We are all born full of potential to be whomever we would like to be and have the life that we choose. However, many women become trapped in the roles that they have been handed by others and feel overshadowed by the ‘mountains’ (obstacles born from conditioning) in their lives. We are led to believe that we have to fit in our culture’s narrow view of whom they think that we are. Many a woman when contemplating her life, has thought, “there has to be something more!” and has then felt so stuck because she has no idea where to start or how to make this happen for herself. We are so much more powerful than we give ourselves credit for. Through her unique blend of storytelling, poetry and archetype work, Tanya Valentin guides you on an epic journey as you explore how you can use Ancient Archetype wisdom to unlock the treasure that is YOU in all your magnificence.
This book will help you to: Become aware of your own stories and heal your old patterns of behaviour that are keeping you stuck, with practical and powerful exercises in this book. Break out of the roles that you have been handed in life, create more opportunities and take back your own power, by speaking up and making decisions for yourself, with your newfound confidence. Discover and explore your powerful feminine energies that are alive inside of you and how you can use them as a force to move those ‘mountains’ in your life, to create the life that you choose.
Born in a small town in South Africa, Tanya now lives in beautiful rural New Zealand with her husband, three teenage daughters, her dog, three cats and a collection of cute free-range farm animals.
With a background in education, Tanya is the author of two books a teacher, coach, poet and podcaster.
Tanya supports midlife women who are on an awakening journey to unlearn beliefs and behaviours that no longer serve them so that they can reconnect with and love the woman behind the roles, responsibilities and the weight of other people's expectations. Tanya is committed to co-creating magic in the lives of women so they can discover their purpose, reclaim their joy, find their voice, and live the next half of their lives in a way that feels true to who they authentically are as the magnificent Queen of their own lives.
When She Wakes, She Will Move Mountains is a powerhouse of a book.
While I haven't worked through all of the exercises just yet, I have read through and started with Maiden. I can tell that these exercises and stories are going to be so healing for me. I believe this can also serve as a wonderful manual for Women's Circle leaders, such as myself, and I feel like the author has written with that in mind - as a circle leader herself.
I can't wait to work through all of these exercises, and to dive even deeper into each of the archetypes. While I'm familiar with all of them I haven't given them equal attention and this book seems to be a gentle way; a foundational start to heal yourself from all the wounds and stories that women/femmes have encountered in our lives.

I loved this book. In full disclosure, I couldn't quite follow the maiden/mother/queen sections but it was still a great book nonetheless. I love the integration of theory into practical applications and the consistent confronting of the cultural values that keep women small.
This book was not one to rush through and I know I will read it again giving the time it deserves to each chapter, each activity, each reflection that it prompts. I found myself bookmarking so many pages that I will now go back and read it again taking in each chapter in a slower way to do some self reflection and document in the journal as she suggested. She has opened my mind to explore many parts of my past that I haven’t thought about in a long long time and now will do the work to connect the dots and see where it takes me. I enjoyed the stories that were told throughout the book and found that her insight connected for me on many levels.
This book is brimming with powerful anecdotes and metacognitive journaling exercises. Some were fun, some were challenging, and most were deeply emotional. It took me over two months to work through this book, which for me is an unspeakably long time. I've filled more journal pages in the last two months than I have in the past decade. My one critique for this book is the amount of typos and errors. There were a lot. I fully understand that mistakes can be found in every book and I'm positive that there are going to be some typos in this very review. However, there were so many in here that it got distracting at times.
Overall, though, this book was wonderful, empowering, and enlightening!
Planning on a thorough re-read next year. This was amazing. There are so many aspects of womanhood we have yet to unlock. This is a wonderful guide to finding your inner warrior woman and will help me, as an author, create more fully rounded, authentic female characters.
