[From the author's own website]

I was born and raised in New England and I live in Massachusetts now, with my husband and benevolent feline overlords. Mine is a quiet, fairly ordinary life. I love that because it's what saves me from an overdeveloped sense of paranoia and a tendency to expect the worst. Combined with an eye for detail and a quirky take on life, these traits give me a vivid internal life, one that's sometimes a little nerve-wracking, but very useful for writing mystery and suspense.

My interest in archaeology stems from childhood, where my interest in books and the opportunities I had to travel made me begin to think about cultural differences. The thing I like best about this work is that it is a real opportunity to try and resurrect individuals from the monolith of history. I've worked on prehistoric and historical sites in the U.S. and in Europe, and like to teach, in the field, in museums, in the classroom, and through writing.

In my first book, Site Unseen, my protagonist Emma Fielding discovers that archaeologists are trained to ask the same questions that detectives ask: who, what, where, when, how, and why. When I started on these books, I realized that archaeology is also good training for writing because research, logic, and persistence are so important to both endeavors.

Naturally, that training worked with the archaeology mysteries--and it also helped with my first short story, "The Lords of Misrule," a historical mystery which appeared in the anthology, Sugarplums and Scandal. But how has it worked when I've tackled subjects as seemingly diverse as werewolves ("The Night Things Changed" in Wolfsbane and Mistletoe and "Swing Shift" in Crimes By Moonlight) and noir ("Femme Sole," in Boston Noir)? Easy: it's all about getting into someone else's shoes and walking around for a while. Preferably, getting into (fictional) trouble while you do it. Asking "what if?" and thinking about how culture and subcultures--in addition to personality--shape behavior.

Exit interview is edgy and sexy, with a full cast of uniquely developed badass women. Each of Dana Cameron's point of view characters is deeply human and an inspiration in her own way. Dry humor abounds with brilliant one liners peppered throughout. A masterful attention to little details gives each scene a simultaneous air of realism while maintaining the best traditions of over the top spy thriller action sequences.

I was fortunate to receive an advanced review copy of Exit Interview.

Thriller/espionage; very strong female characters (one black); international arms dealing; computers; Washington, D.C.; journalism

When international arms dealer Anton Kola is killed in front of her, Washington Post reporter Amy Lindstrom is determined to get the story; Nicole Bradley and Jayne Rogers wind up getting involved.

Amy Lindstrom isn’t sure just how she got an invitation to a major Washington, D.C. social event; she’s a reporter for the Washington Post and isn’t used to being actually invited to this kind of affair. When one of the guests is killed literally in her line of sight, she knows she must get the story. Anton Kola is a well-known arms dealer at the highest levels; who has the audacity to kill him in from of God and everyone? Amy suspects the wait-person standing quite close to Anton and she chases that person long enough to find out that it’s a woman, and she’s wearing a tie-dye shirt. Only luck enables Amy to locate the woman, who says her name is Marie. Not true. One thing leads to another. Marie (a.k.a. Jayne) and Nicole Bradley work for the same person; he seems to be trying, with quite a bit of success, to kill off a goodly number of his people, Jayne among them. Is this a totally separate operation from the murder of Kola? No matter what, these three women can kick-ass with the best of them and do so on a regular basis.

Dana Cameron is well-known for her crime and cross-genre fiction, although she is by no means limited to those two arenas. Her plotting and story-telling are stellar; there is just no other word for it. Her characters are defined and amazing creatures. The setting, in and around our nation’s capital, is obviously reasonably familiar to the writer. Anyone who has an inkling that the cult of conspiracy theories is limited to a small segment of the population should know that Ms. Cameron can theorize with the best of them, at least on a fictional level. Her dystopian vision is not totally unbelievable, which is disheartening to some people. Her protagonists, on the other hand, are people who might give those people genuine hope for the future.

I received a complimentary ARC copy of Exit Interview an a.k.a. Jayne novel by Dana Cameron from Net Galley , DCLE Publishing LLC in order to read and give an honest review.

… A well-written, fast-paced, action-packed thriller that takes the reader on a journey like no other.…

A huge fan of author, Dana Cameron’s Emma Fielding series her newest release does not disappoint. In this new series we get a feisty, fast paced thriller with three unique kickass women.

The death of arms dealer Anton Kola in front of reporter Amy Lindstrom sets off a chain of events like no other. While attending a function hosted by the Kola’s Amy watches as Anton Kola drops dead at her feet after asking her to meet with him. When Amy is abducted after the event, her life is about to change for ever, especially when she learns that it is not her abductor she needs to worry about. Jayne Rogers, former agent of “the Department” was at the event and is set up to take the fall for Kola’s murder. On the run Jayne learns she is not only being sought after by the police but also being hunted by agents she once called colleagues. When Amy realizes she is also in the Department’s crosshairs it is safer to work with Jayne to ensure her safety and the safety of those she loved. When Jayne learns more about a deadly culling set to happen from her former colleague, tech wizard Nicole Bradley, they team up to stop the bloodshed in its tracks.

A well-written, fast-paced, action-packed thriller that takes the reader on a journey like no other. I loved the strong, smart, multifaceted, and diverse women all of whom drive the plot at a relentless pace. Although well-written I found the shifting POV’s took a while to get used to but then it worked with the overall plot. This is a bloody and violent novel so those who are expecting another Emma Fielding type novel, be warned. Despite the violence there are some touching and often funny moments in the story leading to an ending that really worked. I highly recommend giving it a read.

A terrific thriller that starts fast and never lets up.

Exit Interview involves three very different characters, Jayne Rogers, Nicole Bradley, and Amy Lindstrom, unraveling the mess after the death of an international arms dealer. Rogers and Bradley are both part of the same unnamed government department that specializes in murder, while Lindstrom is a civilian who is thrown into the deep end of a very dangerous pool.

A lot of things happen very quickly and Cameron writes blistering action. The violence is brutal and ugly. Despite the storm of action, there are also islands of quiet kindness which were unexpected, and humanize the characters. As I became more invested in Rogers, Bradley, and Lindstrom, it was more clear what was at stake, increasing the well-orchestrated tension.

The plot twists like an angry snake, but never lost me. Revelations and ideas build on each other, while the small character touches stayed with me, such as Jayne’s decision to leave a distinctive pen at a crime scene in chapter two.

Exit Interview is a fast read, partially because the story pulled me along, and also due to Cameron’s prose is lean and efficient. I never stumbled over an unclear idea, or confusing language. It’s a well-polished book, dark and violent, with enough humanity to keep it from being hopelessly grim. Highly recommended.

Exit Interview is an action-packed crime thriller told in three points of view. Amy is a hard hitting journalist who is accustomed to covering the dark side include crimes and political intrigue. Jayne is an agent who works with an arms dealer...and assigned to kill him. His death caused ripples. Amy saw him die...and living the day before. Jayne is naturally blamed so part of the book is about clearing her. Nicole surveils and knows how to fight. The book is about contracts, (double) agents, arms dealers, crimes and unafraid women. Not only that but we see slivers of technology in operation such as biometrics.

Those who prefer their mysteries and thrillers as hard boiled and gritty, Exit Interview may be for you. Characters are bold and brash and everything about it is gritty including adult language. It is not a favourite genre of mine but wanted to give it a go again. I did not particularly enjoy it but that is strictly my personal preference. The writing is snappy and the ending grabbed my attention.

My sincere thank you to DCLE Publishing LLC for providing me with a digital copy of this book.

EXIT INTERVIEW by Dana Cameron
I ended up admiring the strong women allied against evil in Dana Cameron’s EXIT INTERVIEW, doing what they needed to do, respecting them despite my resistance to some of the “grittier” aspects (echoed at times by the journalist, Amy).
I confess that I put the book aside a time or two (book club friends would have snatched it from me, as they did on occasion, “this is NOT for you”), but I found myself returning because I came to care for these intrepid, if unwilling, warriors for justice. They showed so much loyalty, courage, and resourcefulness. The ending made it all worthwhile (no, I won’t spoil it, you’ll have to find out for yourself). I find myself thinking of these brave women, and hoping the memory will stick with me when I need a bit of courage.
Hint: I found it useful to assign different highlighting colors to the main characters to help keep track of the twists and turns. This book, like life, is not simplistic.

I can't give a better blurb than the one on the book. Reporter Amy Lindstrom has just witnessed the sudden, suspicious death of the powerful arms dealer she's been investigating. The only one who believes Jayne is being framed is Nicole Bradley, whose technical skills are as stealthy and lethal as Jayne's abilities with her fists and weapons. All three must work together to prevent a hidden arms cache from falling into the wrong hands. the intrigue is suspensful and the women work well together. I have read several of Ms. Cameron's previous books. Her name is familiar to me so I thought I'd give this one a try. Glad I did. I'm hoping there will be more Jaye novels.

This one was good. Really good dialogue and I loved the female characters. I did have a little trouble in the beginning keeping the characters straight and figuring out if they were “good” or “bad”, but after a few chapters I had it. I loved the shifting narrators and I could see the story as a movie the whole time. By the end I was kinda ready for it to be done though. I felt like it was kind of dragging and I was getting exhausted from all the running and killing and it was just enough. Loved the very end though.

Dana Cameron is a prolific writer of various genre. Exit Interview is her first full length Jayne thriller. Twists and turns of the plot keep the reader unable to put the book down.
Reporter Amy Lindstrom sees vicious arms dealer Kola killed. Did Jayne Rogers kill Kola or is she being framed for his murder.

This is an amazing read!

The story switches between three women: Jayne - who is accused of going rogue, Amy - a journalist who ends up in trouble while investigating a story, and Nicole - a colleague of Jayne and the only one who doubts Jayne's guilt.

I loved all three of them. They're all resourceful, smart, and kick-ass in their own way. I was drawn into the story from the start and eager to find out what was going on and if Amy, Jayne, and Nicole would escape harm, save the day, and get a well deserved happy end.

There's lots going on,and next to tons of cool action, there's intrigue, suspense, and humor as well. I had a great time with this book and you bet I'm keeping an eye out for Cameron's next book.
