I think I wanted to love this play more than I do. Honestly, I only really remember one song from the show: "A Song That Goes Like This". The story kind of got away from itself, much like the movie did. I do love how this was an ADAPTATION, not a straight written play version because that wouldn't have worked. They took liberties with a lot of material but kept a lot of it too, and it worked really well for fans of the movie. I can't imagine it would be very entertaining if you didn't love the original material though.

“Spamalot” came to town last weekend. Two hours of laughs, music and silliness.

Sitting in the middle of the middle section pays off big for a show such as this one.

Eventually, in the second act, the story brings us to the song “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.” The actors sing it cheerfully, but when the whistling part came, everyone in the audience whistled. Whistling all around.

Then, at the end, after milking applause for each of the actors, the cast lines up and leads the house in a community singalong of “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” with confetti fired from the cannons. Again, the rewards of sitting in the middle of the middle. Singing, whistling and confetti all around. Well worth it.

Currently a player in s production pf this show so I've read the script a few times. It's fantastically hilarious and even more fun to perform. Can't wait to get an audience! Highly recommended for all fans of musical comedy!

Eric Idle: the worst Python. Remember how he also made an oratorio of Life of Brian? Yeah, what an original idea that was. I cannot stand this final phase of Idle's pathetic career as he dilutes the Python's legacy into lowest common denominator crap.

Silly fun in the truest Monty Python way. Not the most for substance but one shouldn't expect that from Monty Python. The songs are fun. My only real complaints are Brother Maynard's speech near the end about the Holy Grail is quite long and not funny and I would have liked if they found a way to add the scene from the movie with the witch. It's a very male heavy show so you need good males to put on this show, sadly there's only one role for women. The Song That Goes Like This and Lancelot are real highlights for music. This show is heavy for set pieces, props, cues, and costumes so should only be attempted by groups prepared to do a lot of work. Great show for fans of Monty Python.

I read this because I was in a local theatre production of it.

I loved the original movie the show is based on and was introduced to the musical via a bootleg DVD someone had shown me years ago. I remember thoroughly enjoying it the entire time.

Taking a look at it from today's lens, the musical is a bit dated. It originally premiered on Broadway in 2005 and some of it still feels stuck there.

While I still enjoy this show, and loved being involved in a production of it, I think there is room for improvement if adapting it for today or the future.

Read for consideration in the 2023-24 season of Lubbock Community Theatre. Really funny, taking some of the best scenes from the movies and adding a bunch of music that is great. The Lancelot song is a little problematic, but otherwise I think it’s pretty damn great.
