Over the past few years, the Greenburg Clinic for Women has been providing unique medical services geared to adolescent females, who typically come to the clinic on instructions from their moms, sometimes accompanied with their moms, but often, if she is sixteen or older, she comes on her own. The services provided are in-depth woman-care physical examinations, sex counselling, birth control education, substance abuse, HIV and STD testing, as well as prescribing birth control pills.
The clinic, under Doctor Greenburgs’ guidance, recently added additional in-depth sex counselling and assessment services for adolescent patients between ages of 17 and 19. In the last six months the girls who experienced these added services, which are usually requested by her parents and follow their initial medical exams, are talking among themselves and calling this odd portion of their physical exams ‘nude counselling’, ‘fooling around in the nude’, or ‘making out with the doctor’. It occurs with her doctor at the conclusion of her medical examination. Some girls didn’t mind the weird experience because they discovered things about their bodies they didn’t fully understand, even though it seemed to be an embarrassing ‘molestation’ experience with a stranger; other girls only went so far, calling a halt to it, and were too ashamed, embarrassed, or didn’t want to talk about it or share the experience with anyone at all.
