Virtues and Philosophies of Seneca, Mandela, African Proverbs and Snoop Dogg.
This book narrates practical philosophies and virtues the ancients used as resilience tools against hardships. They are very much applicable to today’s times.
We all struggle to get a grip on joy, anxiety, productivity and resilience, from time to time.
Today thousands around the world have found solace and utility in the ancient Roman philosophy of Stoicism against these struggles: sportsmen, coaches, politicians and businessmen and artists.
In Africa they use the ancient philosophy of Ubuntu and its proverbs to reinforce sanity, motivation, humility, inspiration, meaning, and cautionary discipline.
In this book, the author meditates on the combination of the two ancient philosophies as a pathway to getting a healthy grip on joy, anxiety and productivity.
To the author, Stoicism enshrines humility (Ubuntu) for the self, others, goals, joy and productivity.
Tiisetso first introduced his meditative writings on Stoicism in his 4th book called ‘The Anxious Entrepreneur’ in 2016.
Later on, he coined the phrase 'Ubuntu Stoicism’ as a creative and meditative endeavour to get a grip on joy, productivity and anxieties.
Introducing Ubuntu Stoicism does not only borrow virtues from ancient titans (Seneca, Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus) and African proverbs.
It also borrows from modern icons outside Stoicism: the likes of Nelson Mandela and the rapper Snoop Dogg.

Maloma defines Ubuntu in two senses: Firstly, in how one relates to oneself, and secondly, in how one relates to others. Directed towards oneself, Ubuntu is what enables one to do what the subtitle mentions: to achieve joy, to act in a resolute manner, to be productive, and to overcome anxiety. As far as it pertains to a life lived with others, Ubuntu involves being fair in how we act toward others and in how we expect them to act towards us, and in doing what we can for the benefit of our community.
The idea of Ubuntu as humility - enough to do what one needs to do for one's own sake, and in carrying out one's duty toward others - is closely linked to the idea of Stoic Cosmopolitanism.
After doing what is necessary for oneself, looking outwards to fulfil one's responsibility toward others enables one to contribute to the improvement of society. Lived out collectively, Ubuntu Stoicism leads to a thriving society that can inspire others, providing them with the strength to live and act in a manner that is beneficial to themselves as well as to those around them.
