This is a very good book if you struggle with routines as I do. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 is because there is a lot of repetition and/or "fluff" along the way. I got a few good nuggets out of it, which did legitimately make meaningful differences in incorporating routines into my life. However, the amount that was meaningfully helpful could've been stated in 20 pages or less (and that is being generous - probably more like 10). The good thing about it is that it made for a quick read!
So do I recommend this? Yes. Just know it's very fluffy, and you'll be picking lots of cotton out of your teeth as you chew through this book trying to find the meaty bites.
In her insightful book, “The Routine Building Handbook,” Ashley Brown delivers a comprehensive blueprint for anyone looking to instill order and progress into their daily lives. This book earns a solid four-star rating for its practical approach to establishing routines that are not only effective but also personalized and sustainable.
Brown’s writing style is accessible and encouraging, making the sometimes-daunting task of routine creation feel achievable. She breaks down the art of routine building into manageable steps, ensuring that readers can digest and implement her strategies without feeling overwhelmed. The handbook is peppered with relatable anecdotes and real-life examples, providing a personal touch that resonates with the reader.
One of the book’s strengths is its emphasis on customization. Brown understands that one size does not fit all when it comes to routines. She encourages readers to reflect on their unique lifestyles, priorities, and goals as they craft their routines. This tailored approach is refreshing and acknowledges the diverse needs and challenges individuals face in their quest for a structured life.
“The Routine Building Handbook” stands out for its actionable content. Each chapter concludes with exercises and prompts that inspire readers to put theory into practice. Brown’s inclusion of these practical components transforms the book from a mere source of information to an interactive guide that actively involves the reader in the process of change.
Furthermore, the book offers a balanced view of routine building, highlighting both the benefits and potential pitfalls. Brown doesn’t shy away from discussing the obstacles that can derail our best intentions, such as burnout or rigidity in our schedules. Her realistic take on these challenges, coupled with her tips for overcoming them, adds depth to the book and makes her advice all the more credible.
If there’s an area where “The Routine Building Handbook” could improve, it might be in offering even more varied case studies to cover an even broader range of scenarios. While the examples provided are helpful, additional diversity in the routines presented could enhance the book’s applicability for an even wider audience.
Was looking for advice on approaching routine building and the book is an easy read for someone getting started. While the book cautioned challenges to getting started and advised suggestions to maintain consistency to maintain routines (with plenty of examples in both areas) for juggling home and family. This book included a few sections specific to mothers. I liked that the author provided guidance in breaking down routines into macro workflows, that was the most useful bit to me. This design approach is sound and I was able to take it to apply it to my situation. At the end of reading the book I was left with wanting to find another resource with more specific advice relating to professional context.
As other reviewers have noted, this is pitched to a specific audience, so many suggestions and examples don't help outside that arena. However, it has a few general statements that would help anyone looking to tweak their routines.
As someone who has struggled to get routines in place, this book is a huge help. I love how the routines are broken down in a variety of ways to show the options that are available.
If you are new to routine management this would be a four star book. I knew most of what she wrote about but there were some very helpful thoughts and tips I’ll be using.
Motivating, sometimes repetitive, but I love routines. So I'll probably re-skim down the road. Main point is to keep the routine simple and be consistent.
Much similar to advice from a friend. Always good to hear the tips, but nothing out of the ordinary. I read through it at a cafe, and liked to look at the examples as bullet points. Nice to have.
