Dylan Mathers is a complication I don't need in my life.

Star of the football team, popular man on campus, hot as hell...and he's my best friend. Or at least, that's what we're telling everyone.

As hard as I try, I can't deny the connection we have. I'm desperate to discover all his thoughts and secrets and even want to tell him mine. Mostly. If it didn't mean risking everything I've tried hard to protect. After avoiding relationships for years, I'm suddenly finding it hard to remember why.

I thought I knew our truth. I thought my heart was safe. I was wrong. There's so much more to our story. And it turns out, I'm not the only one with demons.

We should have known better...

The past always catches up with you.

You know how sometimes you get so lost in a book that you look up after a couple of hours and realize you’ve just been living in that book so completely you have no idea what is going on around you? That happened to me during this read.

Summer is beautiful but guarded. She’s here for a good time but never lets anything get deep. She’s carrying heavy burdens from her childhood.

Dylan is a serial dater. He’s committed to whoever he’s with and his goal is his future family. He never looks twice at someone he isn’t dating, until he meets Summer. He’s desperate to have her in his life even if it’s just as “best friends since forever.”

Dylan and Summer are friendship goals. Their games, their chemistry, their relationship, their inside jokes. Sumer jumping into Dylan’s arms. I’m swooning.

This story is deep and emotional and so wonderful.

I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face for most of the book. Except when I was crying, because that happened too.

Katherine knocked this debut out do the park. I loved this book so much. Please go read it!

Wow! What a debut novel! And from an Aussie author too!

Katherine is the sweetest person on Instagram & I was more than excited when she announced she was selling signed editions of her new debut! My friends & I grabbed his debut as well as the novella sidelong to this story (which I shall jump into ASAP), & did a read along together of this new adult romance.

This is new adult / college romance / friends to lovers / sports romance (football).

Summer has grown up in a tough childhood, which lead her living with her best friend at age 16. Fortunately, her best friend's family took her in like one of their own & gave her the home she was searching for all her life. She is grateful for them & is even more grateful she gets to attend college with her best friend / step sister; Quinn.

Dylan grew up with a father who was a pro in football, so meant he was not around much. He also was lucky enough to have a mum & older sister he was both very close too. When his dad retires from pro football to be a full time dad when Dylan is 12, unfortunately this dream dad life was ruined by a car accident which resulted in Dylan losing his dad. From his upbringing experience, he vowed never to be a pro in football but to always be there instead for his family so he didn't miss any of those important parts his father missed out on.

Dylan & Summer meet at a college party where Summer pretends to be Dylan's "best friend" to get all the girls off his back as Dylan has a girlfriend. What she wasn't counting on was Dylan & herself having not just a physical connection, but an emotional connection. Even though Dylan has a girlfriend, Summer finds herself not being able to stop thinking about him. In which Dylan also feels the same. So what happens when Dylan ends said relationship?

With Dylan being a relationship man & Summer not truly believing in love, they decide to keep just being friends. But with lustful feelings for each other, the friendship lines do tend to get mixed. Which causes a lot of back & forth between the two characters while they try to not just grow as one another but also grow together & not lose that amazing friendship they have developed.

I did enjoy this story. I do love a good friends to lovers & it was clear they had an amazing friendship. But I did need more of them together as a couple. I did find it was a bit of a slow burn in the way of them actually doing anything or making a move. A lot of back & forth which I found frustrating (personally am not a fan of slow burn). BUT as a debut novel, the writing was superb. I would just recommend perhaps a bit more editing to get rid of those dragged out dialogues that were not needed.

Overall, 4/5 stars with 2/5 steam.

Friends to Lovers yes please. EVERYTIME!!! ❤️

Dylan and Summer are no exception. The story line behind this book was so good to grasp and follow it through. I read this book in a matter of hours. I could not get enough. Every page made me want to get to the next. Summer is your guarded kind of girl while Dylan is your commitment free but loyal kind of guy. Dylan is my GUY. He wears his heart on his sleeve with Summer and doesn’t care to deny it. He's so loyal that it makes you want to love the guy immediately and we know from the start that Summer is guarded for a reason and that makes it more of a reason for wanting to fly through reading the book.

Katherine I was not lying when I said you are one of my favorite writers now.

(I received an ARC for this book)

Trigger Warnings include:
child abuse (on & off page), death of a parent (off page)

Summer and Dylan’s story starts with a heartbreaking “once upon a time”. And we definitely go on an adventure on the way to their happily ever after! Even now, a week after finishing the book, my heart still gets all swoony and the butterflies come alive again thinking about them. Dylan isn’t your typical jock. He’s a serious relationship kinda guy. He’s trustworthy, he’s an attentive friend. In more ways that Summer will ever admit to, she’s a tad bit like a damsel in distress. Not that she wants someone to save her (lord knows she’d never allow that!). But without her really realizing it, she needs the help she avoids. She needs that someone to stay by her side. Someone who will never stand in front of her. Someone who will always stand with her. And you’ll never guess who that someone is?! Our favorite serial dater will stop at nothing to convert Summer from a one-timer to settling down. He helps her see what she’s missing out on having someone completely and totally devoted to her. This is SO much more than just a college romance! But even with all the heavy growing pains and heartbreak, I giggled the entire book! I loved every bit of Summer and Dylan’s banter. I loved revisiting Nate and Corey again! And I LOVED having time with Joel. I can’t wait for more of Joel. (I can never have enough time with Joel!)

My Favorite Quotes:
• “Keep wriggling like that and you’re going to have to finish what you’ve started.”
• “You’re by far the most special someone I know.”
• “You seem to mistakenly think it’s a hardship to care for you. Trust me, it’s not.”
• “This is my favorite memory. Or at least, it will be, the second after I drop you home.”
• “This isn’t how I wanted to do this, but f!ck, I need you.”
• “I just want you here.”
• “I really want to kiss you right now.”
• “I’ve got you. I’ll always have you.”
• “You. Are. Beautiful. Every part of you is beautiful.”
• “When you hurt, I hurt.”
• “You are perfect to me. Everything about you is perfect for me.”
• “You’re all that I see.”

When Nothing Else Matters

I was so incredibly impressed at the journey this book took me on. I can absolutely say that both books so far in the Heartstrings series are beyond🙌🏻🙌🏻 The series is a debut from @katherinejayauthor and it makes these books even more amazing! I just loved these characters and their story so much🫶🏻

Summer is a beautiful girl who doesn’t feel nor know her worth. She uses men to fill an emotional void and doesn’t allow herself to get in too deep or catch feelings. Past trauma and family turmoil has caused her to lose herself internally while on the outside showing a confident facade to the world.

Dylan is a confident, serial relationship whore who is a stud on the football field. He doesn’t do one night stands, but he does relationships and is never single. Due to his past, as well as, hopes and dreams for the future he puts himself in positions with women that cause him to get scared and run at the “I love you” stage and hop to a new girl.

Dylan and Summer are two broken people that carry guilt, shame, and issues that allow neither of them to discover all that love has to offer. They meet and both have an instant attraction but don’t allow each other to act on it. Summer doesn’t want to “one night stand” Dylan and Dylan has a girlfriend. They decide that they will be “best friends” and that is what they become.

We see walls start to come down, the friendship start to deepen and love start to form (however neither would admit). This was such a beautiful story of these two people finding their person and realizing that they are worthy of a forever type of epic love. I don’t want to give too many details because the journey is what made the book for me.

I fell in love with Dylan (we are talking Noah Riley swoon material) and Summer is a badass whose strength is admired.

There is just something about these College Romances that are so special and the relationships impact me so deeply. This is a very special book and very special couple. Also let me tell you….Dylan is the King of utilizing a wall…IYKYK🫶🏻

*I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review*

“Dylan Mathers is a very attractive guy, Dylan the football player is mouthwateringly hot, but Dylan the singer…ugh, he’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen.”

I loved Dylan and Summer’s story. Watching their relationship from beginning to end was so much fun. I laughed with them. I “remembered when” with them. And I cried with them. I was pulled in from the prologue, and definitely had that “just one more chapter” moment until suddenly it was 3am, and I had finished the book.

Dylan and Summer were broken in their own ways. Carrying the weight of guilt and depression alone for things that honestly weren’t their faults. Neither really opened up fully about how they were feeling or what they were internally going through. That is until they met each other and built a friendship that neither realized they needed. Of course, as their connection grew in depth, their feelings also grew. And then Dylan and Summer have to decide if taking the chance on love was worth risking this friendship that they realized they couldn’t survive without.

If you love a friends-to-lovers romance involving two hurting souls that begin to heal upon finding each other, When Nothing Else Matters should be your next read.

All I can say is what a debut novel by Katherine Jay! I loved this book so much and just devoured it as I read this book in a matter of hours and could not get enough! It was such a fun and heartfelt story, that just takes you on a wonderful journey. Dylan was the absolute sweetest (we are talking top book boyfriend material) and Summer was such a fun and dynamic character, that her journey was really unexpected...loved their meet cute and jus their whole dynamic and their banter together was perfection. This book has a little bit of everything, little bit of sports, some angst, lots of laughs, and amazing secondary characters (hoping we get a Logan book!). Also Katherine is my kindred spirit with all her 90's references, so fun to find them throughout the book!

Loved Joel so much in this book, and am excited to read his and Delilah's story in Still Here Without You!

Loved this book!

It had a lot, friendships good banter, angst, drama, love.

Summer the FMC is not good with emotions. With a fucked up past, she was told that she would never be good enough for anyone. So she would settle with one night stands and move on, never wanting to go beyond a one night stand and get to know any of the guys.

Dylan the MMC hasn’t realized it yet but he is a serial dater. He loves being in relationships and does not like and would not participate in one night stands. He wears his heart on his sleeve, well kinda. He’s picky about finding the right woman and most of his relationships don’t last longer than 6 months or maybe more. He’s never told anyone he loves them so he does have that in common with Summer.

Dylan doesn’t remember seeing Summer in the past but she never forgot about him and was shocked to see him again at a house party in college. He’s in a relationship at the time and she notices girls still trying to flirt with him so she pretends to be his best friend to get him out of that sticky situation but then the lies start to roll in. They make up fake memories of their childhood and I thought that was hilarious. It was all good fun and it made Dylan’s gf believe it all.

The more Dylan saw summer which at first wasn’t often, he actually doesn’t see her for a month after the house party. He sees her when his friends go camping and one of them is dating her close friend Cory. After an almost kiss while camping, Dylan realized he’s got some feelings for summer but will settle for friendship for now so he decides it’s best to dump his gf and he does.

Throughout the book I did get annoyed with Summer constantly pushing Dylan in the friend zone and also pulling him out of the friend zone only to put him back lol. There were times they’d kiss and get hot and heavy but it leaves them both confused because they don’t communicate what they want because they’re scared to push the other and lose the close friendship they now have. BUT Dylan never gives up trying to be with Summer and goes at her pace and is patient with her hoping she’ll come around and want more.

There’s a twist near the end that really had me in tears. It made me hurt for Summer and Dylan for the trauma they both experienced in the past but mostly for Summer. You realize she’s such a strong woman and really in need for someone to truly see her and love her with her scars inside and out. She lucked out with Dylan. He loves her, flaws and all.

This book gave me all the feels. I was hooked really quickly, Summer and Dylan were incredibe and I didn't want the book to end.

💖 Summer & Dylan 💖
The serial dater meets the "only casual hock ups" girl. They pretend to be best friends and come up with hilarious childhood memories. Their chemistry is off the charts and they both throw each other off balance. It awesome to watch especially with Dylan.
Their HEA is not an easy one and they both have baggage and experienced trauma. The story is deep and emotional, beautiful and heartbreaking.

I totally recommend for everyone to read this book. Katherine Jay is an indie author from Australia and "when nothing else matters" is just the start of the series. Yes, there is more to come 💖💖💖

This book had me hooked right from the start. Right away I wanted to know more about Dylan, Summer, and how their lives might intertwine. This was a twisty, angsty ride that left me constantly rooting for Summer and Dylan and occasionally wanting to reach into the book and smack them until they saw what the reader knew to be true from the start. Katherine did an amazing job of weaving all the little pieces of this plot together to create a beautiful and complicated romance that led to me bingeing through the last hundred pages because I simply had to know how it turned out. It's a book that has ingrained itself in my mind, and I will definitely be coming back for a re-read. Highly recommend!

What a debut?!I stumbled across Katherine Jay on Instagram a few days before the release date of When Nothing Else Matters and I'm absolutely delighted.

Story:
We accompany Dylan and Summer during their college years. They meet at a party and pretend to be best friends so that Dylan, who is in a relationship, won't be harass by women any more. From this little joke to get rid of the flirts a great friendship develops. They spend a lot of time together, adding Joel (Dylan's roommate and BFF), Corey (Summer's BFF and roommate) and Nate (Corey's boyfriend) to create a fun and dynamic group - I totally fall in love with ❤. When Dylan realizes he feels more than friendship for Summer, he tries to convince her that getting involved in a relationship isn't necessarily a bad thing and tries to break down her wall. Both do incredibly well on this path from friendship to love and help each other to process things from the past. 🥰

“You seem to mistakenly think it’s a hardship to care for you. Trust me, it’s not.”

Dylan isn't the typical college football star you'd expect. He is not a playboy he loves being in a relationship (serial-dater) and is loyal to his girlfriend. He loves the tingling feeling when you slowly fall in love but have never really been in love himself. He's a college football player but doesn't want to go pro for reasons we'll learn throughout the story. He is accompanied by a deep guilt from his youth, which he still cannot let go of today.
Summer, on the other hand, thinks she doesn't deserve to be loved or that many people deserve something better than her and therefore only gets involved in one-night stands. In her childhood and teen-years she experienced a lot that she has never really been able to process to this day. Her relationship with her family is beyond bad, which is why she only opens up to Corey and keeps the charade going for everyone else.

“I’ve got you. I’ll always have you.”

I'm not a huge fan of the friends-to-lovers trope🙈, but when it's well written it can be really fun, and Katherine did that here. I went through so many emotions while reading. And at a certain point towards the end of the book I had to let a couple of tears run free. Of course there were the classic moments when things just went wrong, but they didn't drag on unnecessarily or were quickly clarified by a conversation 😘 -yes they talked, which I found very good.

Rating: 4,5 ⭐
🌶: 1/5

I grabbed Ain't No Sunshine the very next day to read the novella about Corey and Nate. And I'm really looking forward to what's to come because Katherine is planning more books for some of her supporting characters (see bonus epilogue). 🤗🤩

When I started this book, I was not expecting it to be what it was. I thought it was going to be a cutesy college love story, and while it was that, this book was absolutely breathtaking in its simplicity. The evolution of the two main characters feels authentic. There is talk of abuse, death, and family issues in this book but I liked how the author wrote about them. Unfortunately those things do happen and the way they were written felt realistic and not overly exaggerated. I did not want the story to end but love how it did. This book felt like a warm hug when you need it most, it felt like the best day with my friends, it felt like a celebration with family, it felt like a rainstorm in the sun. When I read that it was the debut novel for Katherine Jay, I nearly fell out of my seat. It reads so wonderfully.

Summer sees Dylan at a party and walks up to him to see if he can introduce her best friend to his friend and fellow teammate. What transpires from that meet up is a hilarious fake best friendship. It was supposed to be for one night only but then it spirals until they both realize that they are actual best friends. She is such a bubbly person, despite what happened in her past. Summer is known for not getting into relationships and keeping things casual. She has her reasons for that. Will Dylan be the one she breaks her own rule for? Will he agree when he learns her secrets?

Dylan witnessed a pretty traumatic thing when he was a kid that also led to an event that changed his family. He still feels guilt over it. When he sees Summer at the party, he feels drawn to her. The fake best friendship is born. He has a girlfriend when he meets Summer so a fake friendship is all it could be. Except it becomes a real one. Dylan's male best friend points out that while Dylan doesn't mess around, he is a serial dater until it starts to become serious. Will Summer be the one he sticks it out long term for?

Will they be able to work through their demons as a team, or will it break them apart forever?.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

i read katherine’s debut novella, ain’t no sunshine at the start of april (cory & nate’s story). ever since i’ve been so excited to read all about dylan and summer!!

a college, insta-love, spicy sports romance. sorry but dylan trying to convince himself and everyone else that he only likes summer as a friend — hilarious🤣 the banter in this book was amazing, summer and dylan’s game of fake memories and the banter between the boys!! i love a romance book with a bit of humour thrown in there🤩.

dual pov (which i LOVE), summer is a bit of a commitment-phobe, whereas dylan is the opposite — he’s only ever been in relationships.. dylan is super patient with summer, it’s obvious to everyone expect them that they’re perfect for each other🥹 i did want to reach inside the book and clunk their heads together, knock some sense into them both to just be together already🥲🥲 their chemistry was undeniable, i could feel the sparks while reading. i really did swoon over dylan mathers, i mean who wouldn’t?! super sweet guy, attentive, sporty, fit🥵🔥 we love sweet but OMG PROTECTIVE DYLAN😮‍💨🫠🔥 IS IT HOT IN HERE?!🤪

there is a reason summer is the way she is, and my heart completely broke for her. it’s not explicit at all in it’s reveal, and happens off the page but please check trigger warnings just incase — katherine writes it in such a sensitive way.

if you like friends to lovers, new adult, college sports romance with a bit of angst, you’re going to LOVE this!🥰 i fell in love with the main characters and all the side characters🥹 this story really comes full circle as it breaks and mends my heart all at the same time🥲 the ending was like twist after twist, that’s a lot of info in a short amount of time🤯🤯 the epilogue actually melted my heart, it was just so perfect🥰💗

can’t wait for katherine’s next release, i’m no sure who’s book is coming next but i’m so EXCITED for joel’s book! he seems like a bit of me🥵🔥

If you’re like me and love romance, a little bit of sports thrown in, and complications…you’ll absolutely love this book! Thank you SO much to Katherine Jay for trusting me with this ARC. The story gripped me right from the start, and I will say, pay attention at the beginning.

Dylan is a football star, goes through girlfriends, and is completely popular on campus…but he’s also harboring a lot of guilt. He also doesn’t really know what he wants to do, because a pro-football career is out of the question, even though he’s the best of the best.

Summer doesn’t do football, or relationships. One night stands? Absolutely! What happens though when Summer runs into Dylan at a party, and they start reminiscing about “the good old days” even when there aren’t any? A lot!

These two pretend that all they have is friendship, and a past with each other. We meet a good number of their friends. We have Cory - Summer’s absolute best friend, who dates Nate. Nate’s also a football player and has gone through his own things (and we have a Novella available to read more about these two). Joel is Dylan’s roommate and best friend, and a bit of a player, but also completely in at least lust with one person. Logan is another really good friend for Summer, and he has a lot more he could unpack than what we’re given in this book. How do they all play into Summer and Dylan’s non-relationship though? They see everything, and I mean everything.

I loved the romantic aspect of this book, along with all the trepidations both Summer and Dylan had on building a relationship. I enjoyed getting to see it from both points of view, and knowing what some of their inner turmoil was. It was fun getting to know both of them, and in a sense, figuring out their pasts. I can’t wait until the next book is ready!

Ok, this book has no business being this GOOD.

Summer is a beautiful mess. At the age of 16 she was kicked out by her parents (this isn’t the entire story, of course) and went to live with her best friend Cory and her family. Now she’s in college and living in an apartment with Cory. She doesn’t think she deserves love and that the person who is interested in her always deserves better than her. She’s been taught that she’s not worthy, so naturally she believes she is unworthy of love and being with someone. Until she meets Dylan. Although she knew him as a friend of her older brother’s in high school and also playing college football— they never talked or really knew one another until now.

Dylan battles his demons on a daily basis. After the loss of his father a few years back, he is currently living with the guilt and blaming himself for his father’s sudden death. He’s a serial dater, but never wants to settle down with the girls he dates. When he sees Summer and actually meets her, it’s very playful and they become friends. But Dylan finds himself wanting more and having to fight to get Summer to realize that she’s worthy of these feelings and worthy to be in a real relationship with someone to care about her the way she deserves. He doesn’t give up. The chase is SO GOOD.

Their stories are so intertwined and it will keep you hanging on!
•Strangers to FAKE friends to friends to lovers (you’ll have to read the book to understand that trope)
•Friend’s little sister
•Forbidden love (well Summer’s older brother forbids anyone to even look at his little sister)
•Slow burn
•HEA

What a story this was!

Honestly, we are taken on a rollercoaster of emotions seeing serial dater Dylan and his new/old best friend Summer who will openly admit that she isn’t t looking for a relationship try and make everyone even themselves believe that they are ‘just friends’.

Dylan is the hot football star with a hero complex and a history that is haunting him making him question himself when it comes to his future, everything is turned upside down when he locks eyes with the beautiful and out of bounds Summer who has to be Nsync’s number 1 fan. These 2 have an instant connection but with how they meet and are thrown together they have no other option but to keep up the façade that they are friends.

The banter between Dylan and Summer is brilliant they bounce off each other so we’ll that it is easy for them to keep up appearances as best friends, Dylan most definitely falls first and when his possessive side comes out he is no longer the cute and cheeky lad he is full on Alpha, mix that with his athletic body, beautiful face and the fact that he can sing he is the full package.

The angst with the constant change in emotions from these 2 we are constantly guessing will they wont they when they. And the ultimate twist at the end, I was not expecting, so well done Katherine for keeping me guessing. We get a dual POV and I honestly didn’t want this story to end, this world and the characters is definitely one I could get lost in. Thank you for allowing me to read this early I’m so excited to immerse myself into this world again with your next book.

"When Nothing Else Matters" is the first book in the Heartstrings Series by Katherine Jay. Named after the famous Metallica song, this amazing book introduces so many great characters that I had a very hard time choosing my favourite! The main story revolves around Dylan and Summer; he is one of the stars of his college football team and she promised her brother to stay away from his teammates! He is a serial dater and she’s a one-night stand only kind of girl. We know fate is a fickle bitch, yet they can’t seem to shake off the déjà vu feeling when they meet… Are they destined to be with each other or is there something darker trying to keep them apart?
Every good book starts out with a little mystery, and this one is AMAZING! I was hooked right from the start, and I felt this insane need to devour the book. I love books with dual points of view, and this one really took advantage of that. When Dylan is at another party without Gemma (his current girlfriend) and being hounded by every single girl, Summer decides to save our hero in distress… Their fake friendship and the memories they come up with are some of the funniest things I read this year. And reluctance they both had to accept their feelings (for different reasons) made their fall so much sweeter. The spice level of this book what definitely on point, and it will not leave you disappointed (that’s for damn sure!). The secondary characters brought so much more to this story, and I can’t wait to read more about this wonderful world that Katherine Jay shared with us.

I was given this as an advanced copy for an honest review.

The prologue hooked me into this book and I was invested until the very last page.

Summer and Dylan deserved their happy ending. While reading this I felt their connection but at the same time, I felt their hesitation to ruin their friendship. Now while it wasn't the normal start to their friendship it was still a friendship based on a hilarious encounter. Their banter and made-up stories topped the sweet vanilla cake. (Vanilla is my favorite)

Summer darling I just can't imagine the anguish of your situation and the courage you had to continue. Did I feel the book drug out her reasons for being and feeling the way she did? Yes but that is simply my opinion. I will say how thankful I am that she did have Cory by her side.

Dylan well you were a hot mess at times but it made your character more likable. Serial dater? I'm not sure I agree simply because he just wanted love but he did look in the wrong places. He was the friend you always wish you had.

Mrs. Jay putting their inner thoughts in this book was great because I simply found their thinking hilarious at times but it always helped me understand their feelings much better.

That twist you tossed in there I didn't see that coming. I tried to guess and I did get a smidge of it right but I didn't get it completely correct. I can't wait to read the other character's books.

This is a debut book from an Aussie author it is definitely a slow burn, friends to lovers romance.

These two characters both have a bit of a traumatic past, they are trying to over come individually.

Dylan lost his father at young age and Summer lost her whole family due to a lie. They’ve been abandoned and are plagued with guilt but together they start to heal each other. Learn to love themselves, accept that the past can not be changed, learn to move on and start living their best life.

This was an enjoyable story and pretty good book for a debut.

3.75 stars.

The reason for my rating is because I personally am not that much of a fan of slow burns and I feel like this is a serious one. I also found the back and forth, hot and cold to become a little too much. I would have loved to see them more as a couple.

This is my own honest opinion, I’m also a mood reader so this review could completely change in the future.

This is a friends to lovers sports romance, and I was loving the *fake* best friends segments - can I just say the fake best friend banter was top notch!

My favourite part in books is when we get to the part that makes us understand where the title comes from. In this case I got to dive back into my Metallica era and that is something that I am still buzzing about. (Cue spotify on repeat).

The female main character has childhood trauma - her way of (not) dealing with it is refusing to be close to a man. No strings attached.

The male main character is the opposite. He is happiest when in a relationship.

Both of them are ridiculously sweet and this read is super cute. This is a stand alone but the other books focus on ither couples, and I already can't wait to read the other couples stories.

WNEM is Katherine’s debut novel and follows the story of Dylan and Summer, from dual POV, as they navigate their fake best friends turned lovers story.

It was so much fun to see how their relationship came to be and how it evolved into so much more as the story unfolded. That prologue perfectly set up the story and helped foreshadow what was later unravelled.

I loved the back and forth game they played of reminiscing fake childhood memories and the build up of tension between them.

And the side characters! Joel, Logan, Cory, Nate…I loved them all.

PINK WEDNESDAY BOOK REVIEW // WHEN NOTHING ELSE MATTERS

 🌟4.5/5
🌶️2/5

“We’ve been through so much, and I know he’s my end game.”

Dylan  is the sexy star of the football team. He doesn’t do one night stands, and is happiest when in a relationship. His past hinders him the level of commitment that occurs once “I love you” is said, so naturally he bails.

Summer is beautiful. She doesn’t see nor know her worth. She uses men to fill an emotional void, and is hell bent on NOT catching feelings. The complete opposite of Dylan.

Summer and Dylan meet at a party, where Summer pretends to be Dylan’s best friend to get other girls off his back since he has a girlfriend.

The last thing she or Dylan expected was not only a physical connection, but an emotional one too.

What happens when Dylan breaks up with his girlfriend? Will sparks fly for these two fake friends?

When your bestie @pageslovedbyali says read a book…you read the damn book!!!! And this one DID NOT disappoint!!

Two words : DYLAN (freakin’) MATHERS 🥵
I think I’m in love with him! He is the sweetest, most genuine book boyfriend EVER!

Both Summer & Dylan are fighting internal battles and have major scars from their pasts. I love how RAW and REAL this love story was – it was simple and beautiful and I am officially OBSESSED with Katherine Jay. I’m quite honestly shocked this was a debut novel!!!!

The dual pov in this one was PERFECT! The inner monologue felt like Dylan and Summer were talking directly to you. I loved how Dylan talked about his feelings for Summer…it’s rare for a man to be THAT in tune to his feelings, and it was breath of fresh air to witness.

I laughed, I cried, I smiled,  I swooned….When Nothing Else Matters had ME catching feelings, and I am SO HERE FOR IT!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

⭐️: 7/10
🌶️: 2/5
🥹: 1/5
🤣: 2,5/5

Tropes:
💞 Strangers to friends to lovers
💞 He falls first
💞 College

Such a great book. I loved Dylan and Summer’s story! It was heartfelt, angsty and emotional. This was a new-to-me author and I have to say, I loved her writing. Her characters are all endearing and lovable. I loved the side characters too. All of them provided comic relief and humor to their friendship group and helped both Dylan and Summer through some tough days. Especially Nate, Cory and Joel- they were my favorites. What a great read! Just what I needed, something a little lighthearted after my last heavy and gut-punching story. This helped me get out of my funk.

I can’t wait for Joel and Delilah’s story.

Their story may be a bit messy but it’s theirs and I think it was perfect.

I honestly can’t even put into words how much I enjoyed this. It’s so emotional yet also lighthearted and funny. It makes you feel so much and really connect to both Summer and Dylan. I’m speechless.

I won’t lie, I was starting to get frustrated with Summer when her past finally came to light. Just wow… I have no words. I have so much respect for her.
