The author had my attention from page one when she spoke of no time to stop. God was speaking to my spirit that I needed to pay attention as I’ve been recently saying the same thing. I don’t have time to take a day off, I don’t have time to go to the doctor, I don’t have time to relax.

The author then goes on to state that her body had been sending her warning signs which she ignored. Again bells went off in my head as this is a topic that God has been drawing my attention to lately. I am just finishing a study book entitled Image Restored by Rachael Gilbert and in that study she speaks of how our bodies send is messages that we need to pay attention to. And one thing I’ve learned is when I’m getting the same message from multiple sources it’s time to pay attention. Speak Lord for your servant is listening.

At another point in the book the author talks about coming to the point of forgiving herself and the freedom and peace that brought her. I love how she shared her being able to look back at the old person in compassion. This chapter was a call from God for me to release my self incrimination and my striving to my Savior and revive in exchange His deep abiding peace.

I continue to be amazed at how God is using this book to reveal to me the next steps of my journey with Him. It’s like the curtains on darkness and uncertainty have been pulled back to let the light of Gods Word shine through. Each chapter I get glimpses of the abundant life that God has for me and how I can walk in that abundant life while experiencing the difficulties of life in this world of brokenness. The secret is allowing the Holy Spirit to fill me and enable me.

I love how the author so vulnerably shares her own struggles that led to this revelation. In this manner I realized that this breakthrough is possible for me as well. As I e said before I can see my life story alongside hers and realize if God can restore her joy, I can find His joy too.

Each chapter is a short readings that makes for easy daily readings. And then each chapter ends with a poetic dialogue between God and the reader that is so raw and fresh. This dialogue is in the form of a poem the author entitled My Fathers Heart, which is God speaking and a prayer, which is us speaking to God. These poetic dialogues are my favorite part of the whole book even though the rest of the book is inspiring, convicting and thought provoking, these poems are like the cream cheese icing on top of a delicious cake.

As I journey with the author on her walk with the Holy Spirit, I feel a longing arise with me to walk step by step with the Spirit letting Him speak into my everyday situations and interactions. I love how the Holy Spirit reveals insights with the author that allows her to minister to those she comes in contact with. I long to be more aware of the Spirits leading as well. Too often we feel the Spirit leading and we resist and over time we become less attuned to His guidance. Or we have so much noise on our lives that we don’t even hear Him. That is what is so great about this book. It will awake in you the reader a desire to tune into the Spirit, to listen for His leading and to obey.

Quoting from Fathers Heart in chapter 10, “My Spirit will guide you to the best teaching for your circumstance which will help you to step out in My freedom once more.” This quote sums up this book for me as God used the teaching in this book to call me to grow deeper in my relationship with Him.

A quote from chapter 14 accurately describe how God used this book in my life. “Hope was being restored…like being in the desert with an empty bucket and having cool, refreshing water poured in and filled back up.”
