Cheyenne will do anything to clear his name, but will Ridge forgive her when he finds out what she’s done?
The Only Exception is a heartwarming redemption romance and the third book in the Wolf Creek Ranch series.
Mandi Blake was born and raised in Alabama where she lives with her husband and daughter, but her southern heart loves to travel. Reading has been her favorite hobby for as long as she can remember, but writing is her passion. She loves a good happily ever after in her sweet Christian romance books and loves to see her characters' relationships grow closer to God and each other.
The Only Exception by Mandi Blake - 4 Stars (Book 3 in the Wolf Creek Ranch Series)
Mandi Blake's books are always heartwarming and this one was no exception. This had a little bit of suspense with the return of David, Everly's crazy ex-fiancé from book 2, Almost Everything. In this story, Cheyenne is paid by David to spy on Ridge Cooper, Everly's brother. David paints a terrible picture of Ridge but when Cheyenne gets to the ranch and starts to know Ridge, she realizes all too soon she made a big mistake....
Ridge was a great guy, one of my favorite guy characters who takes care of his family and has a heart for people. He is loyal, strong and just overall an awesome guy. The faith in Mandi's books always stand out and I really liked the prayers and faith elements in this one.
Cheyenne was put in a tough position with needing help to pay for her mom's medical bills. I loved seeing her come to the realization that she made a mistake and trying to figure out what to do next to resolve it. I didn't love the kept secrets for as long as she did, but it made sense in this story as she was trying to figure out how to tell him and she stopped cashing the checks quickly, anticipating to do the right thing.
I really liked seeing characters from the previous books in this series. I think this book is best read in order of the series because you see so much of the details from book 2 in this one. Loving this series and excited to continue on.
Amanda's Cheese level rating: Block cheese but super sweet, quicker romance ;)

This was just a great book! I was excited for this book and hopeful that I would like it and it was wonderful! The Only Exception is the third book in Mandi Blake’s Wolf Creek Ranch series. Cheyenne had a past and a desire to provide for her family. Cheyenne was tired and at the end of herself so she took a job to spy on Ridge Cooper never expecting to find a home instead. There were times when I wanted to shake Cheyenne but there were also times when I understood her. She was just trying her best, but she needed to learn that God was the one in control. Cheyenne needed to let go of her past hurts and look to the future. Ridge had so much hidden in him. It was so interesting to learn more about him and see past his walls. He was fiercely loyal but that could get him into some trouble. Ridge was a wonderful character and I was drawn to his story from the beginning. He had to learn to trust God and those around him. The characters were engaging and I grew to love Ridge and Cheyenne as I read their story. They both had their struggles but they learned to trust God and each other. I love how faith is prominent in Blake’s books. The plot was engaging, and I was wondering how Ridge and Cheyenne were going to end up together when there were so many secrets between them. The side characters are always a lot of fun and I am beyond excited for the next book! The Only Exception is a must read! It can be read standalone but it is much more fun to read it in order. The Only Exception is a clean, sweet Christian romance. The story draws you in and the characters become your friends.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
Gosh! Mandi Blake’s stories are so genuine and comforting! She really knows how to deliver a feel good romance with likable characters and this plot will keep the reader invested! Ridge is definitely the strong and silent type! I loved that he spoke very little, but was super intentional with his actions. Cheyenne took a while for me to warm up to. She proved why judging someone before you know them isn’t the best plan. However, I appreciated her dedication to her family and her willingness to admit she may have made some wrong assumptions. I liked how this couple worked through their issues. It felt like very genuine reactions to conflict and it was nice to see a realistic solution. So many times in fiction the characters are not allowed to have a real discussion or disagreement for the sake of the plot and I appreciate that Mandi does not shy away from allowing her characters to be real and sometimes very raw. The conclusion of this book was sprinkled with a bit of danger, but don’t worry, there is a happy ending that I enjoyed! We even got a little peek at the next book in the series! This series is shaping up to be my favorite from Mandi Blake!
Mandi Blake always writes the most heartwarming romances with great relatable characters. She also likes to keep us on our toes with a sprinkling of suspense. In The Only Exception, Cheyenne is basically being paid to spy on Ridge, so I was wondering just how Ms. Blake was going to write her so that we understood why she was doing what she was doing and still like her. I’ve got to admit, I was already on Ridge’s side before the story even started!
While I didn’t like that Cheyenne was spying on Ridge, I did understand why she felt like she had to take the job and I appreciated her loyalty to her family. I also liked that she struggled with what she was doing, especially as she got to know Ridge, and that she was willing to admit that maybe she had misjudged him. Speaking of Ridge, he was my favorite character! I loved his heart for people, his strength, his loyalty to his sister, and…well, honestly I loved everything about him!
Although this is the third story in the Wolf Creek Ranch series, I believe each could easily be read as standalones. I have enjoyed each story and this series is turning into my favorite series of Mandi Blake’s, so far!

I received an advanced copy of the book from the author so these are my thoughts on the book. This was a quick read for me that had me staying up too late reading to see what happened next.I really enjoyed the characters I recommend this book.i haven't read many of mandi Blake's books but will be reading more of her books
Cheyenne's mom had a stroke and is in a care facility. At the same time, she finds herself out of a job when the store she manages closes. She and her 19 yr old sister are struggling to survive. Cheyenne is applying for jobs all over. She doesn't want to leave TN, but she is willing to if it will help support her mother. When she receives a job offer from David, she is excited, but nervous thinking she will have to move. However, David wants her to take a job at Wolf Creek Ranch and spy on Ridge. He is an ex-felon who got off too easy and David wants to see justice served. He agrees to pay for all of Cheyenne's mom's medical bills and also pay Cheyenne $50k/month. She doesn't want to do it, but doesn't feel like she has a choice.
Ridge just wants to work on the ranch and let his past be in the past. He is a good person and the criminal charges against him were unwarranted. When Cheyenne arrives, she finds that Ridge is not the monster that David made him out to be. In fact, David is the monster.
There are many twists and turns, but Cheyenne finds a community of friends at the ranch.
I LOVED this book!! I love all of Ms. Blake's books, though! Ridge has kept himself hidden away working at Wolf Creek Ranch for six years. He doesn't trust many people, and he's not proud of an incident in his past, but to protect his sister, he'd do it again. Cheyenne never knew her football playing father. She's told herself she doesn't want to, and she's never liked other pro athletes, who she knows are just like him. When her mom's medical bills mean that she and her sister, Hadley, may lose their house, she takes a job working at Wolf Creek Ranch with Ridge to spy on him, she finds out that the Ridge she is coming to know is nothing like she was led to believe. The more these two work together, the more they are attracted. What will happen when the truth about both comes out? Can their love find a way???
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
3.5 ⭐️ What would you do if your parent was incapacitated and the weight of bills were on your shoulder? Would you do anything to save your parent's life?
What if you were tricked into doing wrong? Would you confess? And how do you respond when you're the one betrayed--would it be like Jesus?
"The Only Exception" is probably my favorite I've read by Mandi Blake. The story has a lot of suspense and a sweet love story, but she also worked a whole lot of redemption in this book. Through the plot we can deduce the main characters are already Christians, and I love how often both of them turned to the Lord in prayer through the book.
Cheyenne’s birth story and family also touched my heart. There were a couple of parts that made me smile/laugh. And the ending was so sweet!
This book is part of a series but could be read as a stand alone. (I received an ARC of this book, but was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.)
Oh man was this book a rollercoaster of emotions and I enjoyed every second.
Ridge has scars. We know that from book 2 in the series. But man oh man when Cheyenne shows up does he let his softy side show!
The emotional turmoil and sticky situation Cheyenne gets herself into drives this plot forward and gives so many opportunities for a healthy relationship to build and I LOVED THAT!
This book had excellent examples of communication, turning to God in times of need, working together as a couple, and pulling together as a community for those in need.
Love. Love. Love this book. 😍😍
💋Kisses only ⚠️Cheyenne's mom had a stroke, Ridge has a felony for hurting a dude who pulled a gun on him and who was stalking his sister, dangerous jerk boy tries to hurt Cheyenne
Thank you to the author for the ARC. Ridge is happy to live his quiet life at Wolf Creek Ranch and leave the public behind. He is starting a kids’ program at the ranch. Cheyenne is struggling with the loss of her job due to the closure of the store, her younger sister trying to make enough to keep them out of debt, and their mother having a stroke and being in a nursing home. She takes a job offer from Ridge’s sister’s ex, David, but revenge is really his goal. Cheyenne discovers that life at Wolf Creek Ranch is really a dream come true and maybe Ridge isn’t the bad guy. This is a series best read in order to understand the characters. I look forward to more in the series.
This is a Christian romance and one that takes the reader back to Wolf Creek Ranch and the third book of the series. This story belongs to Ridge Cooper and Cheyenne Keaton. The teaching of this story about forgiveness of oneself, in this case RIdge, and others. As for Cheyenne, it’s about not making assumptions and generalizations. The plot is engaging and the characters are imperfect , which makes them perfect. It’s also a story about second chances in life, beliefs and love. I as entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Okay this one deserves a longer dissection. I liked ridge and Cheyenne, and their relationship was interesting. The 3rd act break up was necessary and well written. The characters handled it with maturity and rationale, which was refreshing.
My favorite parts were of course the scenes with colt and remi. I love love love them to death 💓
4 stars with the margin of error being that there was room for improvement. It was an easy read in the sense that nothing shocked me and my emotions were not pulled. Overall, rather well done. I think Blake is on an upward trajectory;)
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author. Great story!
The characters are realistic. We know most of them already. They are cowboys and cowgirls — honest, hard-working, loyal, tight-knit group, more likely to stand up for each other than for themselves.
And that show up in spades in this story. The plot is pretty simple — idiot guy wants revenge. They way if plays out is a bit more convoluted and makes for a great read!
This was such a good book! I knew from the previous books that I would like Ridge’s book, and I was not disappointed. Ridge and Cheyenne work together so well with the children’s program, but they both have secrets. I like that it doesn’t take long for Ridge to forgive Cheyenne when he finds out that she was there to find out about him. I really enjoy the Wolf Creek Ranch series and am excited for the next book.
A second chance in life. Ridge and Cheyenne has secrets to keep but they need to work together and fight the attraction until they can come clean with each other. The truth will send them free but can destroy what they have and break them forever. An emotional story about family, friendship, trust, faith and love.
This was a wonderful read. I truly enjoyed it. I’ve been looking forward to Ridge getting a book of his own. It was phenomenally done. I can’t wait for the next of this series!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story. Cheyenne accepts a job to help look after her mum and sister but quickly realises it goes against her morals, especially as she gets to know the real Ridge. As they face danger from past and present, their feelings, fears and future are tested. Likeable characters and enjoyable series. I would have liked to know the outcome of the youth programme (but maybe this will be in the next story). I received an ARC of this book but voluntarily leave this review.
I am a volunteer ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review. I love Ms Blake’s books! You will not go wrong with any of her books. She has strong characters, a beautiful setting of the ranch, and great storylines. This is a stand alone HEA that is part of a series. I love that you get to see the previous characters from the other books and where their lives are taking them. There is suspense to her books that make you not want to put them down. I often find myself cheering for the characters as I am reading. This story is about Ridge and Cheyenne. They both have a love of family and will do anything for them. Can there new found love withstand the tests? Read to find out!
I don't think I can truly put into words just how much this wonderful story touched my heart, but I'm going to go ahead and try my best. I've been (not) so patiently waiting to read this one, ever since readers were given a glimpse at Ridge's upcoming story at the end of Almost Everything, and it did not disappoint. Mandi Blake has once again written a swoon worthy, heart wrenching contemporary romance novel that gives all the feels, and keeps Christ at its front and center.
The plot was engaging right from the get go, as we follow along Cheyenne Keeton on her quest to try and keep a roof over her and her sister's head, and stay on top of her mother's medical bills that won't stop piling up. When she's given the opportunity to work for a corporation that entails taking a job on the idyllic Wolfcreek Ranch to spy on Ridge Cooper, and find out what secrets could destroy the life he's worked so hard to build, she's torn but decides she has to do what she can to help her family. Only she didn't plan on Ridge being a stand up, wonderful man who is always the first to throw out a helping hand to anyone who needs it. Soon Cheyenne and Ridge develop a beautiful friendship that hints at something more, but can they ever move past the big secrets that threaten to ruin everything they've worked so hard to build?
With relatable characters, suspenseful bits woven into the plot, and an authentic and loveable romance that will leave readers everywhere wanting more, The Only Exception is truly Mandi Blake at her best, and I love how she continues to develop and hone in her craft with each and every book she releases. Cheyenne and Ridge's story was a wonderful illustration of the Biblical principle that we are never too far gone for God to restore to His glory, and never incapable of being used to accomplish His purpose.
I loved how this story included many moments that I wasn't expecting, and as always, I loved seeing characters pop up from the previous books, and even some from one of her previous series. If you've never picked up a book by this author before, then this is honestly the perfect time to do so. The Only Exception was everything I could have wanted in a Christian romance, and the epilogue has me even more excited to finally get to read Colt and Remi's story.
Final Rating: 5/5.
Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite books of the year, and I can't recommend it enough to anyone who loves Christian romances.
Thanks so much to Mandi Blake for allowing me to advance read and review this one!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.
Ridge and Cheyenne were absolute perfection. I loved how the silent and brooding Ridge was so clearly smitten with mysterious Cheyenne. God’s goodness shined through the entire book and the ending was incredibly satisfying. I can’t wait to read Colt and Remi’s story 😍
Cheyenne is in a desperate situation when she accepts a job that sounds too good to be true. Her mother’s medical bills will get paid and she can support her sister too. All she has to do is spy on a man, gather certain information and report back to her new boss. When she gets to know Ridge, the enemy of her boss, she finds he is nothing like the terrible man her boss painted him to be. Ridge is a good man who is focused on helping kids with the new Youth Learning Program. He is well liked by everyone around him and she sees no tendencies toward violence. Ridge is fiercely protective of his sister, and he is set on not making life easy for the man who hurt his sister both physically and emotionally. That man is Cheyenne’s secret boss. Cheyenne finds herself in one heck of a mess. She can’t betray the man she has come to admire and care about, but she needs the money to pay her mother’s medical bills. She also faces anger and rejection from Ridge if she tells him about what she was really hired to do. The rest of Ridge and Cheyenne’s story is an illustration of listening to your conscience, following God’s guidance, and trusting one’s instincts and faith. Both Ridge and Cheyenne never expected love to be part of their story, and now they have to work hard to defend and keep it.
This book is another wonderful book to add to my keeper list. I found both the characters and storyline to be fascinating and captivating. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars ________________________________________ Story Notes Ever read books that make you want to join the fight for the underdog? This is definitely one of those books for me. Wolf Creek is a fabulous ranch that I would for sure want to visit but it’s the people rather than the location that draws me in. These friends and family are the kind that others dream of having. This third story focuses on Ridge and I have really been looking forward to reading it. The interactions between Ridge and Cheyenne were both witty and intense. Their wariness of the other might have kept them from growing closer but they finally figured it out. Plus, Mandi didn’t make them have the whole “won’t talk things out” plot for too much of the story which I appreciated. And while some characters had to sort through issues, they actually did and didn’t bottle things up the whole book, then explode. I was really glad to see the villain get his comeuppance in this story too. He’s such a slimy creep! I definitely recommend you get this book and the rest of the series on your TBR, it’s one of the good ones you won’t want to miss. Now I’m really excited to read Colt and Remi’s story next!!
I received this complimentary book from Mandi Blake. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review but am most pleased to do so. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
Another winner by Mandi Blake! I loved reading about Cheyenne and Ridge's story. Ridge is a former NFL player with a record. He wasn't responsible but paid the price just the same. Now, he just wants to blend into the shadows and do good works flying under the radar and he doesn't want a woman in his life.
Cheyenne has lost her job, her mom had a stroke and she is desperate. When an opportunity presents itself for her to make a lot of money to help take care of her mom and her younger sister, she jumps on it. Even though, something doesn't feel quite right. She has to spy on Ridge. She has been told he is a monster so he should get what he deserves. The problem is that the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes she doesn't have the whole story. The closer they get, the more she knows she needs to come clean and tell the truth. Keeping secrets are never a good thing and someone always gets hurt in the end. Can forgiveness be a part of the equation or will Cheyenne and Ridge lose something wonderful before it really has a chance to grow?
All of Mandi's books are Christian-themed and are a clean and wholesome read and are about flawed characters who need forgiveness and grace.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I am really enjoying each book in this series more and more with each new installment. This book had me really invested in the heroines journey. I don't always like the "sent undercover to find dirt on someone " trope. This one was handled in such a way that I could sympathize with rothe reasoning and the motives for what caused both MC to do what they did. I really loved how it all worked out. Some things seemed simply resolved. But it matched the story flow. An enjoyable hidden identities romance set on a dude ranch and with many other characters I am looking forward to seeing what happens when they get the spotlight! I recieved a complementary copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are honest and completely my own.
She’s supposed to hate him but she only wants to love him
Cheyenne Keeton is desperate to save her family home and pay for her mother’s care. David’s job offer is almost too good to be true. All she has to do is pass on information about an ex-football player that she learns while working at a Wyoming dude ranch. It isn’t something Cheyenne would normally do but from the evidence David showed her, Ridge Cooper is an entitled monster who deserves it.
Ridge isn’t proud of his past actions but he would do it again to protect his sister. The youth program he is working on at the dude ranch can make a real difference in kids’ lives and he is eager to make it a success. Ridge keeps his life private and has no interest in a relationship but his new assistant has a way of getting past the wall he has erected around his heart.
This is a beautiful second-chance story of love and forgiveness. The book pulls you in as Cheyenne and Ridge open their hearts and learn to trust each other. I really like this clean, cowboy romance series. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
The Only Exception is such a delightful read. I have loved almost all of the books I have read from Mandi Blake, and this one might just be my favorite. Of course, I seem to say that about every book I read from her, but they just keep getting better and better!
The characters in this story are instantly likeable. Reading about them was comforting almost, like you are being told a story about your friends. The journey of their relationship was so cute to see. I also liked that we got to see a lot from the other characters in the series. It felt like one big family. Plus we got to see a lot from the characters the next book in the series is about. This book has made me so excited for the next book in the series. I can't wait to read it!
There were a lot of intense moments throughout the story, but the characters came through them remarkably well. We got to see how strong they truly are through the way they handled every situation. There was a lot of love, with tender moments mixed throughout. I found it to be really sweet. I loved every minute of it.
I read an ARC of this book for free, and I voluntarily left this honest review.
