Ten chapters, chronicling Cliff's journey in music from getting kicked off "American Idol" to finding success with his hit song "Confident". It tells people how to start doing more passion projects while continuing to work their day job. It describes a detailed and realistic approach, unlike those which promise that you can become a multi-millionaire with minimal effort. Rather than setting lofty, unobtainable goals, Cliff embodies the "every man", taking slow and strategic, methodical steps to his version of success, which the readers can also aspire to and achieve in their own right.

In Mr. Cliff Beach’s book, “Side Hustle & Flow: 10 Principles to Live and Lead a More Productive Life in Less Time,” the author tells of his journey of trials and tribulations in trying to make it in the music industry. From starring on American Idol, to being in small bands making his own songs, Mr. Beach explains how trying to make a name for himself hasn’t been the easiest of things to do over the past few years.
I enjoyed how the author told his story. Clearly, his transformation from being an unknown to a recognizable name in the music industry has been littered with many thorns, but I admired reading how he worked through every roadblock that stood in his way. He persevered, and no matter how hard it was to stay afloat, he did it with dignity and took every success or failure as a lesson learned.
Mr. Beach successfully covered the 10 principles list he used to base his book on. Each principle was written explaining how he incorporated it into his life, but each one could be adapted to fit his readers’ own lives with a few tweaks here and there to make them more personalized to each reader. He also included questions in the chapters that you can use to help you stay focused and keep moving toward your end results.
One thing I have to say I didn’t enjoy was that the book was entirely filled with quotes in every chapter. I found this enjoyable at first, but by a few chapters in, I found it a distraction. While each quote was strategically placed in the text as a lesson to be learned and the quote then used as a springboard to the story in that chapter, after a while I dreaded seeing another quote. In my opinion, it had way too many quotes trying to tell the story in each chapter.
Something I did like was Mr. Beach’s determination to pick himself back up when times were tough and very disappointing and how he took each setback as a way to move forward. No matter if there was something good or bad that happened to him, he took it as a lesson to be learned to advance his dream of being a famous musician.
Overall, “Side Hustle & Flow: 10 Principles to Live and Lead a More Productive Life in Less Time,” was an enlighteningand informative narrative that readers of any age could find helpful and take a lesson or two away to fit to themselves in their present life situation. If every person were to see things through the author’s eyes and put a positive twist on every experience, the world would be filled with less negativity. I also feel that after reading this book, readers will become more focused on their goals and achieve them quicker than before.

‘An accessibly written self-help book designed to help people be the best they can be.’ A ‘Wishing Shelf’ Book Review
REVIEW This self-help book by Cliff Beach - who seems to have a lot of strings to his bow including songwriter - seems to be very well-written, offering ´life´ advice to people who feel they might be in a bit of a rut. Interestingly, like the author´s résumé, there's a little more to it than that, as it's also autobiographical, the author using his own life to illustrate the message he's trying to put across. And, for the most part, he is successful. I must say, he's had a very interesting life and I think many readers will find his writing insightful and inspiring. In the introduction, the author suggests his book will help you in a number of ways including how to find a purpose, how to stop surviving and start thriving, and how to get a good life balance. To be honest, most of the advice he offers is common sense, and you'll find it in most self-help books of this nature. But that's not particularly a criticism. I often find common sense is the best way to tackle most of life's problems. But what helps to make this book a little bit better than most is its biographical nature. For example, in the opening chapter, the author looks back at his auditions for American Idol as a way of illustrating ´setbacks are temporary and a natural occurrence on the road to success´. All in all, this is an accessibly written book which I think many people will get a lot from. It's not hugely original in terms of the message, but the way of putting over that message is, and will keep most readers turning the page. Enjoy!
