EN This is currently one of my favourite series to read.
It’s also the one that’s deepening my appreciation for Manhwa — and webtoons in particular. There’s something about the way webtoons are structured that makes the narrative flow feel especially smooth and engaging. Honestly, I’m starting to think webtoons might be reinventing comics altogether. I know I’m late to the party and others probably reached this conclusion years ago, but for me, it still feels like a fresh discovery.
Even though I’m reading it in print — where the panels had to be restructured for a physical format — the pacing and narrative rhythm, shaped by its webtoon origins, remain clearly present.
It’s definitely a series I plan to continue, and one I’d highly recommend if you enjoy a compelling and well-crafted story.
For some reason, reading it brings a strange but welcome sense of comfort.
Maybe slightly less engaging than the previous volumes, but still such an original fun read, that it actually doesn't matter you don't know what's really going on most of the time.
Intriguing as ever, one of the highlights of this volume is Bam finding Rachel, even if for what it seems to be a brief period of time.
Some good funny moments here and there, lots of action and twists, and great quality characters, though we still need to get more background on some of them. But, hey, we are getting there...
So much action!! I actual finished this in one day but I got seriously lazy and didn't write a review lol. But I'm really looking forward to the next vol. Because I need answers!!
I broke my practice of switching to a different title to try to get a variety of reviews—since the next season of the anime is now airing, it sort of set off some feelings about the story beyond Season 1.
So, the thing is, Season 1 of both the anime and the webtoon have a very contained feel to them, like a complete-enough story that, had either ended there, could have been a satisfying-ish end. Thing is, S.I.U kept going (not blaming him or anything, why wouldn't he keep going?), but Webtoon Season 2 kind of piled on and piled on... until he took a break (author's note at the end of the comic), then Season 3 starts... basically where Season 2 stopped, as though no break had happened.
Like, I've tried to explain to my spouse the difference between Webtoon Seasons 2 and 3, and... I can't. They're two parts of one VERY LONG "season" that goes all over the place without any coherent delineation of "This season is about THIS character" or similar. Could Seasons 2 and 3 have been shorter, and more contained? Possibly, but they weren't.
It's different from the "Tournament Arc" in The World After the Fall, where , because that's done mostly for comedy and shortens the drudgery of what would otherwise be predictable (a "the main character beats everybody and here's how" string of fight sequences). Here, the story loses track of the "climbing the tower" quest and goes off on a WHOLE BUNCH of tangents ("side quests") that, if I'm being honest, lost the plot for me.
So, my rating for this volume is a bit affected by the fact I've read in advance, and that even at the pace of this volume, it's going to take more than FIFTY to catch up to where the story is currently! At the assumed rate of 1 book = 10 or 11 episodes (slightly confused by the division in books 1 and 2 and I'm not patient enough to check against the website)
Season 1: ~7 books Season 2: ~30 books Season 3: ~19 books to date (including Fast Pass episodes)
Please note I said the pace of THIS volume; unfortunately(?), book 4 is HALF the size (though higher quality) for the same price!
So that means MORE books, and considering just one is MSRP $18.99 USD/$24.99 CAD, that's a bit of an investment! (I'd say the same of Lore Olympus, though, but that at least finished, so I can make a more solid estimate of the final cost to complete the series.)
I don't know. I want to judge only this volume only by its own merits, but the fact is when I was reading it, I kept thinking about what comes after the "introductory" season and how the scope is so far beyond what I am supposed to be able to comprehend that it leaves me feeling like, what does this part mean, then? This volume is them playing at such an elementary level, and it then leaps into graduate school but raised to several exponents! All I know is the action is increasingly intricate and pretty, but I can't follow any of it.
On that: Actually, I even still have a bit of a time following this ELEMENTARY level, with the whole "Here, everyone will be put into classes now to learn about jobs you might have higher in the tower" stuff. I still don't really get the Fishermen, nor why Rak is mad he isn't one. As a result, I'm not entirely sure I understand how Fisherman (Distance Fighter?)-Spear Bearer (... ALSO Distance Fighter?)-Light Bearer (Commander/Intelligence)-Scout-Wave Controller (Magic User?) is a balanced group.
There's also the issue of Bam's quest: to find Rachel. Well, about that... I guess if Bam got sidetracked, then okay, but it feels very different as a result, ESPECIALLY with the lack of real resolution.
I don't know. I guess I just don't like that the quality seems so much lower (some of Webtoon's other recent publications are a LOT prettier... like... The World After the Fall) and there are weird artefacts in my copy that I can't tell if they're printing errors or what. It just feels like it's not very good for a series I had started out liking but am now a bit jaded with it. It might just be from the "spoiler" effect of knowing this series would take up most of my bookshelves by itself and I most likely wouldn't even read the books again, even though they're easier to read than the webtoon.
Recommended for diehard fans who have the shelf space, I guess. I kind of wish it were at least the more dynamic cover referred to in the bonus section of book 4. (Speaking of, the random *two page* sample of The God of High School is a little weird, since it's a spoiler from the MIDDLE of a fight...)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Tower of God has been a consistently phenomenal series. Believe it or not, it’s the only series comparable to One Piece when it comes to incredible world building and maintaining a huge cast of characters that’s constantly growing but also consistently well written.
This is the third physical volume of the Tower of God Webtoon. I've followed this work for quite some time and love to have the ability to support it by purchasing these volumes. It's not too often that I'm preordering books, but this is a series that I'm more than happy to do so with.
This continues the testing arc where Bam and the other characters are earning the right to climb the tower. It's an engaging story full of interesting characters and lots of mystery to figure out. The artwork of these early volumes are maybe not quite as impressive artistically, but the art continues to improve over time and it will totally be worth it in the future.
I was originally planning to only read a part of this today, but wound up blasting through the whole thing and wishing I had the next volume already. That's how good I think this series is.
Cocky Khun is my favourite Khun. Then, it's whipped Khun.
Khun: no, we can't be friends. Bam: I've never had friends. Khun: we'll be friends.
Whatever Bam wants, he gets. Though Khun always end up getting emotional because of Bam and making mistakes. Like trusting Roachel and thinking Bam won't figure out her identity. To be honest, Bam is quite selfish whenever Rachel is concerned. He gave up the crown game to save her, sure, but he'd been considering it since he saw her. So Rak and Khun's efforts meant nothing. Whenever Roachel enters the equation, Bam's brains leave the chat.
This volume had such fun chapters. The dialogues and extra comments are just so food.
As for chapters it covers chapters 21 to 31 when Anaak challenges Endorsi.
This published third volume of one of my favorite WEBTOONs follows Bam as he journeys up the mysterious tower to find his best friend, Rachel. Facing his death the higher he climbs, Bam must form alliances with other teammates in order to survive. With new friends and enemies surfacing every day, Bam is closer than ever to reuniting with Rachel. Secrets are uncovered though, which could put everyone's lives in danger when the teams compete in the Crown Game.
I really enjoyed this title. I didn't see the twist coming in this book *SHOCKED* and am excited that more background information about the characters is leaking out! - Stephanie, Information Services Librarian
I’m still hooked. I’m still confused. I’m still invested. So disappointed the next volume is so short. I don’t think it will be wrapped up and I hate being left hanging! Love the illustrations and action. Just need more progress in the storyline.
** For those who read reviews please note that I do not typically give a graphic novel higher than ⭐️⭐️⭐️. I tend to save higher ratings for books. This doesn’t mean a graphic novel / comic isn’t good. It’s just my style of reviewing**

heaps of fun! more questions answered, more asked.
i liked Rahel a lot better in this one; i find it interesting that she's being eyed askance by the narrative for wanting more than a dark existence. literally her dream is to get to the stars and see them with the ones she loves at her side, instead of living in the dark. it feels like the narrative is demonising her for wanting that, and upholding idiot Bam for wanting nothing but to keep the person he likes at his side, no matter if that means crushing her dreams of the stars and keeping them both forever in the dark while striving for nothing and dreaming of nothing.
the way Rahel tweaks things behind the scenes to prompt Bam to do stuff, tho--that's another thing altogether, and not a great thing.
more than anything in this one, i found myself thinking that SIU must have spent a lot of time in middle-management or as a salaryman, bc the corporate vibes in the Tower are IMPECCABLE, down to the cheating, the senseless obedience and the tricky sidling around the rules while keeping the rules, and the fact that no one really knows what's happening
and obviously, Kkun and Raku remain favourites for obvious reasons
I initially had a lot of difficulty with this series, but I'm glad I continued anyway. This was a really interesting volume, and I enjoyed most of what happened here.
In this volume, the struggle to get to the next floor of the Tower continues. As I said, there were a lot of interesting things going on, both with the characters and the world.
I'm not loving the series as of yet, and the art is still pretty weak. The stakes also feel rather low, so far. But still, I like the story, I like the characters, and I'm really curious to see where everything will lead. So far, these first few volumes feel like the beginning of something great.
S.I.U's Tower of God is one of the most read Webtoon shonen manhwa. The webtoon is now coming to print. and spans a few chapters. It opens with the conclusion of the Crown Game. Resolving that arc and Ends with one of my favorites, Zahard's Princess. Leaving on a cliffhanger will leave you waiting for the next chapter.
All in all Excited to add this volume to my shelf.
Thank you NetGalley and WEBTOON Unscrolled for the Arc in exchange for an honest review.
