Red String

This is not a love story. It isn’t a knitting story either, so if that’s what you’re looking for, try the DIY section four rows over. As for me, all I want is a normal date night at the carnival, eating funnel cake, scoring prizes, and snuggling in the Tunnel of Love. But when one of the rides ends in a death toll, it trips my need to help in a world too often void of it. Problem is, I’m supposed to be staying on the down-low, and playing the hero is high profile.

Now, my boyfriend and I are on the run, with more mayhem, carnage, and Carolina swamp muck than you can shake a radioactive raccoon at. If we can’t rig this high-wire game of pursuit in our favor, I’ll be wishing for the inside of a body bag.

Will our red string be severed before we can cross the state line?

Both savage and, at times, violently funny, Red String whips readers through scene after well-crafted scene of brutal action and volatile emotion. A fascinating first glimpse into the heartrending world of a young woman who refuses to sacrifice her humanity...except maybe for her all-consuming, turbulent partner in crime.
A must-read.

A young woman with the ability to heal. A young man who loves her and who’s doing everything to protect her… but from what?
This story begins, innocently enough about a couple having fun at a carnival. A tragic accident has Rachel springing into action to save as many as she can, but Ethan has to force her to stop. She’s been seen on too many cameras.
Rachel is an empath, and while she’s learning to control what she lets in, some things can’t be helped. Like when she wakes from a nightmare, only to realize she’s harmed Ethan. But was it really a nightmare? Is Ethan who we think/want him to be? Who are the people after her, and what could they want so badly they would kill for it?
This is a standalone novelette, and a page turner that ends too soon. Left with more questions than answers, the author has some explaining to do. Lucky for us, she’s doing just that. Red String is a must read, but is best served up with the novel Bittersweet Empathy Book 1: The Spiral.
This is presenting itself to become one of the best erotically charged, paranormal, psychological thriller series of the decade.

This novelette should come with a warning. “Keep your seat belts fastened and hold on tight until this ride has come to a complete stop. “
Or maybe, “Do not read this before bed as the adrenaline rush you experience may cause insomnia.”

From the very first word, Nikki's nearly supernatural ability to draw you into her character's lives is on full display as you follow the mischievous misadventures of Rachel and Ethan.

Full of her trademark dark humor and enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat, Red String will have you screaming like a yeti from page one all the way to the shocking final scene.

In Red String, our protagonists from The Spiral have changed their names and are on the run. From whom? It appears they have multiple enemies, implying Amy's big plans at the end of The Spiral must have gone awry. I look forward to reading books 2 and 3 to find out how and why.

Amy's abilities have strengthened and she appears to have more control over them. But it doesn't take her enemies long to track her down. This action-packed novella will keep you guessing: Who is Secret Squirrel? Is Amy's partner in crime too good to be true? And what will she get up to next?

When something goes terribly wrong at the fair, Rachel and Ethan are forced to go on the run.

This story was a quick read for me. It kept me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for what was going to happen next.

There were parts that were a bit scary but also parts that were very touching; despite it not being a love story. Definitely worth reading.

A well-written book with a strong female protagonist.
Is it a love story? Is it a horror story? Is it a thriller? Yes, it’s all three. Rachel finds out the bad side of Empathy. Ethan, and others, find out the bad side of Rachel. They both find out the bad side of being on the run. Intrigue, love, and horror all wrapped up in one nice package.
It’ll leave you wanting more and you’re in luck because it’s part of the Bittersweet Empathy series.

For a short, this novelette packs in a lot of story and excitement. Rachel and her boyfriend Ethan are enjoying a seemingly innocent night of fun at a carnival that quickly turns into a fast-paced, action-packed journey into terror showcasing Rachel's paranormal abilities and Ethan's own particular skillset. It's an awesome story that will leave you wanting more and that's the best kind.

To me this is just junk writing. Lots of nonsense. Can't see the allure.
