Day trading needs discipline and planning which I don't have. As a result end up losing. Books can give you tool but not the character.

No matter if you are bullish or bearish on the markets, if you are a value manager or growth, if you focus on fundamentals or quantitative signals, price is still the most important piece of financial market information. Price is where the rubber hits the road. Technical analysis is the study of price signals. Many investors it as voodoo, but I have always valued the discipline. I find it a useful technique to answer, “what is the market telling me?” We can get so caught up in our views of the market that we do not take enough time to answer this important question.

My knowledge of the discipline has been haphazard, picking up little pieces of information here or there. I recently read Brian Shannon’s book because I wanted to brush up on my execution skills. I am never going to be a technical trader, but I believe that there are technical techniques that allow investors to risk manage their exposure more effectively. The proof is in the pudding but I found the book powerful because I think it will assist me in achieving this goal.

Shannon provides a clear and simple framework through which to assess financial markets and make risk-adjusted investment decisions. I think it has already caused me to be more patient and observational. I know that these are powerful skills in all facets of our lives. Philosophical platitudes like this resonate with me. I view financial markets as the ultimate teacher. Just like in life, we can never be entirely correct in financial markets, but we have to make risk-adjusted decisions given the information available, learn from the feedback, adjust our principles and wake up tomorrow to fight another day as better versions of ourselves.

books on trading tend to have little insight, but this is a stunning example. one of the worst trading books i've ever read.

Too expensive for what it is. " The Trading Code " which is 1/4 of its price is much more intensive and more interesting to learn from. Meh

Book is precise. Since it's from Brian Shannon who is largely credited for popularising Anchored-VWAP; I was hoping to see some of it. There isn't any reference, has a small overview on VWAP.

I now have a pretty good understanding of Moving Averages. I did have some really useful takeaways which we know but don't seem to pay much attention. All in all Brian has done a good job explaining his thinking process and thoughts on technical analysis.

I definitely recommend this book. I hope to see more from Brian.

One of the few books I will recommend to wannabe traders is Brian Shannon's. The book does an excellent job of laying out the fundamentals of trading emotion, why many timeframes matter, why vwap counts, what short selling is (and how to identify if a short squeeze is imminent), and swing trading entry and exit rules. This book is written in a straightforward manner that gets right to the point without getting bogged down in technical jargon. It's all good. For a beginning trader, this book comes highly recommended. Absolutely. Any serious prospective trader should read this book.

Not really for intermediate to advanced traders. I saw the hefty price tag ($76) and thought I’d learn something new but this book has chapters on market/limit orders, support resistance etc. Things that a trader who’s been in the market for 6 months to a year has already learned somewhere else like YouTube. Maybe this was worth it’s price back in 2008 when it was published but definitely not in 2022.

Decent primer and overview on technical analysis and the practicalities of trading but other books cover the topics in far more depth. Probably best for beginners early on in their journey to get a feel / overview. Best parts for me were towards the end where trade entries and daily preparation was provided on a blow-by-blow basis and provide a decent template on how to approach the market every day and execute long and short trades using various timeframes.

A lot of solid, time-honored trading fundamentals and open-ended enough for a newer trader to understand that there are no absolutes, only adjustments. Only didn't give it 5 stars because SOME of the info is slightly dated and I am looking forward to Brian Shannon's new book as well as the Anchored VWAP indicator.

I tried my best since it's about crowd psychology and making sense of price movement but after reading upto chapter 3: advance, it's boring and also incoherent to me.

so, I'm skimming through...

Till the end it's very boring and tedious.

only small useful thing is - for each trading style, table with timeframes to check in each type of trend.

also, the charts pics are very poor

Concepts explained easily. Anyone can pick a stock or trade. The hard part is knowing when to cut and how far to ride a winner. The second half of this book covered that well.

Too many unnecessary and inappropriate analogs up to now. I couldn't see similarities between the analog and the stock market. Those only messes up my understanding. Good book otherwise.

One of the better trading books I've read. You will understand how different market participants think and act and how they move the markets. You will understand how to position yourself, where to put stop loss and what trades to take and when.

I would read this as a companion book to the broader classic books on trading from Minervini and O'Neil.

Highly recommend this book.
