A Love Like That #3

My Wrong Number

Rate this book
An alternate cover for this ASIN can be found here.

Texting the wrong number never felt so right.

It started with a not-so-innocent text that I'd meant to send to the guy I was casually dating. Things had been moving slowly, and I'd decided it was time to spice things up.

Me: I need you to come over. I want to feel you inside me.
Him: Who is this?
Me: Indy. Who’s this?
Him: Wrong number.
Me: Oh crap. I’m sorry.
Him: I’m not. What’s your address?

Now, I have to decide whether I want to block him and text the guy I meant to in the first place. Or do something outrageously bold and tell him to come over.

Me: . . .

Wrong number. Right guy.

Indie is dating using an online app. When a few dates leads to exchanging numbers she never thought she’d be inviting a stranger over. Now the guy, Cal turns out to be closer to her day to day life than she expects.

This is a fun office romance with heated scenes. What starts as a one night stand turns into more than a scandal.

tropes: age gap, office romance

where's the romance? there is no romance!
basically, she texts the wrong number and ends up sleeping with the wrong number guy, a few days later she finds out he's her new boss.

the sexist co-worker plot and the cheating brother were so boring! they focus so much on taking down this coworker that we don't develop the relationship. all they do together is have sex, they don't go on dates or have lazy moments together.
also, the cheating brother thing was so unnecessary, it brought no drama and did nothing to the plot, so why add that?

My Rating - 4.25/5

Indy went on a few dates with a guy named Joel whom she met through a dating app. But when he gave her someone else's number. That's how she and Cal first met. With a wrong number. They had an one night stand. They soon met again. Turned out Cal was Indy's new boss. One thing led to another and soon they started dating. There were some obstacles with their workplace but got over with their issues. Cal proposed Indy after a year later.

My Feelings-

- I loved Leslie, Indy's bestie.

-It was hilarious when Indy texted Cal for the first time. Kill me now! I couldn't stop laughing.🤣

- Both Indy and Cal were celibate.

- Okay, so why there was no interaction between Indy and her family. Heck, Cal never met them either.

- Office romance? Mmmm... Hell ya!😁

- “This place isn’t the exception, Cal; it’s the rule. Women are treated like this in every business everywhere. I’m not saying every man is like this. Not every woman is treated this way, but there is most likely some woman who is being treated like shit by some man—or worse, by men—simply because she’s a woman. Unless you’re lucky enough to work somewhere that’s mostly women, but even then some of the most sexist people I’ve ever encountered are other women.”
This is so true. Hell, my own grandmother is sexist most of the time. But good thing, my parents are pretty chill. I dunno what I would've done otherwise. But I feel so bad for the people who still go through with all the trouble because of being women. I hate sexist people so much! That's why I was glad Cal took the matter so seriously. But Patrick and his father-in-law both were pretty disgusting. I feel bad for their wives.

- I really wanted to hug Cal for what he did. Not only for Indy but he wanted to actually stand up for other women too. It's really heart-warming. So, when Indy gave him crap, I wanted to shout at her. Good thing she realized her mistake.

This, my gosh, was one hell of a book. It was funny and emotional. I loved it so much 🥰

This is a toughie. I did enjoy this book in the sense that, I started it last night, and I already finished it. It was a reallly quick read, and it was a good palate cleanser to read after I read a number of lengthy and complex fantasy books earlier this month. It was straight-forward and a quick binge read. It's also pretty steamy.

That said, most of the characters were pretty awful--they did not pass the vibe test. The romance is really insta-love. Cal and Indy were suddenly just obsessed with each other, and Cal never was worried at all about the risk to his own new job. I'm all for workplace romances, but I thought this one was handled very strangely. This book was frankly an HR nightmare (even beyond the Patrick part of it--the entire office, including the main characters, consistently behaved bizarrely). It was also weird that the blurb/description of the book was something that happened in the first 10 pages and then moved on. The description does not even mention that this is a boss workplace romance or anything that happens after the first 10 pages.

I was mostly disappointed that several of the larger plot points were never actually settled. The villain, Patrick, just got to move to another office without any punishment. Villain #2, Joel, was not really held accountable at all for his cheating, and we didn't get closure on what happened with him and his wife. I was disappointed that they didn't get any bad karma.

Still, it was enjoyable enough and a very quick steamy contemporary romance.

Wrong Number is exactly what brought Indy and Cal together. This was such a fun read and I really enjoyed it.

I was cursing out loud every time Patrick made an appearance.

A sizzling, hot office romance that left me wanting more. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Why? Why for the love of all things in this world is this not my life??

RL, thank you for making me fall in love - as usual. I don't think I will ever tire from reading your books. Ever.

Imagine putting all your pride aside and texting the guy you're interested in just to find out you're texting the wrong number... That's enough to make you want to dig your own grave and die from humiliation right? But, not in this case...

You see ladies, Indy put her pride aside and landed her a one night stand with the handsome Cal who turned out to be her new boss! I know right, friggin' embarrassing - not entirely but it is kind of mortifying.

As shameful as it turned out to be there was no denying their attraction to one another and from there... Love blooms. Yes, there are bumps along the way and very steamy moments, but I'm not going to spoil it for you. So, grab a copy and fall in love...

I really enjoyed this office romance and read it in a couple of hours. What happens when you text the wrong number but it turns out to be the right guy? It was funny in places and maddening in other places. Indy and Cal hook up for what they think is a one night stand but when Monday morning comes and he's suddenly the new boss, you know things are gonna get interesting. Indy's friend is a hoot and I loved her humor and loyalty to her friend. There isn't really any OW/OM drama which is refreshing but there are a few twists. I can't really say much about them because it might contain spoilers and I don't do that. Sorry! I loved the story and will highly recommend this book to anyone who asks!!

This is an honest voluntary review after receiving a free copy.

Look, I was in the mood for a light, kinda-steamy quick read before I jumped into something else. For some reason, I didn't particularly care for this one. It was quick-paced and steamy, for sure, but it wasn't for me, I guess.

Every romance novel has a moment where the main character and the love interest have a fight, and this one was no exception. But the reasoning for the fight made no sense. Thank goodness for the best friend talking sense into Indy. But Indy was upset because the guy had a personal issue at work and didn't talk to her about it. Yes, he should have told her after the fact, but she was upset because he didn't discuss it with her before making a decision. But... that was his decision. It didn't really have anything to do with her, she was just kinda caught in the crossfire.

Indy kept bringing up how she was attracted to Alpha males but didn't particularly like how they acted, and though she would mention it to Cal or touch on it in her mind, there wasn't anything else that was addressed. She didn't clarify what her deal with Alpha males was, she didn't tell him to stop/mention something she didn't particularly like, etc.

There was also a large glob of feminism. It read like mostly a romance but also Intro to Feminism 101 for Men and the Uneducated. If that's your cup of tea, that's your cup of tea.

I guess I was just looking for a little more depth to the plot and the characters. But most everything was less than skin-deep and predictable, and a little boring, if I'm honest.

At least the beginning plot to get the two together/meet-cute was nice and fun.

This was my first book by this author and definitely will not be my last. I really enjoyed this book and I loved Indy and Cal, they were fun, sexy, their chemistry was more than hot and will melt your kindle. Indy has hit a dry spell and joined a dating app to meet someone, but the guy she met won’t give her his number and when he finally does, well, lets just say it’s the wrong number. Oh how a wrong number could turn out to be so perfect. Some sexy, dirty texts to the number she was given, finding out he’s not who she thought he was, but was intrigued by his responses. When these two meet, it’s a one time thing, nothing more, but when he rocks her world all she thinks about is him. Little does she know that he’s going to be a big part of her life in the near future. OMG I could keep going, but I don’t want to spoil this for anyone. Indy and Cal are explosive and you will not be disappointed! I received a copy of this book.

Just what I needed to help me through my recent slump.
Nice engaging story, no real ow/om drama.
I would call this a pallet cleanser, after reading so much heavy stuff lately, I needed something light but could still pull me into the story.
J/p H without being an ass which is always a plus and hard to find lately, a likeable h (also hard to find recently).
Doesn’t say in the blurb but this is an office romance, normally I find these can be tedious as the premise is they need to keep it a secret so the h doesn’t lose her job or people think she is sleeping her way to the top (why is it always the h who is being shamed 😡). We don’t get that with this book, while they do keep it on the down low, it’s not the focus of the book.
Well written, some cute funny moments and definitely quite a few steamy scenes.
Would have loved a longer epilogue into the future, as I like to see my leading couples years down the line and how life panned out.

Will be reading more from this author in the future

I really liked the concept of this and at first it was really good but then… yeah it went down hill.

The main character was just immature and “oh I’m a feminist, you can’t tell me what to do ect” and the main love interest did not do any work honeslty.

I feel like a lot of gaps were missing. Like one of the storylines were catching his brother (who is married and went on some dates with the main character) and then nothing happened… then right at the end they had a talk and yeah? That was it.

And the main storyline was trying to get a guy fired for being homophobic, racist and sexist in the work place… nothing happened to him.. he moved to a different company and even got a raise because his father in law was the main ceo? And they just ignored that? Moved on? Yeah it didn’t sit right with me at all.

Like I said I really did like the concept of the office romance and then meeting before and the chemistry but yeah it was not written well at all.

I loved it! This sweet piece of candy run out way too fast and I couldn't get enough!
Indy, short for Lucinda Scott, runned into a sex dry spell. In order to receive "the cure" for it and encouraged by her best friend Leslie over drinks, she asks the guy she was dating through an app his phone number. Little did she know that he'd give her a wrong number or that the owner of said number would meet her sexy message heads on. The plot thickens further the next monday when they find out that he, Call(short for Nicholas Callan), the good looking stranger who she burned her sheets with that weekend, would be her new boss.
The story is hot, hot, hot from the beginning to the end, for the two of them don't lack chemistry or imagination. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
I read an ARC copy of this standalone novel in exchange of a honest review.

The ultimate bravery or the utmost stupidity? When a sexy, demanding text is sent to the wrong number, will inner desires be fulfilled or will passion be denied? For Indy, the chance to be dangerous is encouraged by her best friend. Her first interaction with Cal just indicates the kind of tempestuous nature that is hidden behind her eyes. "Me: I need you to come over. I want to feel you inside me. Him: Who is this? Me: Indy. Who’s this? Him: Wrong number. Me: Oh crap. I’m sorry.
Him: I’m not. What’s your address?" Will Indy's taking a chance on the unknown work out in her favour, or will disaster strike?

This new book from R.L. Kenderson starts out “wrong” (wink wink) and ends up so right. Great chemistry between Indy and Cal and her saucy friend Leslie (who cracks me up constantly) makes this book a definite re-read. Indy has been using an app to date Joel. She tells him its time to meet up and and ask for his real phone so she can text him. He sends her his number and it turns out to be Cal’s number. I won’t ruin anything about this but it wasn’t an accidentally typo. Cal turns out to be Indy’s new boss. MMMM MMMM MMM do they have a few good meetings. This book has heat, comedy, great friendships, great characters and very HEA. I loved the story line with Joel too. You will truly enjoy this new book. And, side note....I love her reasonings for why she is still in her same job. It is exactly what I say to my bosses.

After a few drinks Indy is convinced by her best friend to contact the guy she has been messaging through a dating app and get his number however the only problem is that it isn’t the right number but it might just be the best mistake she ever made.

Cal is intrigued by the sexy texts he is getting from a stranger which leads to a steamy evening, but they are both in for a surprise when he turns out to be her new boss. Let the fun begin!

Their journey is filled with heat, humor and some twists you don’t see coming.

This book was a light quick read with some well written sex scenes! There were a couple of serious topics addressed in the book but nothing too heavy. I also had some laugh out loud moments as well. I don’t want to give anything away for those that haven’t read it but I do appreciate that it was not predictable- there were a few twists that I didn’t see coming from the very beginning of the book. Cal is a perfect alpha and I think we can all relate to Indy in some ways! It was my first time reading something by this author and I will definitely be checking out their other books!

This was a short, sexy read with a bit of humor thrown in. Indie is a woman in a dating dry spell that resorts to a dating app for companionship. One night of drunken bravery has her texting a guy that she has been on a few dates with to come over for a booty call. However, this ends up being a wrong number and things get a bit weird (in my opinion) and Indie invites a random stranger named Cal to her house for a hook-up. Indie and Cal are great together, but things get even more complicated for them in the future. I do not want to give too much away, but I was not too crazy about the direction that things went. I enjoyed the interaction between the main characters and the ending; so all is well that ends well :)

This book will have you laughing mere pages in!! The ease of friendship between Indy and her best friend, the intrigue of finally texting the guy you met on a dating website and had a couple of dates with, only to find out he gave you a wrong number and yet the sizzle between strangers texting and the attraction upon meeting. Maybe that wrong number was fate stepping in...
Was a book I could not set down until I finished it.

A dating app to get over a dry spell. An attempted hook up turned embarrassing by calling the wrong number ... which then turns so right. R.L. Kenderson is back in grand style, and Indy and Cal‘s romance in Wrong Number? Perfect fun. Highly recommended, too.

I loved this book from the very beginning. If you love office romances and destined hookups this book is for you. Indy dials the wrong number and steps out on a limb and connects with Cal who gives her more than what she was looking for. Then add in a little office drama and a best friend who loves to make Indy step out of her box and you have a book that brings the hot sex scenes and laughter.

This was a good read. Indy has been talking to a guy on this app. He ends up sending her the wrong number. She ends up meeting Cal instead. Things get complicated when she finds out he is her new boss. There is some drama with their workplace. However, everything works out in the end and they get their happy ending.

Indy met Joel on a dating app. They have gone on 3 dates and Indy is ready to spice things up, so she asks for his phone number so they can move off the app. With newly acquired phone number, Indy sends a somewhat spicy text. And she gets a response…only it isn’t Joel. The gentleman, “Cal,” is willing to meet up with Indy for a one-night stand. So, after one fun filled night they go their separate ways. Until Monday morning when their paths cross…turns out “Cal” now works at the same company as Indy.

I wasn't a fan, though it was a quick read. The storyline initially sounded appealing but the book was lacking depth and detail and didn't seem at all realistic as a result. Overall, I didn't like the characters.

It felt more like a teenager wrote it with chiche after chiche throughout. I read it and was thinking, "seriously? Or really?" with an eye roll way too often. It also seemed like they were trying to fit too many big events in the book.

This review contains spoilers after this section.

*********************************************

Indy meets a guy, Joel, online, goes out on 3 dates, asks for his number, and is given someone else's number. Turns out it was no mistake.

So she hooks up with the wrong number guy. Indy is 31 years old hooking up with a 38 years old, Cal. Turns out he's her new office boss come Monday morning. Very cliche. Then of course they have the office attraction and inappropriate relationship in the office. I will say the sex scenes are nice, though short.

Indy's BFF works there too and they seem to have more of a sorority girl, "omg you're such a bitch" hair flick attitude throughout the book. Again, are we in high school here or in our 30s working on a career?

So then there's Indy's supervisor, Patrick, who is anti women in the workplace. And anti gays/blacks but is the son of the CEO of the company or something so basically can get away with it and have no recourse. Again, cliche. And Cal, being the new boss in the office (at 38) coming from a job in NY has no idea the inequalities women deal with.... What?! Does he live under a rock?? He's 38! It's a fact of life! How you could come from NY and not realize that is baffling.

So Cal tried to get Patrick in trouble (ethics and all) which is great, but backfired because Patrick had pictures of Cal and Indy kissing. Which was fine, because Cal wasn't direct supervisor. So Cal quit so he didn't have to fire Indy because the head office decided to promote her to end the relationship. So noble. She didn't want the job. Had it for a couple weeks. Told headquarters it wasn't working out. And they gave her back her old job. Really?? And she stayed? And worked for a company like that you ask? Yep. She sure did! And all worked out with Cal.

Not terrible. Right? Well, add on to this that their relationship was quick and done via text for a lot of things... So while all the work stuff was going on, Cal's mom was also calling and wanting to meet Indy. Because she got word of a new gf and just had to meet her. So he's on the phone with mom at the office and texting Indy, who's also at work, if she's ok with meeting his family. And not just the mom but the siblings and spouses and nieces and such. Their relationship was still pretty fresh at this point. But let's go jump in and meet mom and family. Really?

So she meets the mom. And the family and the spouses and kids. And that internet guy she got the number from? Yep, you guessed it! Cal's brother! Who was married with two kids! Seriously? So Indy and Cal go home and she tells him about his brother Joel and him giving out Cal's number. And her dating him but he only ever pecked her for kisses. Cal, upset, decides to catch/catfish his brother using Indy's BFFs pictures of course. So he meets Joel, his brother, and plays shrink and basically tells him to either stop cheating and get counseling and tell his wife and get counseling with her, or to leave her.

So let's see... in not 100% order here.... But we have...
1. sex with stranger turned long term,
2. harassment in the work place with a 38 year old who can't believe women aren't equals in the office,
3. his loss of job from revenge for an ethics case against him,
4. bff's acting like teenagers in a sorority when they're in their 30s,
5. meeting mom and the extended family,
6. Finding out the internet guy Joel was Cal's brother,
7. Cal confronting Joel about his cheating,
8. Indy got promoted to a job she didn't want because it would end her relationship with Cal as it'd be a violation,
9. Indy resigns from the supervisory job but they still give her back her old job "since she didn't apply for the supervisory one",
10. Patrick just moving back to headquarters with no real punishment because of who his daddy is (probably the most believable story line in there). But let's be real, if he was actually as bad as he was in real life, the there would be lawsuits from all the women and there'd be payouts. I mean, that's the only thing missing from this book of too many major events in such a short book.

There are so many better books to read out there. This was my first book by the authors. I may check out another one just to see if it's as disappointing, or if this is a one off but I definitely wouldn't recommend this one.
