When Amber McNeil accepts a job as psychic consultant in the new cold case unit of the Montreal Police Service, she is immediately drawn to the Cinderella case. The similarities between a five-year-old girl’s abduction and her own experience twenty years ago unnerves her.

A tense cop drama with a difference. Amber is a psychic. Still with unhealed trauma after witnessing her parents' brutal murder as a child and almost being kidnapped by the killer, she doubts she will ever get over it. Then her uncle, who is a chief inspector with the local police force, offers her a job as a consultant. Torn between her fear of being overwhelmed by the negative emotions she will be forced to confront daily and her desire to investigate her parents’ death, Amber agrees.
Paired with the attractive yet sceptical Detective Sergeant Ryan Baxter, Amber struggles to find her place. Assigned a 20-year-old cold case codenamed The Cinderella Case, Amber immediately makes connections to her parents’ murder. Could they possibly be related? As alibis unravel and the clues are uncovered, Ryan slowly begins to believe in Amber’s abilities, but can Amber believe in herself and solve a twenty-year mystery?

She accepts a job as a psychic consultant and is drawn into a cold case that isn't so cold, and that is too close to home. As Amber participates in the investigation, she realizes her life may be in danger - again! The Missing Slipper is a thrilling and unique story that will keep you glued to the book! Nikolai is a master at bringing amateur sleuths into heart-pounding, dangerous situations, and Amber McNeil is in for the ride of her life! Let's hope she can figure out the Cinderella case before she runs out of time!

Amber is an empath but at the end of each chapter, she is doubting herself or regretting what she does. That gets very tiresome. The plot itself is okay but the chances of two kidnappings having the same pedophile, is slim especially one that occurred 20 yrs ago. The characters were so so. I don't think I'll read anymore by this author.
