Beth Hildenbrand creates an unusual twist to a horror plot when main character Willow Alexander, an author of occult mystery, inexplicably begins to experience the very things she writes about. What initially may seem to be Willow’s vivid dreams turns into a nightmare for her and her family when they realize that they are truly in a deadly battle with a vicious demon.
There is an interesting turn of events as the story reaches its final climax and I liked how this author concluded the story.
This short novel is well-constructed, intriguing, and most entertaining. I read it in one sitting, and I highly recommend it.

I enjoyed this original twisty horror story, especially as the main protagonist is an indie author who writes horror fiction, which works really well in this book. I would question the 12+ teen and YA rating as there are some quite graphic sex scenes. I will be looking for more books from this author.

Beth Hildenbrand continues to build her dark fantasy world with “Death Writes”. At the center of the story is indie horror author Willow Alexander. Will lives and breathes writing horror books. She has a very active imagination and vivid dreams. So much so she often feels as if she is experiencing deja vu.

Willow’s world includes her crew made up of her best friend Lanie and her hot military boyfriend Matthias Church. Church may just become your next book boyfriend!

When death becomes obsessed with Willow, the crew has to look beyond their own fears and into Willow’s past to determine why death is obsessed with her. Beth Hildenbrand’s Death Writes is a mesmerizing descent into the dark and twisted corners of the human psyche, a masterful blend of horror, sensuality, and macabre elegance. From the very first page, Hildenbrand ensnares her readers with a finely wrought tapestry of suspense and dread, spinning a tale so vivid and immersive it’s as though the shadows themselves come alive to whisper their secrets.

Willow Alexander, an indie horror author, is the kind of protagonist you root for and fear for in equal measure. Her vivid nightmares, turned into chilling tales, become breadcrumbs leading to the unsettling truth of her family history and her battle with a malevolent demon. Hildenbrand’s ability to make the supernatural feel terrifyingly real is second to none, weaving spirituality, faith, and raw human emotion into a story that lingers long after the final page.

The cast of characters—Willow's steadfast best friend Lanie, her smoldering military boyfriend Matthias Church, and a haunting demon that refuses to be denied—are as unforgettable as the plot twists that keep you gasping. The dynamics of friendship, love, and resilience are tested in ways that only amplify the terror. Hildenbrand doesn't just tell a story; she drags you, willingly or not, into the heart of the nightmare.

With Death Writes, Hildenbrand proves she’s a force to be reckoned with in the horror genre. It’s a tale of dark delights, steamy romance, and spine-chilling horror. This is a must-read for anyone who craves a story as haunting as it is beautifully crafted. Five stars, without a doubt.

A Spellbinding Occult Gem!

In "Death Writes," Beth Hildenbrand, an extraordinary Indie author, has crafted a mesmerizing occult masterpiece that left me enthralled from start to finish. With Willow Alexander as the kick-ass protagonist, the story is packed with gripping action as she confronts a powerful demon, proving that Indie authors are not to be underestimated.

Hildenbrand weaves a compelling narrative, skillfully blending elements of the occult, romance, and the darker side of religion. The main characters, Will, Lanie, Church, and Maggie, exude toughness and camaraderie, making them a force to be reckoned with. Their engaging interactions and fascinating backstories keep the reader invested in their journey.

Throughout the novel, the author sprinkles in personal touches, adding an autobiographical flair that enhances the story's authenticity. The romance in the plot adds depth and emotion, creating a perfect balance alongside the intense action scenes.

Hildenbrand's storytelling prowess shines as she expertly unveils jaw-dropping secrets and delivers unexpected plot twists that leave you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. This occult horror is a riveting rollercoaster ride that doesn't hold back on the thrills.

I wholeheartedly recommend "Death Writes" to any horror enthusiast. It's a demon-fighting adventure that proves its worth and establishes Beth Hildenbrand as a true talent in the Indie author community.

It’s a NIGHTMARE until it isn’t!! Are Will’s (Willow) nightmares a ‘carry-over’ and extension of her writer’s machinations or is something else going on? Why’s her neighbor constantly spying on her and her family? (The intimate scenes between Will and Church are 🔥 they aren’t!, Hildenbrand’s’DeathbWrires delivers a powerful punch! Like a delicately woven heirloom tapestry, she captures and holds your senses captive (much like the demon, who will not be denied). Page after page, the characters will touch you in one way or another. A loving bond. A sense of unbreakable friendships. A few shared chuckles. And, most disturbing, a demon whose evil affects each one in one way or another. Its origin, but most importantly, its name must be discovered before the Summer Solstice ends.
Will is plagued by nightmares which have lead her, as an indie author, to turn them into several tales of horror. I saw these as ‘crumbs’ that actually lead you to discover the unsettling truth of Will, her history, her familial relationships and the reality of discovering her being. Will this demon, who has sidetracked that bundle of salt and terrorized both family and friends, (scattered to keep him at bay), be banished? The twists and the whos, and what next abound in this hair-raising tale. Expect the unexpected in this highly recommended read!

An Occult Masterpiece!

As kick-ass protagonist, Willow Alexander, may have mentioned once or twice when it comes to taking down a demon, “You don’t mess with an Indie Author!”

Beth Hildenbrand, the tour-de-force Indie who conjured ‘Death Writes’ created an occult masterpiece. Her main characters—Will, Lanie, Church, and Maggie are tough. Any one of them can outdrink the others under the table, yet hold their own when dealing with a destroyer demon who has surfaced after twenty-five years.

Interweaving autobiographical tidbits, juicy romance, the dark side of religion, and downright riveting storytelling, the author held this reader spellbound. Jaw- dropping secrets are revealed through hairpin plot twists that don’t quit on the last page.

I highly recommend this occult horror which is well-worth its demon-fighting salt.

Great...

I love Beth Hildenbrands' work, both poems and books. It is deliciously dark with a touch of spice to be realistic and loving. The twists and turns in this story were great. I didn't see that coming! Is a phrase I would use to describe this book. All it's elements are well written and come together with ease. It is a good read and well worth picking. Her idea of making her heroine a writer is doubly fun, it's the way an authors mind could work. Reality - fiction. lol The defining line is often blurred ... Loved it...

A very enjoyable small read, you can easily do it in a day. Just who is haunting Willow? The surprise is at the end. There are several enjoyable characters in the book, and funny one off lines (One of my favourite: ‘Don’t mess with an Indie Author!’) Hildenbrand’s characters are tough, independent, not the crying type and determined. I liked the prologue and only put that and the rest together later on in the novel, so it came as a pleasant surprise. If you want a bit of romance, a determined heroine and a twisty plot, then read Death Writes and enjoy.

As a writer whose ideas come from my dreams, I found this story intriguing. The author has added a lot of mature content, just a warning for those who don't like that type of story. I like the character of Willow Alexander. This is a horror tale with some twists and turns. Undecided if it was a three or four-star read, mostly because of adult content, good writing gives the tale a four-star rating.

Death Writes by Beth Hildenbrand was a short but thoroughly entertaining read. I don't read much occult fiction so I didn't know what to expect. Beth gave me humour, action, and a couple of twists that came together nicely at the end.

It's perfect for those who also like their books a bit raunchy, and who enjoy some dark fantasy and romance.

I can't believe the book doesn't have more reviews! If you have a spare few hours in your day, give this one a go!

Beth Hildenbrand's Death Writes packs a lot into a small volume: relatable characters, a story that draws the reader in and some lusty sex. Oh yeah, and a visitor from hell--literally! Or maybe protagonist Willow Alexander, an indie author of the occult and supernatural, is imagining everything. After all, the inspiration for her fiction comes from her dreams. Be careful what you dream about.
Fans of this genre will enjoy the ride. Buckle up!

Death Writes by Beth Hildenbrand has quirky yet relatable characters, a compelling story line and a bit of spice in the mix too. The reader has to work out if Willow Alexander (a writer of occult and supernatural stories), is imagining things or whether the ghosts are real given that her dreams influence her writing. This was my first book of Beth's and wont be my last even though I'm easily spooked!
