and do right by my parents' memory.
And then the adventurers came. They said they were going to help, clear out the 'monsters' on my land, but instead, they slept in my bed, ate my food, and worst of all...
They broke my mother's prized pot.
Now, I'm going to take my farm back, protect what's mine, and there's only one way to do it.
I'm going to make my farm into the most dangerous dungeon in the land.
What the fuck did i just read? I found this book by accident. I searched up "Thay time I hot drunk and killed a deamon" on storytel. It was not there, but this was. It was so bad it turned good. Like it is hilarious how stupid this was. I thought this would be a silly little read. Dungeons and lattes vibes. High fantasy low stakes, right? Wrong. The first 45% ish was pretty fun. This guy did stuff with his friends, he was humble and lucky. Then the first woman was presented. And suddenly, I could see VERY clearly how the author compensate for his... shortcomings. The way he describe women is so weird. They are like so attracted to this man for no reason. And that is really all. Everything they do is talk about how this man is so strong and great at sex and such.
I don't understand how a book like this is on audiobook. No one has read it. And thank God for that.
I don't remember that much of the book, but I had a great time.
DNF at 45%. Weird read. And I read weird shit. I did not realize S.A. Archer is a pseudonym for Simon Archer, and this author being male really did not do the female troll justice. Good job dude, making the females in your book big dumb sex idiots. I should have known better when most of the reviews were from men. That’s the last time I don’t do my research on an author, and if that author is a male who doesn’t know how to write females. It wasn’t even THAT funny, as stated in the reviews. There’s no real world building or character personality building. The whole time I’m thinking what the hell am I reading? Maybe it got better? Maybe it should have already been better at nearly halfway through? I was not willing to stick around for it.
Oh that was real bad. At first, I was enjoying the low stakes fantasy vibes. It was cosy and the easy read that I needed…. Then the first woman was introduced, and it became immensely obvious that the author was in fact a man. The book quickly went downhill, the portrayal of women as sex objects made me nauseous. Every woman we meet is obsessed with the MMC’s cock, and falls in love at first fuck. He slowly forms his own harem of dick drunk women, because apparently the only personality any woman has is their desperation to jump on pencil dicks. Trying to look past all this bullshit and focus on the rest of the book was near impossible. Ugh
Wasn't sure about the writing style to start with, but once you get into the book, it starts to get fun and hilarious as event piles on event to result in some unexpected companions, friends and even lovers. And the way some of the enemies are mocked during combat just made the icing on the cake that is this book.
Had a great laugh and looking forward to seeing if there will be more!
If you’re looking for a book that takes itself really seriously pass this on by. If you were looking for a well written lighthearted novel give us wanna read! I enjoyed listening to this book profusely, with comedy, likable characters, and just a smattering of fantasy troops, this hit all of my funny bones!
I liked how the author introduced the story, although "flashbacks" are not popular reads and somewhat tabboo, in this particular case, it gave it a "freshness" that is not common in other dungeon books. The "comedy" is through the use of exaggeration, stubbornness and irony, so, sometimes it is funny but other times the author tries too hard but fails.. The story is straightforward and shallow. I think this could have been a "better" fit for a Comic/Manga/Manhwa. The adult situations aren't forced. The adult situations aren't graphic. Some of the adult conversations are hardly credible but taken as part of the comedy of the story. There are no warnings about adult situations or profanity. Because minors and underage Young Adults (YA) are the target (because of the theme and animated cover of the book), there should be warnings on the cover and inside requiring being an adult to be able to read this book series. The first book covers only a short span of time, it feels a bit short in length. Without any mentions of popular pop culture, without any "mistakes" about comparing this "other fantasy world" with Earth, or obvious plot holes, because of the short length and shallow dialogues, action and plots, the author was able to tell a story and at the same time avoid most of the "litRPG" "fantasylit" "landmines" that are way too common for the books and authors of these "genres". Although the author describes the female beast-monster-folk curves and figures (to foster the harem-adult situations), the characters are barely physically described, especially the main character, Markus. Almost no personality descriptors or world (ambient) around the characters descriptors. Characters improve in abilities, equipment and skills, but if any of the readers would see them walking down the street, none would be able to guess that those people are these characters. Trolls, for example are green/brown, and yet, due to artistic discretion, the "troll-girl" (Tana) on the cover. Unless, the artist drew Zuthina (the Dragoness). But because the author does not explain the cover, it could be the pet of the month, the artist's neighbor or a demoness from another world.
It was funny, clever, and mostly well-paced. Markus’ a pretty interesting character. He can be a dick, but it’s pretty understandable: Everyone wants a piece of his farm. He’s not entirely heartless though as proven several times throughout the story. How he grows his farm is pretty well done. The fight scenes are cool. They’re well explained in terms of strategy and never lag on. We also get to see a more strategic side of our guy. He’s a decent fighter.
As for his wives, they’re entertaining to read about too. Particularly his first wife, Tana. She’s funny to read about; from her broken English, aggressiveness, to her flying kicks and horniness. Ayiana was an interesting addition too. More level-headed and quiet but friendly, which says a lot given all the hell she’s went through. Finally, there’s Zuthura. She’s described slightly different than on the cover. I thought she’d have red hair rather than platinum blonde. I wish there was more time to get to know her better, because she’s an interesting character too. Hopefully, the sequel will allow that.
My only gripes are that the romance is rushed. I get the circumstances, but I really wish we had more time to get used to these characters budding relationships. It felt like it was on fast forward. The sex scenes were good. I look forward to more of them in the future. Speaking of characters, George and Barry are fun to read about too. George was such an asshole, naturally, it made the slaps he received well-deserved from Barry.
Another gripe I have is the pacing. I feel like it lags on at times. Some of the relationships as previously mentioned aren’t fully developed. Harrison’s pretty much a throwaway shortly after he moves in. Hopefully, him and Pebbles will play a bigger role in the sequel.
Otherwise, this was a fun read. I laughed so many times due to the clever writing. Bottom line, I highly recommend it for someone looking for a good fantasy novel with a few sex scenes. If this’s you cup of tea, this’s for you.
A very chill read that doesn’t take a lot of brainpower to finish. The book makes everything seem as if King Marusk got to where he is from a series of accidents. Then it finishes with a hook that foreshadows what will happen in the next book as well as a general summary of what happened.
The romance seems as if it was low effort. He finds a pretty women and then they either have sex with him immediately or say they don’t want to followed by a change of heart.
I definitely enjoyed the entire story following the half brain dead dragon try to sneak into Markus’ territory, I had a lot of laughs from that. Lastly, the fights were intense with more back and forth than usual and they seemed more than just the MC overpowering some random evil dude. The villains that weren’t adventurers even had a reason for what they were doing.
I'm seventy percent sure going into this book, that "S.A Archer" is a penname for Simon Archer. I think this is maybe like DB King, where they are trying to snag unsuspecting people who don't want to read their smut. We will see.
"Oh? Why yes. Let me take sometime before the big battle to tell you my origin story." The start of this book is already off.
Well this book is definitely smutty (should have taken a clue fro the girl on the cover). The start was horrible but I did like the story after that, other than some bad dialogue and interactions between characters, the book was passable.
The protagonist is a total nut but not in a way that you hate his guts. He is just too stubborn to fail and keeps doing impossible things because he makes up his mind to do them and no one tells him that he can’t because it’s impossible. The dialogue is a bit rough and the text would have benefited from some proofreading. I finished the book because I wanted to find out how a farm boy ends up going to war against the Alliance of Adventurers and leading an army of Darkness. It was an interesting but predictable evolution. There were some interesting and original characters. Ok for light reading.
I want to say I love the entire story. I just have issues…
My biggest problem was pacing. It felt like things were speeding up really fast. I don’t mind two weeks or months later. However, when it’s a constant thing. It’s hard to get to know the characters when the story kelp skipping throughout the book. I really love the part where they was trying to make the potion for the monsters. I thought I was going to get a adventure with them growing flowers for ingredients, spoiler alert, the story time skips discoveries and world building.
It took a little bit to get going but, in some ways, that's part of it's charm. I felt the frame tale (prologue and epilogue) were too long and full of spoilers but maybe that's just me?
I ended up skipping the epilogue and might come back once it's relevant to the story.
Over all the book was less about his adventure and more about how he accidentally ends up with what he does, the circumstances and so forth. I'm hoping book 2 will fell more involved and intentional as well.
This was so much fun!!! A few things I didn't love... like how he's supposedly some sort of love God 🤣 The Hero has multiple "wives" that all get into bed with him immediately and "love him so much" less than 12 hours after meeting him.... 🙈 Also, Tana is meant to be this huge troll, yet in the love scenes, he just tosses her around, and she fits in a regular sized bed, hahahaha!
But everything else is great! It's such a fun storyline. Lots of twists and turns and fast-paced!
It's very silly and not believable at all, but it's clearly not meant to be.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The sex scenes were very adolescent. They lacked in detail a droned on a bit, but the rest of the book was enough to keep me hooked. I love the concept and the characters. I would loved to read more of these books to learn about the events talked about in the closing minutes of the story.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I would have read it in a single sitting if I didn't have to go to bed. Seriously. It was that entertaining. The story and characters were interesting and engaging. The story blends the perfect amount of action and humor. I'm looking forward to the next installment. This book is definitely worth reading
Markus the farmer turned into a great monster king! Excellent story filled with actin, adventure, spice and snark! Hilarious tale, a man that just wanted to be left alone, now building a kingdom! A very fun twist on dungeon tale. Read this book, you will be glad that you did!
This was a lot of fun. Played on a good deal of tropes without devolving into pure parody. Found myself snorting in amusement frequently while reading. Almost took a star off for how annoying it was when a woman showed up already in love with the protagonist 3 separate times. I know it's part of the joke, but it didn't work for me.
I found this book to be more entertaining than the last book I read by Archer, Monster Trainer Academy. I think it was because there is no fade to black moments with the romance and it really gives a chance for the main character to bound with his love interests. I will be continuing onto the next book in the series.
At first I bit confused at beginning but realize oh shit farmer to dungeon master. There is couple of chapter have missing conversation mark and weird mess sentence but rest of chapter make up for it
Personally I liked it it had good elements of civ building without getting too nitpicky although the harem building could’ve been a little more fleshed out overall, that’s my only real critique. I’m waiting for the next in the series
A little cliche to start but when it got going, Oh Man!
This is just awesome. There is no real way to say that better. The concept, the story, the flow, the characters, it is all amazing. I really hope I get to see more because it seems that the story was just barely scratched.
I found the story a fun read. Plenty of humor and lol moments. The MC isn’t your normal overpowered hero. No, just a hard working guy with some amazing luck and good friends. Looking forward to reading the next book.
It was a fun little light-hearted story that kept me laughing until the end. The sex scenes caught me a bit off guard since I was listening to the audiobook but as a whole it was so much fun that I'll be keeping an eye out for more.
Nihilistic aproach towards heroes, OP hero, inferior quality fights, harem fantasy and constant praise of the protagonist´s sexual aptitude. Best suited for sexually insecure male adolescents.
I didn’t love the writing style. Plus the cover is a bit deceiving. It’s a male lead which is fine but I didn’t love how the female “lead” was portrayed. It had some funny moments but not enough for me to care. Not for me but I hope someone else writes these fun fantasy stories but better.
It is an entertaining book - but you can certainly do without the 'sex' scenes. They add nothing really to an otherwise good book, and turn the hero (antihero?) into a James Bond like character that ALL women instantly take to bed.
If you like fantasy, with battles, trolls, dragons, pixies, and any other fantasy creature, this is for you. It read like a D&D campaign made into a book. It was enjoyable. However I will not be continuing the series.
