An Accidental But Perfect Romance #1

Wrong Text, Right Reply: A Sweet Accidental Romance

Rate this book
How is it possible to care for someone you’ve never even met before? And hate someone you know too well?

She’s a single mom running a group of divorcee women determined to do something new in their lives that doesn’t revolve around carpooling, pickup lanes, or late homework.

He’s a lifelong bachelor who can’t seem to get commitment right determined to figure out how to go from lonely Sunday mornings, cheesy pickup lines, and late nights out with nothing to show for it.

Savvy Donovan is a natural go-getter. Her over-zealous nature helps her recover from her own broken marriage as she tries to help friends do the same. She wants to be happy, but that doesn’t mean she wants a man.

Nope. Never again will she rely on a man. She’s resistant to any attempts at blind dates or even entertaining a dating app.

She starts a group text to make sure everyone in the group knows what’s going on with activities. She has no idea she’s added Knox Taylor, accidental bachelor with a desire to find “The One” or at the very least, fix all of the ways he’s ruined relationships in the past.

Knox doesn’t realize he’s been added to the wrong group text because he lost his phone. When he finally recovers the cell, he can’t help but get immersed in the thread about women and their wants, dreams, and desires, what makes them tick and why they wouldn’t be happy. He’s hit the jackpot on learning about the very thing he so desperately needs help with.

He’s particularly interested in one woman who seems to lead the whole thing. She’s sassy and fun and a little bossy. He always liked the sassy ones.

Rather than come clean about who he is, Knox continues with the pretense, finally understanding why dinner with Sheila’s parents should have been more important than that baseball game, or why Tina ghosted him after he’d suggested taking a cruise on their second date. What, too soon?

Late one night, Savvy starts a new thread of messages between herself and “KT” while she thinks he’s one of the girls. Sharing secrets they wouldn’t tell just anyone, Savvy and Knox find out they share more common ground than they originally thought.

As time passes, both Knox and Savvy look forward to hearing from the other until one day, Savvy wants to meet. She can’t believe she’s grown to care for someone as much as she has and doesn’t really know them. Could KT be the best-friend she’s always wanted?

When the truth comes out about just who Knox is, he'll have to use everything he's learned about women from the wrong texts to make the right reply...or risk losing Savvy completely.

The only problem is, she knows him. He just happens to be the man she hates almost as much as her ex.

Keeping it real

This is probably the most real rom com I’ve read in a long time. Mostly because it deals with some serious issues that Savvy has. Without giving away any spoilers Savvy has some food issues. She is has a great body according to Knox but she doesn’t see it. So this is not about bulimia or anorexia. With stress and difficult situations she goes to food binging. This is the first time I’m reading details about what it is like to go thru this problem, what the aftermath is, how it effects others. It felt so real to read about it. This felt like the only heavy issue of the story for me although not front and center in the storyline it is addressed in a respectful and non shaming way.
Overall this is a rom com. There was a lot of humor and embarrassment. I’m not into ‘Bad boys’ but I love how Knox was searching for his forever family but women couldn’t see past his outer appearance.
I will read the next in the series.
Rating: PG-13, clean, deals with failed marriages and the emotional baggage that can lead to, infidelity, single parent issues. Ending gives a positive and hopeful look on these situations.

This is the first book in the new sweet and clean series by Bonnie R. Paulson writing as Bonnie Sweets and I really enjoyed this book that encompasses not only what is great about the digital age but also how it can go oh so wrong, too. I immediately fell for Knox (a.k.a. KT) and how he wanted a serious relationship in such a big way but was always sabotaging himself and inevitably suffering the consequences. Was it wrong of him to not let Savvy know that he had been added to her text group by mistake? Yes, in so many ways but I could really sympathize with his wanting to learn what he was always seeming to do wrong and fix it so he could get the wife and family life he was ready for and wanted so much.

It took a while for me to be completely on board with Savvy though and I really don't know why. Maybe it was the over-the-top total distrust of all men in general coupled with the severe OCD control issues that just did not allow me to view her as someone I would ever actually encounter IRL. A more fleshed-out back-story as to what caused her to develop the severity of her various problems would have helped me to better understand her and therefore also allow me to feel more empathy for her which in turn would have let me come to like her sooner. I really liked her when she allowed herself to interact with others in a more realistic manner and I also loved her two kids. Especially her teenage daughter who was such a crafty matchmaker. (You will have to read the book to see what role she played in the whole text mix-up from the very beginning.) She and her brother were so supportive of Savvy and her issues and were wise beyond their years which was understandable with the utter loser of a father that they had in Keith, Savvy's ex-husband and creator of her irrational distrust in men. I also felt that Savvy should have done a lot more groveling to Knox when she finally realized how she had almost lost out on the best thing to ever come her way. He was just too darn nice about it all. There were a number of secondary characters that all had such wonderful personalities and I hope that they will be getting their own stories too!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Cute clean read, will definitely read the next in series

I thought this was a very cute and funny book. I loved the interactions between all of them in the group chat. I enjoy single mom finds love stories and this was well done. I do wish there was more interaction between Knox and the kids. My only issue is that the heroine had issues with binging and control which was great to show no one’s perfect but she really needed therapy. Spoiler: her kids would find her after a binge and joke about her issues but I’m sure that was hard for them so maybe she could have mentioned setting up an appointment even if author didn’t write scenes of her going. I appreciated the fact that there were no explicit scenes but feel free to add more kisses in the next book. Looking forward to next book in the series.

Although a typical rom com in many ways it also dealt with some serious food issues that Savvy has. . When stressed she goes to food binging. The issue was dealt with respectfully. A single mother, she deals with life by being very regimented and living her life with the aid of a planner she has named Paul. She starts a divorced womans support group, and they spend a good part of the book texting and supporting each other. Unknown to Savvy her text friend KT is actually Knox, a handsome rival food truck owner she works nearby. They eventually become friends in real time. Will he be brave enough to tell her he's been on the divorced woman's text chain by accident but ended up staying there?

Quick, fun read

It was fun! Knox is the best. I thought Savvy was so sweet and vulnerable. And the texting was a riot.
