Adaline Winters

Adaline Winters writes heroines who bite back and the alpha males who fall to their knees because of it. Known for weaving sizzling tension with deadly twists, she delights in leading readers through stories full of betrayal, desire, and the kind of cliffhangers that leave you cursing her name—and still begging for more. If there’s one promise she makes, it’s this: her heroines will never go quietly, and her heroes will never come out unscathed.

She lives in England’s Lake District, where the scenery is dramatic, the weather is stubbornly grey, and the dog in her house is somehow even more chaotic than her characters. Her husband and daughter are used to conversations being interrupted by sudden mutterings about plot twists or declarations like, “What if I just kill him instead?”

When she’s not plotting new ways to make her readers scream (and swoon), Adaline is probably crocheting blankets that never turn out quite square, or losing precious writing time to her daily Wordle obsession. She claims it’s brain training for crafting fiendish plot twists—but in truth, she just likes to win.

Romance novels are her first love, especially those where strong, sharp-tongued heroines drive alpha males to the brink of madness. That’s the energy she channels into every book she writes: sharp, sexy, a little ruthless, and completely addictive.
If you like your stories dangerous, your tension sizzling, and your heroes utterly undone by the women who refuse to bow… welcome to her worlds.

What happened? Seriously… WHAT HAPPENED?!? How did a really fun and promising series dive bomb so fast? Well… let’s count the ways:

1. Cora went from a strong, kickbutt but kind heroine to a completely TSTL, wimpy victim.
2. Hudson went from a force to be reckoned with, all powerful beast to an emasculated, cardboard side character.
3. Sebastian devolved into a completely useless, whinny sad-sap who does absolutely nothing.
4. Evil, anti-hero grandma morphs into all-encompassing mega villain complete with demonic laugh.
5. The story degenerates into a completely confusing mess that makes no rational sense… ei: giving the most evil book in the world over? Never even thinking those black cards might mean something? AGAIN, letting the big evil just walk away (oh, there are SO many ways they could have caught them and still saved the day. It doesn’t even take an ounce of brainpower to figure a few out.)
6. A cliffhanger ending…. Really? And, the next installment isn’t scheduled to publish until the end of the year.

Oh, the list - or complaints - could go on and on. Suffice it to say, my orderly brain couldn’t make heads nor tales of the whys and hows and how comes. So little of it made rational sense.

It did keep me turning the pages, though. I didn’t throw it at a wall, so there is that. Verdict is still out on if I’ll try to continue, however.

Well, this one kind of shit the bed. So much so that I'm doubtful I'll bother with book 4 when it comes out later this year.

There were a lot of problems, but the chief one is that Cora suddenly took a turn towards TSTL, and I've finally come to the conclusion that she talks like a badass but is actually ultimately useless.

We didn't get to see her in a lot of action in the first two books - she didn't really handle any of the problems - but I was tolerant because she had to keep her magical heritage secret. In this book, she finally ditched the secret and fully engaged...and got her ass handed to her repeatedly. She was a stupid, pathetic chump. In this book, we see her get played like a fiddle, act utterly brainless about obvious things (raise your hand if you didn't realize those cards combined to be a summoning thing. No one? No one? Right, so we all saw that was super obvious except Cora), and just let herself get tortured nearly to death. Twice she had the bad guys in her hand, and twice she let them go. She is a world-class dumbass in this book, and needs to get sit in the corner with a blankie while the adults handle the problem, because she is clearly incapable.

Speaking of dumb shit, evil grandma has figured out how to summon Cora - she summons her and binds her, to torture her in an effort to steal Cora's power. She's rescued ... and this is time number two in the book where the chumps that are Team Good Guy just let the leaders of Team Bad Guy go. But like, what's the solve to the summoning issue? Why didn't evil grandma summon her again as soon as she got to a new lair? That's right, there's no reason. All this effort to rescue Cora the Useless after she's summoned, only to let the summoner go so they can all do this all over again soon. Best plotline ever!

The other major problem is that grandma, who was always a bit sketch but in a weird gray way - she was a bitch, but she has stepped in to help them several times, even risking her life to save her daughter in the last book - suddenly morphs into a full-on cartoon Doctor Evil-style villain. I mean, it's fucking ridiculous, complete with evil glares galore, glee while torturing family, etc. No gray area here, Doctor Evil Grandma literally, at one point, drags her bound and gagged daughter to the front lines of a fight and threatens to have her daughter (Cora's aunt) raped by her whole army unless Cora hands over Macguffin Evil Book, and allows Team Evil to leave. Cora does this immediately, so it's an all-around win for Cartoonishly Evil Grandma.

Even more amazing is that Cora bends over backwards in this book to keep people from going after psycho bitch granny. Cora knows her grandma is a mass murderer pretty early in this book, but she hides that info as much as possible, and even makes a deal with Lucifer to keep him from going after grandma when grandma starts massacring his people. Why? No reason. Just Cora being pathetic in literally every possible way.

It's really, really bad. I mean, two stars is being generous.

This is such an inventive series and one I've been so impressed by.

The plot, action and twists are excellent, the relationship development is mature and gets you rooting for them (they actually talk like adults through their issues rather than unnecessary drama) and the side characters are loveable.

If you like Urban Fantasy this really is a hidden gem!

Sometimes a series can just be a duet 🙄

Now this started pretty good, one thing I've really liked about this series is that we don't get a lot of unnecessary backstory of stuff that's happened in the previous books we just continue from where the previous book left off....kudos to the author for that

Nowww
Cora's grandmother has upped the stakes once again in her quest to rule over all. Demon summoning, poisoning of humans murder and mayhem abound as she seeks to gather as much power as she can
****

Now in the previous books Cora's grandmother is the scheming leader of the order but as this book went on it got more and more comvulated, by the end I was rolling my eyes because this woman is suddenly painted as everything that goes bump in the night
I've loved Cora throughout this series but cmon by the end of this she was a joke! All that power and they square off with her grandmother twice and she's just allowed to leave?? Clearly this is just to stretch the series out further but it turned a beloved character into a tstl h and just pissed me off
Why don't authors quit with one bad guy instead of dragging out that one plotline and making the mcs look weak and incompetent? I promise you that had the grandmother been ended in this book I'd have still read the next Cora Roberts book just because there really are some likeable characters in here, now I'm annoyed and pissed off and not looking forward to the next
Any who's stupid cliffhanger because of course three books just aren't enough 🙄

My goodness, where do I begin?

From the moment I read book one, I just knew I was in for a paranormal treat.

Adaline did NOT disappoint with this series! I’m not gonna tell you about ANYTHING!! You have to experience the life of Cora Roberts for yourself, I promise you won’t be disappointed… hot, and bothered, but not disappointed.

See you on the Cora Roberts side😉

I absolutely love this series. It just gets better and better each book. I absolutely love Cora & Hudson’s relationship and finding how they fit into each others lives. Cora is fiercely independent and she is a total kick ass FMC. I love all her friends especially Harry, I think he is such a cutie. I hope there is more of Cora and the gang because I will never get bored reading about them ♥️

Fab read

Once again I found myself drawn into Cora Roberts' world. I feel as if I'm a ghostly bystander watching everything unfurl before Cora, Hudson and the other residents of White Castle.

This book is all I can think about and well... pineapples, pineapples, pineapples!

Couldn't rate this any higher because the two pinnacle points in the story were TSTL moments.

Cliff Hanger

Since I’ve seen no further books or promises of books in this series, I have to assume this is the last and final. Ending it on a cliff hanger does NOT make me want to read any other books by this author. If there are more books in this series, I can be wrong but I’m still very disappointed.

great reading until the end.

It was a wonderful read until the stupid cliff hager ending in the 3 rd book of a 3 book series . Not a fan of setting up a new series with a huge cliffhanger at the end of another series. For your own piece of mind i would not read this it gas no ending.

I read this one because I liked the cover and also, because I thought it's the last book in this series.

The FL is very passive character who continuously talks like she is The Powerhouse. She rarely takes any action and when she does she fails at her task. And this sums up both book 2 and 3.

I guess book 1 fared better because of all the on the nose ' inspirations' from some great works.

ok

This was ok but I struggled with Cora’s indecision and doubt after declaring her mate. Not a fan of torture which there is a lot of. Nor a fan of a cliffhanger ending - lazy writing. You should want to return for the world and the characters.

Serpents of the Dawn starts of at a less than idle place, Cora is still harbouring doubts about the strength and depth of Hudson's devotion. But after what he did in the previous book I think things will resolve itself pretty quickly. She is finally intune more with the dark power that lives inside her, accepting her other half and the extra knowledge this brings about herself.

Cora can't catch a break, as another foe comes out of the woodwork to terrorise humanity, her friends and her family and from the most unlikeliest of places. Her father makes another appearance but he will not be winning any father of the year awards! She finally accepts to being Hudson's mate but this brings its own problems. Cora has spent so much of her life since what happened with her previous boyfriend, on the defensive, protecting herself and her heart so fiercely she finds it hard to give up her independence and compromise.

It wouldn't be a typical Cora Roberts novel without some dead bodies to examine and this time there is a lot on a huge unimaginable scale. And the sweet, kind, loving Grandmother Eloise is at the heart of things! Did you detect my sarcasm? Her grandmother commits the most despicable crimes yet, doing things Cora never would have imagined or anticipated and therefore is unprepared for them. Ever since we met her it was evident that Eloise was evil incarnate waiting in the background to promote her own agenda whilst the world was distracted by other things and Serpents of the Dawn final reveals her nefarious plans and how truly dakr her heart and soul really is!

Sebastian has a head to head with his father, which both warmed my heart and made me want to crawl into the book and strangle Leon with my bare hands. As always Cora is nearby to help her best friend in anyway she can, despite Hudson's disapproval. Dave is being Dave, Maggie and Aunt Liz are cooking up a storm and Maggie surprises them by cooking them something extremely strange looking and yet it tasted ....... not bad???!!!

Hudson is feeling insecure about his mate bond with Cora and he should be as he has a lot of grovelling to do before things can be even remotely fixed. Unfortunately for him, there are certain other members of Cora's family who want to sow seeds of doubt. Will Hudson be able to prove himself to Cora? Will they be able to stop Eloise before it's too late? Will Indigo devour everyone's soul? You better pick up this book to find out!

World of Illusion

Cora is back!! This book kicks everything up and as if her life wasn’t already hectic enough, Grandma Eloise is officially on our naughty list. Book three gives us so many answers we have been asking ourselves for, but now, none of it will matter if Eloise gets what she wants.

The relationship between Cora and Hudson is officially set. They are both finally accepting they are each-others mates and are prepared for any consequences that may face them head on. (Here comes the Bridal magazines!) Cora also comes to the conclusion that Indigo is as much of her as she is and it is time her inner circle know about her. With this, Cora realizes she has her own army behind her, her own team. She is unwilling to gamble the life she has and the people around her when they all mean so much.

“Just remember, whatever happens, my heart beats in tandem with yours.”

This book continues with a ride on the crazy train. Eloise is attempting world domination by summoning beings and siphoning power in order to create an army that will only cause more harm than good.

Will Cora be able to beat her Grandmother, even after having been put through the ringer herself? Will Cora’s family, the family she chose, help her along the way? Does love conquer all and will she be able to stay safe with Hudson while everything is crashing down around them? The way the book ended - what is that about and can we get more ASAP? Also i loved Aunt Sophia and definitely want to see more of her too!

When the ending comes, and I swear it comes to fast, we are left with yet again more questions! Cora just cannot catch a break! I think this is my favorite book in the series so far. I loved it! It was consuming. So many things were happening for the ultimate story and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I can’t wait to see how book 4 turns out! The author always does such an amazing job of giving us an intricate storyline, you never know where she will take it!

“Love makes you vulnerable… …Vulnerability is the bridge to belonging. If you open your heart, you can experience joy, love, courage, and hope. These are the things that mark our souls with light. If you can’t be vulnerable, then you will always live in the dark.”

*Overall 5/5
*Heat? 4/5
*Cora - First person POV
*Ends on light, but WTF was that moment cliffhanger

Spoilers

There were a lot of inconsistencies that didn't make sense in this book. An example being how cora keeps talking about her betrayal to the family when all she did was create a Fail-Safe so if something happened she knew what has taken from the vault. How is that betrayal? I just felt that the common sense in the book was lacking. Or her reluctance to do a reading in front of people because she is vulnerable but then doesn't think twice about it when Lucifer asks her to do some readings for him. She just hands him a juice box and says "give this to me when I wake up"

The author also heavily implied that Sebastian would be a possible love interest if not a bit of unrequited love and then we're sprung with him being gay. I don't have an issue with his sexuality, but I do have an issue with some pretty blatant deception and misleading just so you can have a shock in your book.

I also didn't like the randomly added bits of info. At one point cora goes to hell and when she returns this happens,

“You were gone.”

My hands tightened in his shirt. “You knew that.”

His eyes flipped open and green rolled over them. “No, you don’t understand. I can sense you in the world. You could be a thousand miles away and I would still feel the beat of your heart against mine, but you were gone.”

“Is that a mate thing?”

Hudson shrugged. “I don’t believe it’s a typical mate thing. But what about us is typical?”

Like where was this info when they started dating? When they were officially mates? A few chapters ago? It literally is just sprung on us with no warning or foreshadowing or anything. It came out of left field and didn't add much to the story. I'm fine with the fated mates, soulmate, special connection trope but give us some warning or lead up before dropping bombs.

I also don't like the constant change in how indigo and cora speak to each other. Is it out loud? In their head? Sometimes it's in italics and sometimes it's not. Some consistently would be nice.

Grandmother Eloise wasn't a believable villain which made the whole book a little bland as well. I'm really not sure why but it just all seemed tacky. If I'm being honest overall I wouldn't continue the series if there was more than one book but since we're almost done I'll stick it out for a bit longer.

Once again, Adaline Winters has completely blown me away, I am speechless. Upon opening the book, you get sucked right into the continuation of this thrilling world between these pages. Filled with bucket loads of intrigue and mystery, chemistry that is off the charts, a possessive alpha, a sassy elemental and a made family that will leave you giggling… what’s not to love? The humour in this book is brilliant, I snorted whilst laughing far too many times. This book sends your thoughts racing a hundred miles an hour trying to work things out, it sends your emotions all over the place. So many of the feelings in this book just hits, having left me feeling a wide range, from love to anger to heartbreak.
Warning: You will not be a functioning adult whilst reading. You’ll end up sleep deprived, hiding in your bathroom to read as much as you can, ignoring all of your adult responsibilities and simply ignoring the real world.
I didn’t think Cora could, but she gets even sassier and funnier within this book, as well as being the b@d@ass lady we’ve seen previously. If you didn’t already love Cora, then you will now. She has definitely become one of my favourite leading ladies.
Hudson will melt your heart and your panties. Romantic and possessive, this alpha will capture your heart and refuse to let go. So many times, I swooned and if Cora ever doesn’t want him, then I will gladly take him off her hands. I need my own Hudson. The way he loves is beautiful to read. As well as the scorching hot chemistry between the two, there’s these profound moments that will leave you breathless wishing for your very own Hudson.
I loved reading this book so much! It is amazing. I loved getting to see old characters as well as getting to know new ones. If you pick this book up, you will not regret it. It is phenomenal

Ok so firstly, I, for some reason, thought this was the last book of a trilogy. It is not. It does, in fact, end on a cliffhanger. So I did spend a good few chapters nearing the end wondering just how this was all going to be resolved in a satisfactory way.

As usual for this series, there’s a fair bit going on.

An entire town dead, demons being summoned and drained, another town having some messed up things going on. And on top of all that, it’s pretty clear that Cora’s evil grandma is connected to all of these things.

If that’s not enough, Coda accepts Hudson’s mate claim publicly, and of course it starts a conflict within the shifters’ ranks.

And if that’s still not enough drama for you, Cora keeps receiving these strange cards in the mail…and completely ignoring them! Like she doesn’t even tell anyone about them. They’re ominous, carry traces of magic, have no indication of who sent them or what they mean…and she has zero curiosity over them? It doesn’t make sense to me. I’d have immediately shown someone and wondered if they had anything to do with all of the crazy going on around me.

That was really the only thing that annoyed me. The rest of the book was great. Good banter, growly alpha, mystery, intrigue, rage-inducing hatred for the bad guy. And you can’t help but love Indigo, the psycho.

Harry too. Pineapples, pineapples, pineapples, pineapples…

I am absolutely LOVING this series!! This is the third book in the Cora Roberts series, and I swear each book just keeps getting better and better!

At the end of book 2, Shadows of the Soul, there were some pretty big revelations, which had me super excited and left me needing answers! In this book we get those answers and learn so much more about Cora and her abilities.
There’s also something major happening within the Supernatural Factions, and something or someone is pulling Cora right smack dab in the centre of it all. Cora is determined to find out who’s behind all the strange occurrences taking place and will stop at nothing to take down those responsible for putting the world in danger.

One of the things I love about this book is all the different supernatural elements! There’s elementals (witches), shifters, vampires, angels, demons, spirits - everything you could possibly want in a paranormal story! I don’t often see such a large mix of supernaturals in the books I usually read so I’m really loving that aspect in this series!
The other thing I love about these books is how unpredictable they are! Just when you think you’ve got the storyline figured out - BAM! Another plot twist!

Like with the previous books in the series, I absolutely devoured this book and can’t wait for the next one to release! I need to know what’s gonna happen next with Cora and friends!

We are back!!!!!

Back in White Castle with Cora and the gang, and the absolute hell that is seems to be raining down on them. Just when you think things couldn't get any worse...bam!!! Adaline tips the scales even further.

I absolutely loved this book. I loved how much Cora seems to have grown in herself, in her relationship with Indigo and with Hudson. She's definitely growing her wings, and even though she may have felt doubt in herself, questioning her faith and her bond. We see her for who she truly is..a badass motherf****r. Someone who fights for her loved ones, and for the people who cannot fight for themselves. She will go into battle baring her teeth at full speed. Even if it's against her own blood.
She's also got the most loving soul anyone could every have.
Cora is definitely someone you want on your side.

But...

Why??!!!?? Why did you end it like that???

I don't know if I want to hug the shit out of you or throttle you, for this book Adaline.

Just a brilliant story that has weaved into my heart and soul. And one series I cannot wait for the next instalment.

Adaline has absolutely knocked it out of the park with the third instalment of her Cora Roberts series. I finished reading this a couple of days ago but have only now been able to sit down and review. The shock, the awe and the amazement of this book has had me in a chokehold.

The characters, the story building, the plot, everything was just pure perfection. It was so great to see Cora back with her ragtag gang and I loved every second of the adventure. Having been a huge fan of Adaline since her first ever release, I can’t tell you how excited I was to get an ARC of this book and I can honestly say they just keep getting better and better.

Sarcasm, chaos, badass heroine and sass. This book has it all and it’s a definite MUST READ! Now live so get your copy now!

P.S. The fact that I have a cameo in this book had no bearing on my review… It honestly didn’t but bonus points if you can spot where I feature!

Prepare for sleepless nights, kindle throwing due to tension, spontaneous guffaws outloud and the complete withdrawal from the real world. But this book is so worth every second of it. Also, HUDSON! <3

So far out of the three books from this series, this one was my fave 🥰.

Adaline’s imagination is beyond this world, your sucked in to her worlds after the first chapter. Which is why when I look for paranormal books she’s one of my go to authors.

I like how every book is a different adventure, bringing back are favourite characters from this series.

I loved 🥰 seeing Cora, finally start to open up, and accept that Hudson is going nowhere…. 😅😅

I was so happy to read about my favourite blood sucker 😜 Sebastian was more present in this book than the second it made me extra giddy…. Especially the parts between him and Hudson 😂😂😂

And what can I say about the one who stole the show…… sorry Cora but Indigo is taking the number one spot for me 🤣🤣🤣 she had me laughing out loud.

The action came out of nowhere, as I figured it would and it did not disappoint.

It ends in a major cliffhanger….. I kept trying to flip to the next chapter, it didn’t happen.
Adaline I need the next book asap!!

If you’re looking for a Sherlock Holmes type of series but in a paranormal world, I highly recommend it ❤️‍🔥

I honestly didn't think I could love Cora and Hudson more, I was wrong they are absolute perfection. Serpents of the Dawn exceeded every expectation I had from the end of Shadows of the Soul.

Once again Cora has a mystery to solve and this time it involves family. Her grandmother is plotting something and it's up to Cora to find out what. As she is dealing with the most recent catastrophe she's also having to navigate a new relationship with Hudson. Compromise will need to be a well used word in her vocabulary when trying to deal with the alpha-est of the alpha males.

I loved how Hudson really made the effort to show Cora he's all in. Cora struggles to not be so incredibly independent and realize there is another person for her to lean on. That ending though...WHAT? I am filled with questions and overly eager to have them answered ASAP!

As with all of Adaline's books this is by far a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me! We get a bit more spice between Cora and Hudson but definitely still in keeping with the plot 🌶🌶

“It’s coming, Cora. Your future, your fate, your freedom filled with death, darkness, and decay.”

5⭐️! Another thrilling sequel to the Cora Roberts series!

Adaline Winters never fails to weave an intricate tale full of action, intrigue, banter, and spice with a twisted ending! This third installment in the Cora Roberts series, Serpents of the Dawn, takes you on a wild ride starting a few weeks after where the second book ended. Cora now has to navigate pack dynamics being the chosen mate to the Principal of Shifters, Hudson, as well as solve complicated murders pointing to her grandmother as the suspect.

The personality throughout Serpents of the Dawn really shines. Indigo is a big part of this book and I admire her fierce and sassy attitude. She and Cora are quickly adjusting to their growing powers and becoming more united. Their inner monologue had me rolling at times. I also love all of the side characters (ok, well almost all - looking at you 👀 Granny Eloise and Michael). The relationship between Cora and Hudson strengthens as they push each other's boundaries and overcome obstacles as a couple. Not to mention, the heat between them intensifies as Cora accepts that Hudson isn’t going anywhere. 🔥

"He had accepted my darkness and even with death as my constant companion, it didn’t scare him. But it should."

I can't believe that ending! It's not a killer hangover-type ending but it'll leave you wanting more! Hello "Cora Roberts - mistress of missing the big huge fat clues." I'll be eagerly awaiting the next installment!

✔️ Strong, sassy FMC
✔️ Alpha MMC
✔️ Magic
✔️ Shifters
✔️ Angels
✔️ Mystery & suspense
✔️ Spice 🌶🌶🌶

Firstly I have to say I love Cora, I love her more as the series goes on.
If I could rate higher than a 5 star I would. The Cora Roberts series is now one of my favourite series.

Serpent of the Dawn is book 3, and with book 3 bring more omg moments! I never expected any of it and I loved the rollercoaster ride.
Throughout this novel I was like omg and at one point I was nearly crying(I don't cry at books or movies)
Hudson I love! Yes he's overbearing at times but come on who doesn't want him?
Indigo love her and I'm so happy she was out in force in this novel.
I love Adaline's writing, it feels natural to read and not forced. It keeps me wanting more and I need more of Cora Roberts.
Which leads to me to the ending....omg wtf, haha that ending...yes it's a cliffhanger guys lol

Seriously Adaline when's the next installment?

Thank you Adaline for the E-ARC. My review is my own opinion. I really do love this series

Cora and her alpha, Hudson, are back!
Serpents of the Dawn picks right back up in the crazy life of elemental witch Cora, always expect the unexpected.
The best part of this installment was the moments of contentment. I’m always ready for the HEA and by golly these two are sooooo close yet maybe so far…. You never know what AW’s going to throw at us. As usual Adaline is keeping us on our toes but the love and commitment we see developing between these two is **chefs kiss**. I’m here for it.
Lines are drawn for characters who are pulling strings and enemies are known. At 94% I was ready for Cora to just kill them all but that ending had me tossing my kindle across the room. I was not expecting that. Adaline doesn’t leave us in complete turmoil but WE NEED TO KNOW MORE! On the edge of my seat for the next book!
