A Classification of Igneous Rocks and Glossary of Terms: Recommendations of the International Union of Geological Sciences Subcommission on the Syst

Rate this book
This book, which contains the recommendations of the IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences) on the classification of igneous rocks, is essentially in two parts. The first part, "Classification and Nomenclature of Igneous Rocks", which contains a summary of all the previously published recommendations together with a few new ones recommended by the Subcommission of the Systematics of Igneous Rocks, gives for the first time all the recommendations presented as a single logical classification scheme. The second part of the book consists of a glossary which contains a brief description of 1586 igenous rock names and some terms of which 297 have been approved and defined by the subcommission. These terms are listed as an appendix. Accompanying each entry is a reference to where each term was originally used, its derivation or type locality, and details of where further information can be found in certain standard petrological texts.
