a more concise version of the sealed nectar by the same author. may Allah swt continue to make this author’s work a means for them to gain higher ranks in jannah, ameen <3
Reading this book in its entirety during the month of Ramadan has just renewed my profound love I have for my Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) and the Ummah.
This book was very easy to read but so difficult because of the hardships and trials that the Prophet (PBUH) and the Muslims at this time had to face. The hardships show an insight into the character of my Prophet (PBUH) and how resilient he was and how he never wavered in spreading the message of Islam.
The detailed account of the Prophet’s (PBUH) life, actions, and doings are incredibly detailed, it was so refreshing and really nourished me during this month of Ramadan. It also helped strengthen my emaan and when reading the Qur’an. I read and look at it in a different way because of the understanding that the Qur’an came as a revelation bit by bit in different circumstances and situations, difficulties and tribalities to my Prophet (PBUH). Every letter, every ayah, every Surah, has such a beautiful and deep meaning to it and reading this book has helped with also understanding the Qur’an better. I took so much from this book; it will always stay with me and without a doubt will re-read it time and time again.
May Allah grant the highest level of Jannah to the writer of this book. Ameen And now onto ‘The Sealed Nectar’.
Another classic!!!! "When the Moon Split" by Safiur-Rahman Mubarakpuri is a book of seerah (biography of the Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam), and unlike some of the more dense and dry English texts on the topic, flows well and illustrates the life of RasulAllah in a manner easy to understand and follow.
It is absolutely a necessary part of any Muslamic home library - perhaps not as fancy as newer books out there, but it is a tried and true resource that one can always come back to. It's fairly easy for tweens and teens to get through as well, though they may initially find it a little boring - which, frankly, is a skill they need to pick up anyway.
It's definitely a great resource for someone who is new to the topic as well, as it isn't overwhelmingly academic or bogged down with details that require background knowledge.
This book was excellent. I have a totally new understanding of the hardships of the Prophet Muhammad and the Muslims of his time. They were mistreated to a level I could never have imagined before reading this book. I will definitely read it again insha'Allah.
Really informative book about the Prophet (SAW) and his life, from the incidents before his birth, to his last day on earth.
The the beginning parts of this book were briefly explained meanwhile towards the end, the incidents (especially the wars) were explained very detailed. Also every single person's name was mentioned, and for a non-Arab like me, the names were easy to mix. That's why it would be better if not everyone's name was mentioned (such as every messenger the Prophet had sent to the kings around the world) But other than that it was an amazing book. I love how this book mentions most of the ayahs that were revealed for a specific reason with their meanings and when they were revealed.
conclusion: I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a detailed biography of the Prophet (SAW) and the wars he attended.
May Allah Grant us a place under the Prophet's standard on the Day of Judgment. Ameen! 🤲🏼
This book is a great choice if one wants to read about Prophet Muhammad(SAW) for the first time. It basically gives an account of the major events that took place in the life of the Holy Prophet(SAW). No lengthy commentaries are given, just the bare facts, which helps the reader to analyse things for themselves. The only thing that I did not appreciate in regards with this book was that it was a little to brief and focused a little too much on the battles. I know that they are important, however, I like more to read about the small incidents that show his good character and give an insight into his personality. This book does lack those little moments, which have become so dear to the muslims in general.
This book is a brief study of the history of Islam from the birth of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH to the last pilgrimage. The story narration style of the writer is excellent, well detailed, and easily comprehendible. The writer has tried to provide the slightest detail that enriches the mind of readers and keep them active while reading the book. However, the people who already had read another book written by this author which is "The Sealed Nectar" need not read this book. It has similar material. Even "The Sealed Nectar" is more detailed. But the people who want to read all about that specific period in a short span of time must go for this book.
Covers almost every important event in the life of Prophet Muhammad SAW in a brief and concise manner which makes it very easy to read and comprehend.
I feel it is important for every Muslim to have the basic knowledge of how the religion of Islam was perfected and spread throughout Arabia during the life of the Prophet SAW and also, to the very least, be briefed with the names of the Companions.
A must-have on the shelf of every Muslim. And a book that needs to be read again and again and again, even if it is just 2 pages a day, until you truly learn the history of this beautiful religion.
Seronok.
Ive read prophet’s bio the sealed nectar. This is like a completion to that book. There’s some additional info that wasnt in the sealed nectar. Good references from quran and hadith. Def a good read 🌟
Synopsis: The biography of the Prophet is a very noble and exalted subject by which Muslims learn about the rise of Islam, and how the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was chosen by Allah to receive the divine revelation. You also learn about the hardships of the Prophet and his Companions faced, and how they eventually succeeded with Allah’s help.
I savoured this book over several months with my 9 year old son. In a bid to teach him in more detail about the story of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), and an opportunity for me to revisit my own childhood teachings, we decided to read it together, and it did not disappoint.
This book is comprised of the main life events spanning from the birth until death of the Prophet (pbuh). There is enough depth, detail and context to allow for a level understanding and reflection, but at the same time the writing style is simple, concise, and accessible. The chapters are well organised, with ample pictures and smart diagrams, which helped to consolidate the lessons, and keep a young mind engaged. Each chapter concludes with a summary of “Lessons and Morals” and a set of questions based on the information within.
We enjoyed the abundance of Quranic references, which helped to give context to the revelation of those verses and gain a deeper understanding. I found the penultimate section very beautiful as it gives a description of the appearance and character of the Prophet (pbuh).
As a Muslim it was spiritually uplifting to study this book, and to find inspiration and role models through the Prophet (pbuh) himself, as well as his loyal family and companions. It will most definitely be revisited again, for both enjoyment and as an Islamic reference book.
Although this book is the Biography of our Nabi Muhammad ﷺ But I'm not going to decode His life here, since we all are aware of it. We know our prophet's father (Abdullah) died before his birth and his mother (Amna) died when he was 6 years old. His paternal uncle Abu Talib later took care of him. We all know He had 4 daughters and 3 sons, He got Prophethood at the age of 40, He performed 4 umrahs and 1 hajj in his life, he got married to Khadijah R.A at the age of 25. He left this world when He turned to 63. His most beloved wife was Ayesha R.A. He is the Khatam-un-nabiyeen, people called him by the names of Al-Sadiq, Al-Amin (The Honest, The Trustworthy). We all know these things right? Therefore, In this review, I'm sharing a few lessons I learned from "When the Moon Split", some words that make you read it. - The first thing I've comprehended is to never complain about little elements that happen in our lives. Because these complaints take you away from Allah and there comes a time when people get disconnected too. - To sit in a quiet place daily for at least 15 minutes and discover yourself, find yourself, talk with yourself just like our Nabi ﷺ did before the prophethood. He ﷺ used to sit in the cave Hira to find out His purpose of life and to find Allah SWT. - We all should actively indulge in activities that increase our knowledge, increase our Imaan because our Prophet ﷺ believed that knowledge brought us closer to Allah. - Stay on the path of truth (seerat-e-mustaqeem) even if the majority is practicing corruption. And, And I learned how to forgive people. Remember that woman who used to throw Garbage on the path of our Nabi ﷺ and He Ignored it always but once she felt sick and did not throw rubbish so Prophet Muhammad ﷺ went to visit her, by seeing the greatness of Muhammad ﷺ she started crying and ended up embracing to Islam. . . Today even though the Muslims are countless but we do not occupy the distinguished level amongst the nations anymore, because we have forgotten to hold to “the two momentous things” that our Prophet ﷺ left behind for us. We may still be a candidate to lead mankind to bliss if we ensure to adhere to the teachings of the Muhammad ﷺ in our lives. May we always remember and strive to follow the example of our Nabi ﷺ. Ameen!
I was introduced to “When the Moon Split” by a friend during Ramadan and I couldn’t think of a better book to read and reflect upon during the month. It started with the Prophet’s life, his struggles, and his constant dedication to spreading the message of Islam. This book not only provided a detailed depiction of the Prophet’s journey but also shed light on the incredible sacrifices made by him and early Muslims.
It gave a deeper understanding behind the wisdom in every verse, surah, and message in the Quran, why each one was sent for a specific difficulty or time. It pushed me to do a lot of research, which I continue to do as there is always so much to learn! And as usual I will always have deep admiration of the Prophet’s character. Despite the hardships, wars, and mistreatment, his patience, his perseverance, and his heart remained steadfast in kindness and in faith. Even knowing what happens I was still moved by the emotional toll.
Even so, reading about how people during the Prophet’s time also dealt with guilt, ungratefulness, and the constant internal struggles, reminded me of our own humanity. As humans we carry guilt, we feel deeply, and we can sometimes be ungrateful but the people’s constant desire to improve and their gratitude towards god, even when forgiveness was hard, left me with a renewed sense of humility.
This is book serves as a brief and consise telling of the Seerah. Normally a 320 page book would be a quick read for myself however I had to take it slow and mindfully. The Prophet ﷺ went through so many hardships to spread the message of Islam. It is hard at times reading through those hardships.
Reading this slowly allows you to digest each section. I would highly recommend reading this particular Seerah first over others if you are just starting out. This book increases your love for our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ❤️
More often than not we ponder learning more about Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) life, his etiquettes, sunnah and teachings, and the advent of Islam, but are left with limited authentic resources. When The Moon Split is the concise version of the book Sealed Nectar, an account of the most beloved and influential person in the history of humankind, Prophet Muhammad(SAW). Easy to understand yet sublime text and chronological description of events makes this read fairly easy for readers of all faiths. This intriguing masterpiece is one of those books in to which you get utterly absorbed and you keep on propelling pages, devouring the insights of Prophet Muhammad’s SAW life and his character, his family and companions, pre islamic life in Arab, the age of Jahilliya, Islamic teachings, the rise of islam, and the major historical events. Needless to say it’s one of the must have books for every muslim household, a read you won’t get tired re-reading. P.S. Keep your pen handy to take notes on various duas invoked by our dearest Prophet Muhammad SAW.
very well written, interesting from start to end (which is honestly the best recommendation you could get from someone who before 2023 had never finished a non-fiction book she started voluntarily). glad i picked this book up. it was becoming a bit embarrassing how little i remembered about early islamic history lol
Good starter to the biography of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Small and concise, very to-the-point description of the events avoiding without delving into much detail. One can start with this one to know about the skeleton of the Prophetic journey of life, and later on adorn it with more information from other more-detailed books of Seerah.
it made me really sad to put down this book without finishing it, but it really wasn’t what i was looking for— it’s very superficial and reads like “pointers” than an actual biography. i was looking for smthn a bit more in depth and proper, with citations and direct verses/incidents that have translated to islam as it is now. sadly this wasn’t anything of the sort and i, well, didn’t want to read my grade 7 islamiat book all over again.
that said, i’m not gonna rate it because it’s not exactly a “bad” book/biography— just not what i wanted. it could very well be an excellent book for someone just starting out to learn more about the Holy Prophet (PBUH), or someone looking for a rough overview.
It was an amazing book and especially the fact that it presented almost all the details in such precise and easy way is beyond Compend able. There were so many things and details that were refreshing for memory and heart, and reading about beloved Prophet (saw) surely gives immense pleasure to the soul of a muslim. The end of the book although was a little sad and it never fails to amaze me that the life and times of Prophet's life were so demanding, never a dull moment with the polytheists always ready with creating more havoc.
I liked this a lot better than Sealed Nectar (which I never finished). Obviously i read the English translations and i think this is a lot easier to read, less stiff. It's really well written--the battle of Uhud read like a novel, honestly. Definitely will reread this some time.
'O Ansar, you have shown displeasure because I gave some goods to such and such people so that they may embrace Islam. You, however, I entrusted with Islam. O Ansar, are you not satisfied that these men should take away sheep and goats while you go back with the Prophet of Allāh? I swear by the One Who holds the life of Muhammad in His hand, if there had been no migration , I would have been one of the Ansar myself. If everyone took one path and the Ansar took another, I would follow the Ansar. O Allāh, have mercy on the Ansar, their sons and their sons' sons'." (266-267)
"When the Prophet ﷺ is subjected to scorching heat, should I enjoy cool shade, water and the sweet company of beautiful women? This is not just! By Allāh, I shall not enter my house until I meet the prophet ﷺ." (Abu Khaythama, who had stayed behind with his wives, from the expedition to Tabuk.)"
A simple and easy read compared to the sealed nectar which I was somewhat struggling with. This is a better option for beginner readers on the Prophet's ﷺ biography. In my experience this book was very well written, the kind of book that you can't put down, where it feels like you are actually there witnessing the events. ﷺ
Live the path to freedom and democracy, every religion preaches us to live with peace, share love, at the same time the followers of the religions duty-bound of acceptance and respect every religion in the accordance of morale higher. Having said the Islamic religion teaches us about the hardship the prophet and his companions faced, and how they eventually succeeded.
The lesson that this religion preaches wherever you live or travel on this planet you must grow your knowledge. Wellbeing is an important factor to have a disciplined life with tolerance, religion guides us as a signal in both good and bad like the two sides of the coin. The creation of humans by God and nature for the purpose of mankind. The life of humans not only to tempt happiness and comfort but also to experience the salvation of suffering and pain, hungry and thirsty and this will be a fortune to set up a beautiful path in human life.
In my conclusion of this book, every human has their own choice in their life, and death is inevitable, the ultimate is unknown, the unknown is infinity, and I believe the infinity is God almighty.
"When The Moon Split" is a book of seerah (biography of the Prophet Muhammed), the topic flows well and illustrates the life of RasulAllah in a manner easy to understand and follow.
Its a must read for every muslim, covers almost every important event in the life of Prophet Muhammad SAW in a brief and concise manner which makes it very easy to read and comprehend.
There were so many things and details that were refreshing for memory and heart, and reading about beloved Prophet (saw) surely gives immense pleasure to the soul of a muslim.
Although it wasnt a fully in depth biography it was some basic events and lessons every muslim should know, would love a extended version of this book which talks about the topics in depth.
It's definitely a great resource for someone who is new to the topic as well, as it isn't overwhelmingly academic or bogged down with details that require background knowledge.
Actually it's a difficult job to introduce the world's most influential person's life in a 320 page book. But the Author tried his best by providing the important events in short throughout the book. I've read another biography of Prophet Muhammmad (SWA) which is a bit extended version from this book. To few people, some of the events noted here may seem discrete in some contexts because of the summerized version of the concept or the far extended concept of the event. I can connect the dots as I've read the other book. Even though it's short, it elaborately described the nature, the power, the personality of the Prophet (SWA). How he suffered and reached to people to show the light of Islam. His mission was to deliver the message he got from Allah and he successfully delivered. Now, we must follow his footprints and hold the standard of Islam above all. Mubarakpuri tried his best and I hope he'll be rewarded for this amazing work in hereafter.
wonderful introduction to the life of our beloved prophet, peace be upon him. written clearly and concisely with ample astute inclusions of quranic verses and hadith. so enthralling i genuinely found it difficult to put down each time i went to read it! the miracles and trials they all went through were just astounding
at times a bit bogged down by bureaucratic details (which does make sense since much of the expansion of islam required bureaucracy), a clearer timeline and maps may also have been useful to most clearly follow everything chronologically and geographically. footnotes/citations for additional information was the only other aspect i thought was lacking, since there were so many details i wanted to learn more about having a list of sources may have helped
may Allah bless this author for providing such an informative body of work!
This was an amazing book. Its simple read great for teens to learn about the Prophet SAW life and the battle and also about his companions, how they accepted Islam. This book also talked about the hardship that Muslim when through during battles or Prophet SAW went through when the nonbeliever taunt him SAW.
Also, I felt by adding the Qurani verses it helps clear the picture what kind a message we as a reader have to learn and this is why I felt this book is not only talks about the history of Prophet SAW but also with him SAW we see the History his SAW companions, Islam, Muslims, the kings, nonbelievers and also his SAW character.
The book is a wonderful piece of work if you are new to Seerah (biography) of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, or want a refresher of Seerah.
The author has divided the text into easily digestable chunks with little to none confusing jargon. The mentioning of Quranic verses throughout the text is very beneficial in understanding the context and development of events.
All the major events of Seerah have been mentioned in this book, with some taking one into extra details and emotional experiences.
I highly recommend this book if you are new to Seerah and want to increase your understanding and love for the Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
By far, this is my favourite book about the biography of Rasulullah s.a.w. From this book, I discovered some more details of the Prophet s.a.w. that I didn't know before. No doubt, he is the greatest man in the entire world. All the wars and fights that he had gone through for us, his ummah. The turbulence, hardships and mistreatment that he'd face in spreading Islam, I never knew it before in such detail.
May we all Muslims always be guided in the right path and increase our love towards Allah & Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. This book undoubtedly not only increased my knowledge about prophet Muhammad s.a.w. life, but also increase my longing for him in a way that is hard to express. And may we'll give a chance to reunite with him in the hereafter :') I will definitely read it again in the future inshaAllah <3
