Men like this don't exist. Gorgeous, dark, angry, seductive...stone doesn't come to life and leave me wanting more. It's impossible.
Until it isn't.
My name is Christine Daniels, and I am going mad.
It was supposed to be simple: one month, one opera, one chance to make my entire career. But now I'm going crazy.
I was only here to sing, but nothing in Paris is what it seems, and the old opera house feels very much alive. Voices echo through walls, gargoyles come to life, and I’m dragged into a whole new world that I never knew existed.
A world of monsters.
By day they whisper through stone, and by night they make me theirs. Fangs and wings and claws that leave me aching with need. Pleasure that claims me over and over until I only belong to them.
But darker monsters than mine are hunting me. In order to punish my mates, they’ve decided they want me. And because I’m not made of stone, I might not survive.
Devyn Sinclair writes steamy Reverse Harem romances for your wildest fantasies. Every sexy story is packed with the right amount steam, fiery hot men, and delicious happy endings.
She lives in the wilds of Montana in a small red house with a crazy orange cat. When Devyn's not writing, she spends time outside in big sky country, continues her quest to find the best lemon pastry there is, drinks a lot of tea and buys too many books. (Of course!)
The Point of No Return was interesting. Definitely got some Phantom of the Opera vibes from it. I also liked the nice twist of Gargoyle reverse harem as well. I just... I don't know. It's hard to explain but the pacing felt off to me.
Not only that but the drama was kind of pointless. Yeah, Christine, is in an opera and there's one girl who doesn't like that she lost the part to her. The only thing she does it send information to tabloids though. Like that was her trying to get even with Christine. It just seemed weird and kind of dumb in my mind but maybe it makes sense to the Opera life? Not sure.
Then there's the romance. I liked it, I guess. I'm honestly still not completely sure how I felt about this little harem of hers. They had some pros and cons to it throughout the whole book. I am actually happy that they did figure out a way to break the weird curse on them. Even though I figured it out pretty early on.
In the end, it was an interesting book that had potential to be a bit better in my eyes.
I found this book on booktok so I had my apprehensions. But what the actual fuck did I just read. See, I know I like weird stuff to read. But this was on a whole another level. It was fucked up in too many ways to count.
Tropes and Kinks in this book: •reverse harem •monster •knotting •foursome •opera singer •have I mentioned knotting? •dub con •hunting kink (????)
And somehow I realised I liked way too many fucked up things than I thought.
2.75 stars | Sadly this read was very much a letdown. Phantom of the Opera is my favorite movie of all time so going into this I had VERY high expectations. Unfortunately it barely met any of them.
First of all close to nothing about the plot or the characters had any intriguing element to it. The whole book felt incredibly lust-filled. There wasn’t much tension between the characters. I really struggled to connect or relate to any aspect of this book. And this book has fantasy elements to it but there barely any world building. Not to mention the whole thing just dragged on and on. + Most of the writing just wasn’t my cup of tea.
I had wished there was more world building, plot and characters depth/development but there wasn’t. I didn’t hate this book overall but I just didn’t care for it all that much.

shut up this is a retelling of phantom of the opera and/or inspired by it this is def moving up on the tbr need to read this immediately omfg
I love how niche romance can be. A reverse harem Phantom of the Opera retelling with gargoyle MMCs either appeals to you or it doesn't. Obviously, it had my name all over it! It’s probably more accurate to say this was inspired by Phantom than a true retelling but the nods are there.
I had a hard time putting this down and I sure enjoyed the ride. This leans all the way into the fated mates trope, which doesn’t always work for me but it did here. Marius, Erik and Alexandre realize Christine is their mate when they scent her walking into the opera house for the first time while they’re on the roof. And she feels a connection in that moment too, although she has no idea why. She’s a romance reader so she adjusts to the reality of gargoyle lovers fairly easily once they tell her the truth about who they are. Story checks out. The suspense element had some plot holes and the pacing could be uneven but the world-building was interesting (stone energy!) and the opera house setting was put to good use.
The men were on the interchangeable side—they were created from the same stone so I guess that explains some of it but I wish they’d had more distinguishable personalities than just wanting to look after Christine. What did they do before she came into their life?! I wasn’t a fan of how overprotective and jealous they could be. Luckily, Christine was always able to advocate for herself and delineate how she wanted to be treated inside vs outside of the bedroom. This doesn’t have a realistic representation of BDSM and should be treated as fantasy. But there were some really hot scenes. A+ for the use of tails, the ability to shift into stone at will, and creating an underground forest just so your mate can live out her fantasy of being chased. The ending took me by surprise but it made complete sense given Christine’s emotional arc around her conflicted relationship with celebrity. There were some teases about her best friend Meg wanting a gargoyle of her own and I would definitely read that story.
This is a cishet white world, which is rather surprising for a theater/opera setting. There’s am excessive amount of ableist language, including an ableist slur. The degree slipped into casual ableism for me, especially Christine thinking she’s “crazy” when she first hears the gargoyles in her head or accusing the villain of being “insane”. It was a lazy, unfortunate writing choice in an otherwise enjoyable read.
Characters: Christine is a white American opera singer and ballerina. Marius is a white French gargoyle with penis and nipple piercings. Erik is a white French gargoyle with penis piercings. Alexandre is a white French gargoyle. The MMCs have been limited to the opera house for 200 years but it’s not clear how much older they are than that. This is set in Paris.
Content notes: , near-death experience (FMC almost falls off roof), kidnapping, murder, arson, physical assault, ableism (around mental health/illness), ableist slur , slut-shaming, unsafe sex practices (anal without lube), mating bite, on page sex, D/s, knotting, MFM menage (MMCs are not involved with each other), DP, blood play (claws), breath play, degradation play, primal play, tail sex, public sex, praise kink, sensory play, spanking, rimming, orgasm control, bondage, erotic dreams, slave terminology/fantasy, alcohol, gendered pejoratives, gender essentialist language, excessive ableist language, sex compared to addiction
HOW IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS BOOK?! JFC. First of all, I am a major slut for Phantom of the Opera, but, but I AM Pro Erik aka the Phantom of the Opera. That's why when I saw this book. I just knew I had to read it. Honestly, I thought there was one gargoyle....THERE WERE THREE?!! MISS MAAM. I was shookt.
I am in love with this book. No joke. The smut is GOD TIER! WARNING this book will cause you to grab the nearest man or nearest toy you have. I am not joking dude. I don't know how this woman survived these three!!! One loves to edge you, one omg he can fulfill the praise kink you've been actually looking for, and then the other omg jfc. Thoughts and prayers to your kitty kat miss maam. LOL He will F the demons out of you. Degrade you and omg all three of them combined. Like I said this would be the very definition of Death by O. HAHAH!
This is the hottest book I have ever read. Even if the smut is SO GOD TIER, I actually admire the plot in this book. It still kept me going so this book actually had the whole package. It gave me EVERYTHING I want and I needed. Now this is a monster romance and there will be tails and claws and biting soooo! Heads up. OOOF.
- Fated Mates - Why choose Romance - Monster romance duh - PLOT and SMUT 10/10 - Phantom of the opera with 3 stone daddies okay! - Primal play - Knotting - Praise and degrade me please HAHA!
Christine accepts the role of a lifetime and travels to Paris where she will lead the Opera in the newly renovated opera house. As a dancer, the opera world takes a little getting used to especially when she meets her very threatened and jealous understudy. Little does Christine know, the opera house also has a few tenants of it's own who happen to be her mates. Unfortunately years ago a lightening storm made it so her men are basically stuck within a small area of the city and completely powerless outside of it. Between getting to know her men and practicing for the show, much of Christine's time is accounted for. Between bouts of sex and sleep, all her time is spent on the show. Sadly we didn't get much background on the show or her practicing which color me surprised I actually wish was included. I think because of the history involved and the setting I wanted more of a historical vibe at times. I also found this book to be a bit predicatble which was a bit disappointing. There's some minor drama that concluded in the end along with a HEA for them all. Cute gargoyle read.
Honestly, I couldn’t feel any attraction to the story, nor did its events convince me in any way. I fully understand that it belongs to the world of fantasy, which gives the writer the freedom to create unusual events and characters.
However, in my opinion, fantasy should remain within a framework that is at least somewhat believable or engaging. The idea of one woman being with three men completely crossed all my red lines, and I couldn’t accept it, even in a fictional context. It felt exaggerated and superficial to the point that it stripped the story of its value and made me feel repelled rather than immersed.
There is a difference between fantasy that amazes and captivates you and the fantasy that alienates and leaves you bewildered.
I really like the concept, and I think this could have been really wonderful, but the execution fell short. The sex scenes were fine (there were... a lot of them), though the dirty talk was a bit cheesy and things ramped up a little too quickly for my liking (I like a little burn). The main issue I had was that this was way too long for the amount of actual meat there was. Flat characters, flat world-building, little to no plot... Maybe this would have been more successful as a series if we got to know the characters a bit on their own before coming together? It was creative to come up with hot gargoyles but not much else going for this one. I just needed something more.
the biggest crime that monster fucker books can commit is being boring - the plot was basic idk why it took so many words to explain it. the sex was fun i guess. if you like knotting.
4.4 stars. I liked it. But my mood had shifted about halfway through and sort of affected my enjoyment of it, to no fault of the author’s writing. I don’t think. I’ll come back and write more about my thoughts later when I have a clear head again.
Ok, I think I’m good now.
So. I really did enjoy this book. It reminded me a lot of ‘Phantom of the Opera’, and I have to think that was on purpose since the setting and the fact that the FMC is named Christine and the financier is named Raoul. There was even a chandelier, and an underground living space, though the chandelier wasn’t a part of the plot. There were more little bits here and there that reminded me of the classic too, and as someone who’s read the book and binged the 2004 movie over and over, I loved every single one of those little hints.
Then the sex. Damn. The sex was fucking hot, and had just enough kinky and rough things going on to keep me interested and happy the entire time. If you like primal play, claws, knots, choking and teeth, this will definitely appeal to you.
The plot was fun, and a tiny bit familiar, which just made me love it even more. The sex was rough and passionate and completely sexy, with enough dirty talk to just about melt your panties off. The relationship between them was sweet and loving and started with a mate bond and grew from there.
I really did like this book, a lot. I just got distracted halfway through by a new book I was looking forward to, coming out, and my mood shifting because of something that happened yesterday. That’s on me. And I will definitely be checking out what else this author has out soon. I’m a fan, for sure.
Interchangeable harem with no distinct personalities between the three males. Instant celebrity for a ballet dancer for a video of her singing that vent viral … to the point she was recognizable everywhere … not really believable. Great premise for the story but not enough development Villains reason about why he hated the men in the harem not fleshed out enough. Christine’s nemesis Desiree brought into the story for no real purpose - only cause one bit of discomfort for her so really served no purpose imo.
I liked the phantom of the opera feel to the book and the idea of the harem being made of gargoyles but I think the amount of smutty scenes in the book overtook the story 🤷.
• why choose • monster • tails • famous MC • protective Hero’s • strong & independent heroine • dp • group activities • fated mates
We have Christine (h) an up and coming famous opera singer who preforms in a old opera house. In the basement, lives 3 gargoyles who protect the building at night.
Overall, it was ok. Some of the things that happened to the heroine didn't make sense with her being a singer. I mean, you don't warm up your voice by screaming. I didn't love it, but didn't hate it either.
The moment I saw the title I already wondered if this was gonna have something to do with the Phantom of the Opera, the musical with the most wonderful music ever. The moment I read the synopsis I was therefore sold. Especially because I have a weak spot for stories featuring opera singers. It's not the kind of profession that is seen as cool or interesting. I was therefore quite happy that I got an arc for this one!
I have to admit that the book and I weren't the best match. Don't get me wrong. Sinclair is an amazing author. She is great at bringing the emotions across and all those feelings and fear and love almost jump from the page. I just personally wish that there had been just a little more plot and maybe a few less sex scenes. And that's totally a personal preference, because I know more than enough people who prefer their books like this and that's totally fine.
However, I do have to admit that the Phantom of the Opera has a thin plot to begin with, even the original story. This book absolutely does justice to the original tale and keeps all the elements making that story the epic story it is nowadays. Although in this case we don't have just one charming and mysterious secret inhabitant of the opera. We have three. I did really love the names Sinclair picked for them, by the way!
And although I would have loved to have had a little more plot and a little more background for the male characters, I really really loved this version of Christine. In a way the story stays completely true to her journey in the original story and yet it makes the story more modern. And I really loved how what seems to be everyone's dream is quickly becoming not so much of a dream for our Christine. The author did a great job portraying the downside of sudden fame.
Christine has been hired as the newest singer in the opera Joan D'Arc and is coming to Paris to perform. Here she finds the old opera house holds more than just music and history. It holds three gargoyles, Alexandre, Marius, and Erik, who have been bound to the opera house for centuries, and who happen to be her mates. But the men have enemies, and the ones that bound them may come back to take away their one true piece of happiness.
I have never loved a book as much as I loved this one. The Point of No Return mixes Phantom of the Opera with gargoyles and it was an absolute masterpiece. We have action, adventure romance and tons of steam that will melt anyone. Christine's character was flawless, showing fame isn't for everyone and that being a monster lover isn't a bad thing. The scenes she shares with her men were by far some if the better written steamy scenes in romance, and I was thrilled with it.
The men, Alex, Marius and Erik, all have unique personalities, specifically coming out when they're having fun with Christine. The primal play, claws and domination are just a few of the intrigue they have to offer. They're also incredibly sweet with Christine, doing anything they can to keep her safe and happy. They're all swoon worthy and men anyone would die to have.
The plot was fast paced and the story was interesting. I would have liked to know more about the mens' past and their interactions with Callum, but the author gave us enough backstory to truly understand the animosity between the groups.
The minute Christine arrives at the opera house, her mates radar goes off and they know she is theirs. The moment she falls into their arms on her trip to the floor, she feels drawn to them-all three of them.
Christine is an internet discovered singing sensation, brought to Paris to star in the same play that ended in tragedy 200 years prior. The trio of Gargoyles were part of that tragedy and are stuck to the rebuilt opera house and in their stone forms during the day until they can figure out a way to release themselves. The four together are absolute smut-tastic.
Gentlepeople, there is a chase scene...and lawd have all the mercies. Lock up the children, test those batteries, wash your bedmate...whatever you need to prepare for it, go do it.
There is a villian who wants power, a mean girl who wants attention, and a loyal best friend who wants...relationship...details.
By the end, the villian gets what he's earned, the mean girl will probably go on mean girling, the best friend still wants more of those bedroom secrets and Christine goes out with a big bang-the show and with her mates.
You want possessive, lustful, large and in charge in the bedroom, monster mates and their ready to play human mate? Done. Christine, Marius, Alexandre and Erik's story ends in a HEA cele-mate-tion.
Pin pointies: 📌Multi-POV 📌No MM 📌Primal play 📌Knotting 📌Pierced pleasure cannons, extra helpful tails, sharp teeth, and scratching claws.
✔ RH ✔ Gargoyles ✔ DP \ 3 holes ✔ Tail play ✔ CNC Primal chase ✔ Dom/Sub, Good Girl ✔ Communication & so much more!
Love this book! It has all the aspects one would think of being super dark but it's so sweet! Or maybe I'm just twisted lol
It's deff Insta love / fated mates but it's a mature dynamic that makes it feel real. I thought I was going to hate th reference to the h reading romance novels but it was done so well I loved it! And the ending... Perfection. It didn't leave me with questions or anything left to be desired.
I loved this different take on The Phantom of Opera with 3 hot gargoyles - Alexandre, Erik and Marius all inhabit the opera house that Newbie opera singer Christine is having her debut in. After one of vids featuring her singing was spotting online. Sparks fly between her and them. This is a steamy read as well as a romantic one too with warring gargoyles in the background that kept me interested. I really enjoyed reading this and I loved all the main characters too. A bloody good read
A part of me loved the trope that Christine was an opera singer. The parallels that the author was trying to make with Phantom of the Opera was not lost on me. Televised funeral? BTS level interest. In an opera singer. It’s not the gargoyles that are unrealistic but the entire plot. They’re frozen because of lightning. No nefarious plot. Just. Male posturing. I felt a little let down by that.
I found Devyn through her Slate City omegaverse series and I am trying to go through her catalog now. I can confidently say that she has become my favourite why-choose author.
I enjoyed this book a lot: Christine and her 3 gargoyles were burning up the pages! I had no problem with how fast she accepted that the 3 hunks she met were in fact gargoyles because of her reading material. Our girl was reading a werewolf romance after all 🌝 After the initial shock, she was I N. I swear Devyn writes the best chasing scenes: I gave one whole chili just for that scene, holy moly 🥵
“There was no known reason for mates. A happenstance of energy and resonance. But having a mate was far more than that. There was an inevitability to it—a deep knowing that it wasn’t just chance.
I actually really liked this one! It was such a quick read, it didn’t feel 400+ pages. It had great spice and plot. The only reason I took a star off was because there were moments where I was confused with what was going on. The wording was a bit weird sometimes and that took away from the story for me.
This was a fun, spicy, stand-alone. The writing wasn’t out of this world, but the story was enough to keep me going. I love that this isn’t a slow burn. Overall this was a quick read that had an HEA. For my first “monster” romance, this was tame and just what I needed to ease me into this genre.
Trigger/Content Warnings, Tags and Character Ages bellow.
DNF @ 35% - I really tried to like this book but I couldn’t get past the fact that this author thought it was appropriate to use an ableist slur in this work (page 25, when she knocks over her suitcase). This is my first read of this author, so I don’t know if this has happened before, but if I’m to ever read another of their works I will be keeping an eye out for this type of language.
I was a little disappointed this was set in modern times.
Character Ages - Christine - 26 | Marius - 200+ | Alexandre - 200+ | Erik - 200+ Tags - monster romance (gargoyles), fated mates, damsel in distress, why choose. TW/CW - Death threats, kidnapping, consensual non-consent, blade/blood play (claws), choking/breath play (erotic context), dominance and BDSM (restraints), sexual act in public, paparazzi. If you think I’ve missed any TW please comment them, thank you.
This is a fun, and very hot, take on The Phantom of the Opera. Thanks to a viral video, Christine finds herself as the lead in the revival of the Joan of Arc opera in Paris. There she finds, not a ghostly phantom, but 3 gargoyles who have their own battle to face. Christine is wholly believable in her reactions - whether it's to her sudden fame and all that comes with it, or to learning about the supernatural monsters in the world, and how she deals with her very alpha mates. The book is stand alone, no cliffhangers just a happy ever after, but I'd love Meg to get her own chance at romance some time!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
I must admit that I am getting into this new monster craze going around. This is a fabulous addition to that. We meet Christine who makes a video of herself singing that goes viral bringing her to the attention of the French opera where she earns a role in an upcoming production. Taking the chance she jumps into it only to realize that not only is she in danger by jealous cast and crew but something far more deadly is coming as well. Add the three sexy men she meets that just happen to be her mates to get a story you will find hard to put down. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
This is the first time I've skimmed a book. For me it's either not skipping a word or entirely dnfing but in this one, there were parts that i liked and parts that were just boring. The relationship was cute, even after being insta love/lust and the fated mates thing, i kind of liked the way they treated her. Also, i loved the whole opera setting. Though, i think that should have been explored a bit more. I just wasn't into the main conflict. It felt way too insignificant and also all those scenes felt rushed to even get me invested. If you want to read it for the smut, you wouldn't be disappointed. Fair warning though, there are tails involved.
This is one hell of a steamy read, one hell of a fast paced monster filled reverse harem read that will have you in its grip and not want to let go. Our mc is a strong and sexy opera singer, our harem are strong and sexy gargoyles and their relationships are intriguing and hot! An exciting read that I just couldn’t put down.
Now where can I find myself Erik, Alexandre, and Marius?? 👀 These purring, protective, and possessive gargoyles are some fine monsters 🥵😮💨 This stand alone is a must read for sure! I’m sad to see them go, but I’m so glad that they’ve finally defeated Callum and his goons, so they can have their hea!
I do NOT know why more people aren’t talking about this book! RH gargoyle story with plot and superior smut? Sign me the fuck up! The story was engaging and I loved the old Paris themes; the characters were delicious and their chemistry was hot AF. The spice? That forest scene 🥵🫣 you WANT to read it. I would definitely recommend.
