This series is consistently charming - even when we get into more fraught storylines like in this volume, the main thrust of the story is the wholesome sweetness of Laeticia's life baking and petting fluffy animals. The stakes are a bit higher this time around, and the suitors are increasing (look out, Glenreed), but the coziness remains, and that's really what I want out of this series.

This story is normally not something I would read since I prefer more angst and strategizing. But I adored the promise of higher stakes in Vol. 1 and how Laeticia has chosen to live basically carefree during her time-limited contract marriage.

I appreciate that the slice of life bits are relevant to the overarching plot but provide significant fluff and wholesomeness.

This volume packs a lot of new plot lines with Laeticia exploring her magic, learning about Cuddle Birds, Gardner Cat dissapearing. more Kate and Natalie, and introduction of Lelena (Krona's sister). But my favorite part was the reveal of Lord Aroo's identity! I'm glad it didn't drag on.

The only thing that I don't like as much-- with other volumes too-- is how words are given to translate the animals' actions/noises but knowing the animals aren't actually talking.

While the previous two volumes each focused on a queen candidate and their problems, this book breaks free from that pattern. It expands on the world-building instead, introducing us to the bureau of magic and also giving us a glimpse of the capital city. As the result, Laetitia gets a new pet named Tweety, a Cuddle Bird from the bureau of magic. A giant chick… that loves cuddling. As the name says. Oh, and also a clowder of Gardener Cats towards the end. Joining Laetitia's villa is a new maid apprentice named Lelena, the younger sister of Krona from the first book. Lelena carries a lot of guilt because of what happened with Krona, and it extends to other issues that eventually builds up to the climax of the book. I was wondering what issue will be tackled in this volume since it's taking a different direction compared to the previous books, but it works out nicely in the end.

Being a "slow life" story, this series has been maintaining a delicate balance between slice of life and the progression of its overarching plot. It's even more evident in this particular volume. It takes a while for the main issue to come to light, but when it does, everything that happened during the slice of life parts suddenly makes sense. I also appreciate that for all the cute fluffiness the series has to offer, it doesn't drag out the revelation of Lord Aroo's identity, because Laetitia does find out in this book. Both parties feel understandably awkward and didn't get the chance to do anything about that… for now. Further development of their relationship will depend on the next books, but Glenreed does get a rival in this one. A magic nerd named Liddeus, who I'm pretty sure won't be end game for Laetitia, but still serves as a rival anyway.

So far, Laetitia is on friendly terms with Lady Natalie and Lady Kate, and she helps them to form a friendship past the human vs beastfolk prejudice. The other two candidates, Lady I-Liena and Lady Fillia, have actually been introduced in volume 2. They just haven't done anything to move the plot yet, and in this book they only appear as guests for Laetitia's tea party. It is hinted that they might have more serious issues compared to the other two though, so I wonder if we're going back to the queen candidates again after this.

Also, both Laetitia and Glenreed are starting to catch feelings. We all know this would happen sooner or later, but it's still nice to see them going beyond the relationship of a king and his placeholder queen. I look forward to the next volume.

This volume expands on the world we have been introduced in, introducing the bureau of magic and as well as giving us a glimpse of the capital city.

Along with this, a new Mystical Beast is introduced in form of a Cuddle Bird (a giant Chick), that loves cuddles.

During the commotions that happen, Laetitia would soon learn the secret behind Lord Aroo's existence. And the feelings between Laetitia and Glenreed would further develop.

I look forward to the next volume to see what happens next!

it’s just getting better and better.

It’s just getting better and better but I’m a little sad because I only have one left at the moment. I hope the author writes more. I love the clutter of cats! And she finally found out that he was the wolf. But I do have to say on with the romance people… Well onto my last one.

This volume wasn’t quite as enjoyable as volume 1—at times the story moved a bit slowly for my taste, and a few plot points were a bit coincidental—but on a whole it was an interesting volume, especially because the romance plot moves forward a lot. And the scene where Berry is the hero was really neat.

I will be the first to say that I am a sucker for love and anything wholesome, so with that being said I really enjoyed this book and all the heartwarming moments in it. The author really has a talent for describing things in detail and I enjoy reading those descriptions whether they be about a rose garden or a new animal/mythical beast.

Cuteness

I absolutely love that both the mc's are catching feelings and have so little love experience that they don't know how strong those feelings are. Looking forward to how that progresses. Also enjoying the new mysterious male character introduced this time.

another cute book

I really appreciate that this story is so light hearted and sweet without the repetitiveness of other novels. It was good.

I love how her collection of fluffy friends continues to grow. As well as her interaction more with the nobles, showing how she's trying to bring humans and beastfolk closer together, to help bring peace to the kingdom. It just shows how she could be a good queen there. There are a couple of characters I wish there was more explanation for. The guy that showed up that animals hate still barely has a reason to be there, especially as he's considered a spy. Then a bard shows up as well. Makes me wonder what's the criteria for getting to enter the castle. I love her life of leisure, but I do think there needs to be more focus on what all these people around her are doing.
