La collection " Bouquins " a regroupé en trois volumes l'essentiel des aventures de Fantômas reprises dans le texte intégral et original de 1911-1913. Pendant que M. Loincaré, président de la République, visite l'asile de Sainte-Anne où est interné Juve, Fantômas se rend au Mexique où il a entreposé son fabuleux trésor. Et là, par méprise, il condamne à la pendaison son fils Wladimir et sa fille Hélène : tragique Série rouge... Fandor, lui, pleure sa mère morte dans un sanatorium où l'on trépasse très vite. Lui-même échappe de justesse aux empoisonneurs et nihilistes tapis dans L'Hôtel du crime. Pour se débarrasser de Fandor qui les poursuit en Russie, les nihilistes le dénoncent à la police secrète comme voleur du célèbre collier de la tsaritsa. Juve arrive à temps pour le sauver de La Cravate de chanvre, avant d'être arrêté à son tour. Mais il échappe au tsar pour assister à La Fin de Fantômas (et à la sienne) dans le naufrage du " Gigantic ". Au moment où ils s'engloutissent, Fantômas lui révèle qu'ils sont... frères jumeaux ! Fin très provisoire : Fantômas sera ressuscité onze ans plus tard par Marcel Allain seul.

The son of a Parisian bourgeois family, Allain studied law before becoming a journalist. He then became the assistant of Souvestre, who was already a well-known figure in literary circles. In 1909, the two men published their first novel, Le Rour. Investigating Magistrate Germain Fuselier, later to become a recurring character in the Fantômas series, appears in the novel.
Then, in February 1911, Allain and Souvestre embarked upon the Fantômas book series at the request of publisher Arthème Fayard, who wanted to create a new monthly pulp magazine. The success was immediate and lasting.
After Souvestre’s death in February 1914, Allain continued the Fantômas saga alone, then launched several other series, such as Tigris, Fatala, Miss Téria and Férocias, but none garnered the same popularity as Fantômas.

I own this book but I can't read French. Nevertheless I like to hold this book and even put it under my pillow when I go to bed at night. If I could read it, 5 stars for sure.
