So, after reading this, I found out this was based on the TV show that was based on the movie that was based on the book I read. Which explains why there were so many differences. Takkun lost a lot of his likability in the transition, and just came across as a paranoid, hypertensive person. Mio also reacted way different to everything, changing the tone of the story entirely.
Also, there were a lot of things taken out, and even more things added in that didn't seem to have any purpose other than to let the script writer for the manga do their own thing instead of following the novel. I probably would have liked this if I hadn't read the book first. I definitely recommend the novel over this manga.
This is based of a novel. I loved this story. It made me want to cry. The little boy is so cute. The father tries so hard. It is abount the Mom who passes away, and says she will return in the rainy season. When it rains she returns but doesn't remember anything. The Father and boy tell her about the way they met and some of the things she used to do. It is a very sweet story. I would recommend this story to anyone that likes bitter sweet stories.

It was kind of vague for me without much explanation. I suppose the reader's supposed to take it as a given that she'd return, but still it felt rather familiar and not that interesting. The flashbacks were at times confusing as the characters looked about the same.
An endearing and cute manga story about love beyond death. I really enjoyed this one because while it had some cute chibi moments, overall it was very true and heartfelt.
This book was just really sweet and cute, and I’m really glad that I picked it up.
Takumi is a widowed father, taking care of his son Yuji, when suddenly his wife shows up with no memory. She doesn’t know who they are, but does her best to get back into her supposed mother and wife role, while Takumi tries not to get too attached, and Yuji tries to deal with his mother not being exactly as he remembered.
I loved their relationship. Takumi loves his wife, but he’s wary, not believing her being back will last. Yuji has always been hopeful, because of this story she used to tell him, but she’s so wary and hesitant now and he misses the way things used to be.
I loved the progression of them all getting into a new routine, and how Takumi and Mio fall in love all over again, as well as how both of them parent Yuji. Then there’re the outside influences, people that Takumi works with and Mio’s mother, who they don’t want to find out about Mio’s being back.
The ending was sad, and I liked finding out how it all supposedly worked, and what Mio knew before she died, and how all of it worked. I'm even thinking about reading the novel to get a better idea of how it all worked. My overall favorite parts, though, were their relationship with each other, how sweet and loving they all were.
As I said, this story was just sweet and cute and heartwarming and light, and pretty to look at. I really liked it.
This is based on the novel with the same title, and its pretty faithful to the source material. It is a romance, one volume manga, and also deals with the concept of death and the theme of regrets.
While it does have a bit of a fantastical take on the topic of death, its done tastefully and maintains the core drama / romance feel. It has a heartfelt story and gives a positive feel to the reader even though it has multiple sad moments.
It is very predictable however, and the dialogue itself is very basic and can be a bit mundane. The art is great, but also a bit generic and goes for the classic Shoujo manga visual tropes.
A good break between longer reads, but nothing that is very memorable.
Apparently this used to be a really popular manga in Japan and went onto be made into a movie, a TV program and a novel. Honestly, I'd never heard of it until I picked it up in the Manga Museum in Kyoto, but I'm so glad I did! Though the cover looks a bit childish, the drawing inside is very good and the translations were also spot on. Also, since it's only the one book, and not a series, you can read it in one go, which is exactly what I did, sitting on the couch in the Museum. There isn't much to the story to be honest, it's very simple and sweet and I like the flashbacks to when they'd met. Though the ending is a little sad, it is essentially a happy story and one which I really enjoyed. My only problem was that no one seemed particularly surprised that she'd come back from the dead! :-) Despite that though, this was a really lovely story and there were some beautiful lines at the end when she was talking to her son.
This started off as a solid 2/5 stars up until the very end where I decided it deserved an extra star for pulling at my heartstrings.
It started as a 2/5 because when Yuji's mom suddenly came back from the dead, Takumi didn't really react to this strange phenomenon. I mean, your wife is back! Shouldn't you freak out? Be confused? Scared? Elated? Happy? In a celebratory mood? His lack of emotions around his newfound wife didn't make him a very likable character...
Since this manga is based on a movie which was based off a novel, I think I would like to either read the novel or watch the movie instead. I feel like something was missing from the manga and hopefully the movie and/or novel would have a better delivery of the story line.
The movie was apparently a huge hit so I think I'll definitely watch it when I have the time!
Saya membaca buku ini versi bahasa Indonesia yang diterbitkan Penerbit Haru.
Menjelang akhir tahun, saya hanya menambah satu buku bacaan.
Read about two pages and just could not get into it. I'm not going to rate it, as I'm not sure if it was good or bad. I watched the film several years ago. I was truly moved by it, and it was a sad but sweet story. I've been meaning to read the English translation of the novel it was based on, but saw this manga version and thought I'd give it a little peek. It seemed too light-hearted for me, so I decided to pass on it.
The story of a man who lost his happiness to The Death. But then he finally found himself thanks to a miracle that seemed only in a fairy tale: It was to meet and fall in love again with Mio - his wife who had passed away for a year - in the rain in June. Treasure your loved ones while you still can because there is no miracle June rain in this reality
That little twist at the end… Very bittersweet story. I just wish it were a little longer because I didn’t really feel attached to the characters at all. I heard this is based on a novel so maybe that would be more fulfilling?
I decided I really like one-volume manga. It's such a pain tracking down every volume of a whole series. I enjoy a good schmaltzy story every now and again.
