In this cookbook, you will find recipes for 150 of the most iconic southern foods. These are foods you must make and eat in your lifetime. This includes all the well known southern favorites such as biscuits, cornbread, sweet tea, chicken fried steak, greens, fried okra and delicious desserts. It also includes some of the older recipes that are not as popular today. Recipes like Tomato Cracker Salad, Moon Pies, Warm Gumbo Dip, Crawfish Dip, Saltine Toffee, 7 UP cake and Smothered Chicken.
There are three things guaranteed when visiting the south. They are delicious food, hospitality and hot humid summers. If someone tells you “Bless Your Heart”, don't take it personally, you are just not use to our ways. As a lifelong southerner, remembering our southern heritage is important to me. These classic recipes must not get lost in history.
I love this cookbook! My Mother was born and raised in NC before a KY man in uniform moved her wherever the military told them to go, or stay.
I was hoping to find recipes that she cooked for us, while we were growing up. I found many of my favorites. Some of them I had forgotten and I'm so glad I found them.
There are 2 things she cooked that I haven't been able to find a recipe for. I believe they may have been depression era, or WWII. I will keep looking for them.
Thank you for memories awakened and a need to get in the kitchen.
I love looking at Southern recipes- growing up in the South makes me appreciate where all of those family recipes came from, how they were adapted to the family circumstances, and what they evolved into.
