In the waters of Lake Champlain there is magic, and a Celtic Ring with a mystic spell proves that love is truly timeless. For years Keealyn McCalley has been under her father's commanding thumb. After a young child dies in her arms, Keealyn leaves nursing school despite his disapproval. She ends up staying at a camp on Lake Champlain, in Vermont. Depressed and overwhelmed she takes her first drink and before she knows it she is stoned. Hungover and not thinking clearly she jumps into the lake. Her misguided act leads her to find an ancient Celtic ring with a spell on it. Putting it on sends her back to the year 1869. Found on the shore by Ryan Wolf, she is immediately attracted to his misty green eyes, hard body, and compassionate nature. She must learn to trust him not to abuse her, save her heart, and teach her the powerful healing power of unconditional love.
A very enjoyable read. It is rather gentle and does remind me very much of Little House on the Prairie. The characters are good and the story is sweet. It was just what I wanted at this time. Keealyn is a woman who's had enough of her life. She has an abusive father and hates the career she's been pushed into. The year is 1969. She drinks for the first time in her life and tries to drown herself at the bottom of a lake, but instead finds a Celtic ring. She slips it on and ends up back in the 1800's. Ryan is a man with two girls, who lost his wife to scarlet fever. He finds Keealyn and helps her. She gets close to his two daughters, one of which is autistic. There are many ups and downs for this couple, one of which is the fear Keealyn has of men. If you're looking for something gripping and fast paced, then this isn't for you. However if you want something gentle and emotional, then you will really enjoy this story.
I really enjoyed this story. It was well thought out and slightly unusual. Most of the continuity from the first book was excellent. My only complaint was a disappearing character. In the first book, Ryan has two daughters from his first marriage, Kelsey and Alyssa. Kelsey was his autistic daughter, who was very much a part of the original story. Unfortunately, she was dropped completely from this second book as if she'd never existed. Alyssa is even referred to as the eldest child. I was sad to see this, as it did spoil the reading of the book slightly. Everything else had been continued so well, I don't know how this character was missed. Having said that, most of the book is a beautiful romance and I can see how the author has grown in her writing from her first book. Well worth reading.
A book written by a member of our RWA group. A very wonderful woman and supportive of the other authors. This book isn't my cup of tea. It is kind of like an Outlander theme with a woman putting on a ring which transports her back in time and her adventures there with a hunky man. The author tells not shows and the plot is tried and true.
