Creature Encounters #1

It Came with the Crash

Rate this book
They thought the plane crash was the worst that could happen to them. They were dead wrong.

Stranded in the middle of the forest and without help, six crash survivors forge a plan to stay alive in the harsh conditions that surround them. As the days go on and their supplies dwindle, the tension in the group increases. To make matters worse, they soon begin to realize that they are being watched by someone... or rather something. The bodies of their dead passengers disappear in the night, animalistic shrieks fill the air, and sometimes - just sometimes - they see a figure between the trees watching them.

The group is faced with a difficult decision: Leave the crash site in search for help, or continue waiting for rescue. They know that the wrong decision could be their death - either by mother nature, or something far more terrifying.

Wow! Hope there's a sequel!

I love this story first one I ever read from the author and thank you for not filling this with woke cult nonsense! It's been hard to weed out the woke trash from real authors these days and this author thankfully wrote for everyone not just for a small minority. Story wise this is an excellent creature feature the atmosphere the author generates I amazing at one point I was covering my eyes because of what I was reading was so scary. This isn't a bigfoot book though I thought it was and once I figured what this creature was is I am so hoping for a sequel! I love genetic stories that go crazy so please PLEASE give us a sequel anyway I highly suggest this book for those who like me who love good old fashioned creature features

Three stars for the story

Boris Bacic can tell a decent story, but he really needs a good editor/proofreader. The number of grammatical errors in this book make it seem like reading a hastily-written first draft rather than a finished product. Some of his other titles look intriguing but I doubt that I'll bother for that reason.

The first book in the 'Creature Encounter' series (but second for me as I read the second book first) - and while it did not freak me out as much as the first one I read (I have a seriously healthy fear of the sea), there were still moments where it had me hiding my face. Honestly, this author has an uncanny way of writing books about my worst fears!

Not one of Boris' better stories. The writing was pretty amateurish (eg. bizarre adjectives and awkward dialogue) and the characters were strictly 2D caricatures.

I like how fast-paced this series is (so far).. they get straight to the creepy good stuff.
I wasn't all that impressed with the ending and WHAT the creature was tho.

This book has such a great title. Sadly, however, I couldn't get past the writing style, which was like being hit in the face with a thesaurus. The story was perhaps great -the synopsis certainly sounded promising- but I just couldn't get into it.

Packed with suspense, horror, and an insight into the human mind's most profound complexities, the book is about a group of plane crash survivors stuck in the middle of a dense forest. While the book starts with the survivors going at each other, they soon realize something is out there watching them. I liked the ending, even though it leaves a lot to decipher, as it wasn’t something I expected. At times a bit slow, but the book makes for a good read.

A real page turner!

A plane crashes in the middle of a remote forest and the passengers killed on impact are considered the lucky ones. The survivors, a rather unpleasant bunch it must be said, try to survive in the wilderness. Testosterone runs amok, they squabble amongst themselves, murder plots are considered and death stalks the group. Just what kind of creature is stalking them? Is it toying with them? Is it intelligent? Who can you trust? This story has an unexpected twist towards the end which takes the tale to another level altogether. Well recommended!

Decent survivor horror book involving 6 plane crash survivors stranded in the forest and being taken out 1 by 1 by some type of creature or wild animal. At first I thought this was going to be one of those books where the "monster" was going to be the way the survivors turned on each other when they became desperate, but the creature was actually real, although it wasn't what I thought it was, in fact I was pleasantly surprised by what it actually was.

Surviving a plane crash is a remarkable feat. What’s scarier comes after as you’re waiting to be rescued. The survivors are being hunted by a creature in the woods that moves far too fast to track. Luckily a Dr. lives and is able to help the group with injuries but really no one is safe from other backstabbing characters. Since they are all strangers everyone is out for themselves. Days pass and everyone’s inner demons will come out. The end is kind of a shock but nothing mind blowing. Enjoyed this. It was a super quick audio and the imminent danger kept the thrills and chills high.

It kept my attention.... Its not deep literature with hidden meanings but if your looking for a quick adventure book to pass the time this will do. A plane crash occurs and a motley crew are forced together to survive a creature that is lurking in the forrest.

I wasn’t crazy about this one. I really hoped for this heavy, ominous story but what I got was a load of panicked people, afraid for their lives. I learned way too much about the characters, which didn’t make me feel close to them but more annoyed. I didn’t like many of them at all. The times I was quite interested was during the attacks.

The explanation that followed wasn’t very thrilling either. It left much to be desired. Sorry.

The premise of It Came with the Crash immediately intrigued me. It had all the ingredients for a tense, gory sci-fi horror, and in some moments, it really delivered on that front. The creature attacks were genuinely spooky and satisfyingly gruesome, just as I’d hoped.

Unfortunately, the overall execution didn’t quite live up to the promise. The writing felt rough and in need of more thorough editing, which made it harder to stay immersed. While the characters were introduced in a way that made them easy to tell apart, they often felt one-dimensional and largely unlikable, which made it difficult to fully engage with their fates.

The ending didn’t land as strongly as I wanted. It lacked the punch or clarity that might have made the buildup more worthwhile.

All in all, there are glimmers of what could have been a great read here, especially in the horror elements, but the lack of polish held it back for me.

After their plane crashes in the middle of the forest, six survivors are forced to rely on one another to survive. With dwindling supplies, they assume rescue will come in the next day or two, but what happens if rescue has no idea where they are? Someone or something does know their whereabouts, and it slowly picks them off one by one, starting with the dead passengers. Should the group wait at the crash site for rescue, or venture out into the woods in search of help? Either way, something is watching.

I am a sucker for survival horror, and It Came With the Crash hit the spot. It was fast-paced, multi-pov, and a fun read. For anyone who loves Jeremy Bates’ horror novels, Bacic is a great addition to your collection. Bacic’s novel was very similar to Bates’ Mountain of the Dead creature feature and creature back story. If you’re in need of a book to get you out of a reading slump, It Came With the Crash is a great choice.

**POTENTIAL SPOILER REFERENCING THE Ending**

Cool concept, though somewhat flawed, a good story.

I found it lacking much depth in the characters, aND OVER ALL COULD HAVE been more detailed.

Biggest issue--the somewhat cut off ending.
Despite the need for more details, or maybe it is the same reason, the end of the battle for survival just...happens. Then it's months later, following new characters, and *bam* THE END.
POV from the survivors as they found their way to safety, and after, would have helped a lot. I feel there was need for internal monologue to understand how they felt and also...uhm...who and how they really are. And follow up about the creature's origins.

Anyways, it was good for what it is. 4*

This was a suspenseful survival horror that turns into a cat and mouse game against a monstrosity born to kill. I love how Boris really gets you to know and care for these characters while never slowing the storyline. The more I experience of this author, the more I love the way he writes.. always fluid, always original, and always an awesome horror read! 4/5 skulls 💀

A suspenseful survivalist tale with additional dangers from an unknown and terrifying menace.

The tale begins with a crash of a commercial jetliner somewhere in the heavily forested region of the west or Pacific Northwest, approximately one hour from its intended destination in California. There are only a handful of survivors. The survivors try to make do with what they can extract from the remains of the crash in order to ensure their survival while waiting for rescue. It soon becomes apparent that there is something menacing out there within the darkness of the surrounding forest.

The story started out a bit slow but steadily gained momentum with ever increasing suspenseful scenarios. Once on the roll I had to continue on without stopping in order to find out what was going on and if the survivors will make it. But the ending just kind of fizzled out. It was “meh.” I would have liked a bit more of an explanation as to the reason for certain things within the story. Another feature of the story I didn’t care for was a good portion of the dialogue at the very beginning, right after the plane crash. I don’t know if the author intended a lot of the verbal exchanges among the survivors as an attempt at humor e.g. when the survivors are discussing among themselves whether or not they should take certain actions, (I’m trying to provide just enough information without having to give a spoiler alert) but I thought the provided dialogue fell flat. It just didn’t work with those particular characters created by the author. Among those few survivors there is a doctor, a corporate executive, a software engineer (who was on the way to an interview with Facebook) and a college football player. These characters all have a higher education and possess a higher degree of intelligence than the average, typical individual. This is especially true regarding the doctor. Considering a particular directive he made concerning another survivor, Josh, he apparently forgot about his Hippocratic oath. Now if the author would have fashioned these survivors to be of a lower educational level and less sophisticated, like maybe yokels obviously from the backwater, the verbal exchanges given could have been more believable and therefore possibly even humorous, providing some comedic relief amidst an otherwise tragic event. As it was, it just didn’t work. Not only was it not at all believable but it was even appalling. Maybe better editing could have caught this. That being said, overall, I did like the plot line. I found it increasingly suspenseful and for the most part found it to be an absorbing read. The ending left open the possibility of a sequel, and if the author does provide one, I would be interested in continuing on with this story, with the hope to get some closure to some questions left unanswered in this book. I would like to give it a three and a half star review, because it doesn’t quite meet the level of my four star reviews, but since I can’t give a half of a star and considering some of the features I was not satisfied with, I am giving it three stars. Nonetheless, I am interested in checking out more of this author’s works.

I started this book when I sat down on a plane, not realizing it was about a plane crash... Not my favorite of this author's books, but I enjoyed reading it. There were a few too many characters so they weren't as fleshed out personality wise and it was difficult to care about them. I liked the creepy creature in the woods scenes and I actually liked the end reveal, despite other not enjoying it. But I wished there were more scenes of that and maybe learning more about it and having a connection to the characters/crash/etc. I received this book as an advanced reader copy and am.leaving my review voluntarily.

I love trapped in the woods stories! 😀 And I really enjoy Boris Bacic’s work! I’ve read a few books in this series, out of order, so it was nice to finally get around to reading book #1. I was super excited to read this one.

It Came with the Crash is a great story. 6 survivors lost in the woods. Something starts picking them off one by one. OOOOO! Fun times!! 😀 Very tense and suspenseful. About 50% in and the creature shows up- things go crazy! I thought I knew what was going on but the big twist at the end really caught me off guard. 😮 What a twist!!

While the book is very entertaining, the ending is a little confusing. :/ A few things- a death of one character, finding the map, ect.- were a little unclear. It felt like the author might have been trying to show something shady going on….? But I couldn’t tell if I was just reading too much into it? And then the book ends pretty abruptly. :/

The audiobook has AWFUL production quality!! I don’t know what was going on. D: It sounded like it was recorded in a bathroom stall on a potato… Not good at all.

It Came with the Crash is a suspenseful creature feature. A perfect start to the Creature Encounter series. I enjoyed the story a lot. Ton of tension and the action really ramps up once the creature shows up. The twist was a real surprise! The ending is a little confusing and abrupt, but overall it is satisfactory.

It came with the crash - 5/5
By Boris Bacic

Firstly, this cover is gorgeous.

Secondly, the content is amazing. Every time I pick up a book by Boris Bacic, I prepare myself for disappointment, just in case it’s not as good as the last one. Thankfully, this doesn’t appear to be an issue with books written by this author.

This book was wonderfully written - and is not one I would recommend for people who are claustrophobic or aerophobic! Some scenes are written so vividly you feel like you are there!

Fast paced, gory and atmospheric - this is a creature feature that can’t be missed!

Decent creepypasta with infuriating characters and the worst narrator I've ever had the displeasure of listening to. I feel rude saying that but I don't know how else to put it. His cadence and pronunciations are all over the place. Each chapter title sounds like an awkward ominous whispered question uttered by a drunk alien. His voice itself is nice though.

For a self published book it’s better than most. The author has a good command of language (like reading a thesaurus). The story however, takes awhile to get moving. While there is great character development, there is poor set up of setting. Yes, there’s a plane crash and it happens in the deep woods, but there’s no immediate description of the survivors surroundings (the terrain, sounds, scents, etc.) making it challenging as a reader to imagine where they are, and while it can be appreciated that the reader use their imagination, there needs to be grounded description to set the tone beyond the characters and their predicament. Additionally, the author overuses dialogue tags and adverbs that rain supreme; it’s these grammatical pieces that have continually taken me out of the story. That and each chapter starts with a character to tell the reader that it’s written from their point of view, but it’s unnecessary because the voice doesn’t change. I expected the POV to be spoken using “I” so I could immerse myself into the character but instead, each chapter is written in third person, so why bother with the chapter titles of the people? Remove those and simply write, “Chapter One”, and so on.

The overuse of adverbs, dialogue tags, and assumptions from the characters ideas of each other, is too much to take. Use adverbs sparingly, let the reader make up their own minds about the characters, and give us more setting to set the tone and dire situation that they are in.

I made it halfway through the book and called it quits. There wasn’t anything to keep me moving forward, despite the strong character development. The scare factor that other reviewers are talking about is lukewarm at best.

Meh!

The book's intro pretty much describes the book. A plane crashes in some remote forested area, all but 6 people die, and there is no sign of rescue. To make it worse there is a creature on the prowl threatening the survivors.

I am intrigued by plane crash survival stories but this one never really took hold. The biggest suspense in the book was not if people would die but who would die. Character-wise we had a mix - a football jock, a computer nerd, a guy who just broke up with his girlfriend, two women, and a fatherly figure.

The biggest pill of reality suspension was the fact that there was no rescue. The author needed to establish a time period where the survivors could be stalked by the predator - I get that - but no rescue? Given what we know about aircraft technology including beacons, this seemed a little far-fetched.

What was interesting was the transformation of the people in terms of their care for their fellow person - or lack thereof. There is a lack of trust causing everyone to ponder if they would be better off without some people. In fact, more people die at the hands of each other than from the monster.

The book ends somewhat abruptly with only a brief and vague explanation of the monster's origin. Of course, there is a twist that leads you to believe that there could be more to the story - but it is just one of those endings where the reader is left wondering about the possibilities.

This was an "okay" read, but I doubt I will pursue more from this author.

When a small plane crashes, seven of the twenty passengers survive.

One man is fatally injured; it reduces the party of survivors down to six:

Sam: awkward and emotional after a rough breakup with his girlfriend. He works in customer support.
Mitch: 22, a college football player. Aggressive jock.
Linda: early twenties; a student. Boyfriend Josh dies in her arms. Timid and shell-shocked.
Norton: “middle aged” doctor (endocrinologist).
Amber: forties; a sales consultant. Sarcastic and funny.
Will: 23, a nerdy software engineer. More resourceful than he gives himself credit for.

No clue where they are…in the middle of the woods…

Horror with thriller-style pacing.

Dreams.

Creepy shrieks. Brief sightings.

First disappearance.

Continuity issue: How is Amber “middle-aged” (forties) if she’s only eight years older than Linda (early twenties)?

The cockpit. The flare gun. The pilot’s warning.

Trek through the woods.

The creature. 😱

There’s something about Linda…

It’s not the pacing that’s off here. It’s the flow of information that doesn’t work.

Yikes. Boris’s English has improved a ton, as this one is a bit older…but the incessant tense mistakes are…rough. A fair amount of other ESL errors as well.

The characters aren’t just unlikable. They’re not even interesting.

Bizarre narrative decisions on who dies and who survives. The two who make it are…pretty damn awful.

Not a fan of the ending. At. All. ⬇️

Thanks the readers. 👏🏻

I enjoyed this whole book.... except the ending. Most of the book I'd give 4*, but the crux of their survival is just so ridiculous I had to reflect that. My issue was with the green eyes thing.... So the girl has green eyes, that makes her able to command the monster (seemingly with only her intentions) to kill or spare a victim? Very, very far fetched. It really ruined an otherwise good read. It was kind obvious the way the monster was a failed experiment, I've heard this trope many times. It wasn't necessary at all, in my opinion. The story would have been just as good if the monster had no backstory at all. And then the green eyes thing is foreshadowed by one of the characters before it happens, like why would anyone think it was Linda's EYES that spared her? I assumed it was her beauty or gender myself. The more I thought about those things the more bothered by them I got. However, it's decent writing (aside from a few weird punctuation, which could be something to do with English as a second language, so I'll forgive it...) and just the right length. I did hope for more depth from the characters, but hey it's a creature book and a "deep" character that you actually care for is hard to find sometimes!
This is my first time reading this author, and I've decided to read "They Came From The Deep" also and hope for a better ending.
