I had the priviledge of reading one of the drafts of Problem Solved: Simple Habits for Complex Decisions, and I knew even then that Sarah Ramsey had managed to distill a formula for success that so many people seem to miss, and that even successful people have trouble teaching to others.
As both a business leader and financial coach, I frequently encounter team members and clients who seem to be hindered from reaching their goals by something in their own minds that they can’t get past or by overwhelming problems that they can’t seem to solve. Sarah does an amazing job at illustrating what is happening in the minds of individuals who seem to get stuck on problems that others can navigate effectively. Whether it’s a gravity problem, spaghetti thinking, or one of the many other mental barriers that hold people back, Sarah not only helps the reader understand the nature of the barrier, but how to get around it as well. And she does all this in an engaging and entertaining way.
Problem Solved helps people do three things:
1. Get clear about the problems they are trying to solve. 2. Turn their thinking toward creative solutions. 3. Take action on the problems and solutions within their control.
In terms of style, Problem Solved follows a logical progression of strategies and concepts that build on each other and are intuitive in layout. Although the voice of the book is distinctly female (I had an interesting time imagining myself in a grass skirt and coconut bra as the book suggested), it is by no means intended solely for women. I would wager that almost anyone could benefit from the content in this book.
If you constantly feel beat down by life and feel like you can’t get ahead, you need this book. If you are a leader and you want to learn how to help your team focus on solutions instead of problems, you need this book. If you are a coach or a consultant and you want to better help your clients separate out their problems and address them one at a time, you need this book. For everyone else, you should read it too.
