I consider myself an accomplished artist. I have sold quite a few paintings and been published in books and magazines. I am constantly looking for better techniques, styles, and original paintings I like. I probably have 40 books on art and painting. I purchased Olivers first book, "The Sketch," 20 years ago and immediately purchased this one; The Sketch in Color. Of all the books and magazines I have read I have never found any better basic instructions on how to paint in the whimsical style. His paintings look lovely and fanciful in a way I think few people achieve. In fact, I now am frequently teaching watercolor and find many books and YouTube videos on the subject redundant, unimaginative, and lacking information important to the beginner. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone. It is fun to look at all the paintings and contains a ton of information on how to capture the feeling and essence of a scene in various mediums. I only wish I could do so well.
