Michelle Geel is a contemporary, steamy romance author, aka an endearing oddball who adores that her characters are strong-willed and unpredictable, and often drags her to places she hadn't envisioned.
"Love isn't just perfumed petals and sparkly rainbows." It's a motto her characters have adopted because as much as they may laugh or as fiercely angry or heartbroken they may be, just as hard do they make up and love.
She lives in South Africa with her two children and too many pets. She loves to laugh, enjoys playing netball when her knees allow and she has, to date, been unsuccessful in losing the recipe for a chocolate ganache cake that she's tired as hell of making.
I'd kept meaning to read this and RL got in the way, but I'm so glad I finally found the time! For a debut novel, this is fantastic. Ms. Geel gives us an original story with relatable and likable characters and a story that kept me turning the pages!
**ARC provided by the author. I voluntarily read and reviewed.**
This was my first book by Michelle Geel and I’m so glad that that I found it. It was such a cute romance that left me with a smile long after I read ‘The End.’ Finding A Keeper checked so many of my boxes
Strong main characters. Check. Awesome witty banter. Check. Equally great supporting characters. Check. Hilarious meet cute. Check Steam...so much steam. Check
Top all that off with fantastic writing that tied everything in so well and I was one happy reader. The story constantly was pulling me in and I found myself devouring this story from cover to cover. My only complaint is that sometimes the story felt too far fetched or slightly over done. Even for a romance novel, but the writing pulled me right back in so it wasn’t anything major. This is wonderful debut from Michelle Geel. 4 stars.
What a fantastic way to make a debut! This is Michelle Geel's first book. It was brilliantly refreshing and addictive. Michelle’s writing style was impeccable and is right up there with some of the best selling authors that I’ve read, IMO.
The story was seductive, witty and emotional. We got to meet Gabe, the honest and arrogant, alpha male playboy and confident and fierce Brenna; who had been in so many bad relationships that had left her heartbroken; she was looking for love and commitment.
Gabe was relentless in his pursuit of Brenna, but she knew what she wanted and was determined to do things her way. They were a perfect match for each other. Their chemistry was sizzling, but soon they learned that things doesn’t always go as planned and it takes hard work to maintain a relationship. Buckle up for an emotional roller coaster ride.
I was amazed at the ease with which the author was able to make me switched from being sombre and emotional one minute, to breaking out into a fit of laughter the next. I loved how the story grabbed my attention from the start and kept me engaged until the very end. I was invested in their story and was rooting for them to figure out, how to make their relationship work.
Finding A Keeper was an amazing read; one that I would recommend to everyone. I will definitely be reading more from this author. Great first book Michelle Geel! Thank you!
This is this author's debut and it is absolutely perfect. The story gets you from the start. Keeps you wanting Gabe to be yours. This story was brilliantly written and was so easy flowing, smooth, and absolutely steaming and smoking hot. The chemistry between the characters is combustible and will ignite all kind of feelings. I found myself trying to keep turning the page to read more and more. Sizzling hot HEA that will leave you wanting to read this over and over again. I absolutely look forward to more from this authour. Michelle Geel writing is flawless and funny and left me addicted. I will be looking for more from this author in the future.
Lets see #MeThinking… I just read “Finding a Keeper” by Michelle Geel – so what are my thoughts about it.
At first lets get something out of the way. Even though I read mostly eBooks I am still old-fashioned when it comes to the way I choose to read books. I am a “cover-girl” … #MeLaughing – NOOOO not me on the cover but me LOVING Covers …
So when I am picking up a book to take a closer look it is usually because the cover and the title speak to me – and only after that comes the blurb … Because lets face it – in a bookstore … it is first the cover you see then the rest … And I know I am not the only so I think I kind of need to address it…
Well not sure how to say so I am just going to throw it out there … It’s a good thing I heard the burb before I saw the cover.
Please do not hate me but this picture of that guy on the cover … There were shivers down my back and not in a good way…. I cannot pinpoint it out but it/he does not fit the story.
On to much nicer subjects – like the plot … it seems this is a debut novel and I have to say if that really is a debut – it’s a good one. Ms. Geel has an interesting and fresh approach on how to tell a story.
Writing styles are often compared but so far, I am not sure how to compare her style as the plot development is a little different from the mainstream.
From the first page on you could tell that both leads were strong willed characters and the tone that the novel set was at first that of a romantic comedy of errors that slowly moved through different types of plots into an alpha romance but also not completely.
I think this book will meet the demands of a wide range of readers as you will find – romance, sex, comedy, heartache, friendship, redemption, drama and lots of other things. So there should be a little for every taste.
The interactions between the characters felt real (as far they could – given the fact that the setting was a little fictional- but hey it’s a book so …
About those stars ...Why not 5 stars – well I often get this question – “if you thought this book was so good – why didn’t it get 5 stars?” – And its actually a simple answer – If I did not laugh out loud – If I did not cry or get really REALLY angry at a character …. There will not be a 5th star. In my ratings this 5th one is reserved for only those cases because – while I can not always explain my reaction I also cannot control my emotions when reading a story. To be honest I am sure I would not want to even if I could.
Final note … If this book is any indication of what is to come – than we can expect some interesting stories from this author.
I was able to read an Advanced Readers Copy of this book from the author, and loves - am I sure glad I did! About three chapters in, and I was already hooked.
*Some slight spoilers - nothing major* The basic story is about a woman Brenna, who, according to her friends, just isn't fun anymore. She needs those pipes cleaned - and badly! So when she meets the enigmatic Gabriel, and she assumes he's a *gift* from her friends for her otherwise horrid birthday, she gladly accepts a night of pleasure with him. Only, Gabriel isn't allowing Brenna to get away so easily. Even when she tells him she's only looking for Mr. Right, and he's nothing more than Mr. Right Now.
I can admit there were some tropes/cliches in the book - the ultra rich guy, the woman looking for love in all the wrong places, the girlfriends both protecting her and trying to push her out of her shell, the hero who needs to mature but ultimately realizes he's ready for change - but quite honestly, I love all of these, and Michelle wrote them so amazingly well.
Her style of writing is a wonderful combination of fast paced, yet expositional, which is really difficult to do well. Just when you think the book is about to end, another set of circumstances arise, and you get sucked right back in. (And yes, sucked in. I'll admit I started this in the bath. 3 hours - and cold water later - I had to get to bed, and then as soon as I got home from work, finished it the next afternoon. I couldn't stop thinking about it.)
There are multiple climaxes within the story - both the physical *wink, wink*, and plot types, which again, is refreshing. This is not a one-and-done. I can easily go back and re-read this just to be sure I didn't miss out on any details.
In all, I absolutely loved this book. It was super steamy in all the right places, making me both blush and swoon. Gabriel is a DEFINITE book boyfriend, one I'll enjoy reading about again and again. Brenna is intelligent, witty, confident yet naive at times, and is just... real.
5 very enthusiastic stars. Read it once and fall in lust. Read it twice and fall in love. Read it three times - now you're just playing with yourself!
This book brings all the feels from the “get go”. You could say it begins with a, “Comedy of Errors” for Brenna a sort of mistaken identity. However, the book is so much more than a just a romcom. The story deals with a lot of complex feelings and emotions on both Brenna and Gabe’s side. We get to see how people develop into who they become and why. Basically what shapes them in to what we see. Don’t always believe what you see cause there’s always more to the story. It’s a true story of anything worth having is worth fighting for, cause some thing don’t come easy! Also, why do we choose who we do, even when other people question our choices? I don’t do spoilers so you’ll have to read the book. What fun would it be if I divulged the contents to you? Don’t worry you’ll more than get your share of sex and romance. You’ll also get to see individuals with flaws and issues that have to come to terms with themselves and each other. They have to decide if they are enough. Yes, this is fiction (heck, that’s why we read it) but it deals with real issues I think we all face and not taking things at face value. It’s also a story of transformation, heartache and redemption at times. There’s an element the author brings into the story that is extremely relevant in todays society regarding woman, men and workplace behavior. I applaud her for bringing it to our attention. It’s also not easy navigating thru these murky waters. I could keep going but I’d be repeating myself. What I will say is that this book has a lot to offer; sex, romance, angst, drama, comedy, happiness and at times sweetness. This is my first book by this author. I really enjoyed it.
I didn't dislike this book, but I didn't fall in love with it either.
Things I liked: the characters themselves, billionaire romance, decent length of book with enough humorous moments to keep me reading.
The things I didn't like are more... issues that I have with books overall, not so much specific to this author and this book. For instance, I am totally over "plain Janes" who are totally gorgeous, but everyone can see it but them. But they somehow still get the gorgeous billionaire. ._. No one has a problem with a girl with low self-esteem, but at least give them a reason for it besides self-pity. Not too keen on girls calling themselves whores/sluts either. Sleeping with a guy on the first date doesn't make you a slut. End rant.
Also, I'm a little over hot and cold, hot and cold, hot and cold. I lost track of the number of times the characters broke up and got back together in insanely short time spans. I seriously LOVE a good fight and make up scene, but when it happens so many times in one book I start to actually root for them to just stay broken up.
Then there was the fact that Gabriel wasn't just an alpha, he was an alpha-hole, aka. an asshole. It's one thing to be big and powerful and full of confidence, but it's another to be slamming girls against cars, screaming at them, banning them from wearing hot dresses, and grabbing at them after they've said no.
All those things considered, I know that there are so people who don't ONE BIT mind the issues I've listed above, in which case you'll probably like this book. The writing was there. I'd definitely read something else by Michelle Geel. I just think that this book wasn't for me.
Too long, didn't read; if you like Fifty Shades of Grey, assholes who can f*ck really well, and more drama than all other books combined (and honestly, sometimes I'm in the mood for that), then you'll enjoy this book.
I was fortunate to receive a copy of Finding A Keeper from the author and am I glad I did!
This is Michelle Geel's debut and if it's any indication of what she is capable of writing, I can't wait to read whatever she has in store for the future!
I liked Brenna from the get go. I found her relatable even though her friends were starting to feel she wasn't fun anymore and joked about gifting her an escort for her birthday. She, however, is looking for "The One", a Keeper. Through a comedy of errors she meets Gabe, whom I also liked, and assumes that her friends have 'set her up' and after a night of passion has me literally laughing out loud when saying her goodbye! He's not going to let her off easily and what ensues can only be described as a very enjoyable yet angsty, at times, story!
They begin their arrangement and soon it transforms and progresses intricately to much more. I was hooked into the flow of the writing and with issues that arise throughout the story.
" Why, all of a sudden, do I have this feeling that the ability to greatly hurt me lies within this man? A heartbreak of such profound measure; that it would exceed anything that I could possibly fathom? "
... "although anger's flame burns brightest, it flares only briefly and dies. Heartache's flame is a slow burn, which feeds itself and gradually builds...and lasts a fucking lifetime."
I look forward to reading more from this author!
I finished this book yesterday and after all the "feels" it left me with, took me til today to write out my thoughts on my experience. Thank you for my copy Michelle!
Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction book blog. I believe that this is Michelle Geel's debut novel, and if that is the case, she has done a remarkable job. This book started out as a bit of mistaken identity. Brenna thought Gabe was "hired" by her three best friends to help clean out her pipes. After she confesses that this was her assumption, he doesn't correct her on this. I think it was refreshing for him to find a woman who didn't know who he was. and just liked him for who he was as a regular person, not someone that was semi famous. I didn't like how Brenna talked herself down at the start of the book, always comparing herself to her three friends, but as I thought more about that, I realise that that is something all women seem to do from time to time, so it ended up making the character more realistic to me. Gabe is a very intense man. He comes across as super confident, and very sure of himself. But Brenna seems to bring out a vulnerability in him that he isn't used to, so I think at times he tends to lash out over the smallest of details. If only he could realise the depth of his feelings for her, he would have saved them both from needless heartache. This is a great story, with many added characters that all enhance the story in one way or another. Michelle should be very proud of what she has achieved with this novel, and I look forward to reading more from her in the future
Finding a Keeper By Michelle Geel 5 stars Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction Book Blog
Wow – what a debut novel for this author! I absolutely loved every single minute of this read! It had everything I love in a bit from this gene and more! It was brilliantly written and the characters were great! I really did just love everything about this book! I think I might possibly be completely in love with Gabe! *swoon* He is everything I love in a cocky, arrogant alpha male! The chemistry between him and Brenna was scorching hot! I loved the banter between the two characters too! Brenna was a great feisty female lead and I found that I did really like her. Both of the characters are supported by an excellent cast of secondary characters too. I will be honest and say there were a few predictable moments in the story but I still loved it anyway and it’s one of those books that I would love to read again! Finding a Keeper is a well written story with a fantastic storyline, I am pretty sure that anyone who loves this type of story will not be disappointed in it. My congratulations go out to Michelle Geel on a fantastic debut novel and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
For being a debut book from Michelle Geel, she hit it out of the park!! It will grab you from the first chapter until the end. I hope she will write more of the four Musketeers.
Breena has always felt she was not in the same league as her besties but loved them to pieces. She had her career, love of friends and was not looking to expand her horizons at this time. That is until a mistaken birthday gift gives her the night of her life and she can't seem to forget it.
Gabe has been the epitome of the rich playboy for the last 11 years. Relationship was no where in his vocabulary. Then he comes to the rescue of a beauty who is being harassed while trying to enjoy her drink. They manage to get under each others skin and the chase that follows is very entertaining. You might need tissues for this one, either crying with or laughing to tears.
I strongly recommend this to any and all romance readers.
Wow, for a first time author, Michelle nailed it. If this book is any indication of what this new author is capable of doing, I look forward to reading all of her books. I am a definite new fan. I was enamoured from the first chapter. This book drew me in, I was completely lost to my family. If you enjoy reading about real life this book is just for you. This book has all the real emotions of love, life, heartache, anger, disappointment and happy endings. The love scenes are HOT HOT!! Although the book is about the two main characters Brenna and Gabe the friendships and rivalry of the other characters are not lost. Their presence remain throughout. This book is a must read to all who love a HOT romance novel.
BRILLIANT!!! I'd love to give this book more than 5 stars I enjoyed it so much. And after I was so impressed with it, to discover that it was this author's first book, well, it blew me away! It's 317 pages, so it's a goodly sized book, and I couldn't put it down! A group of friends are threatening to hire an escort for Brenna's birthday, to get her back in the saddle, so to speak. She meets her "escort" and has her night of passion. But it was a mistaken identity...he was just a stranger in a bar. Now for me there was even more of a bonus. Brenna was a strong willed character. Gabriel, the "escort", didn't become a wimp. Together they're explosive and very entertaining. I can't wait to see what this talented author comes up with next!
What an amazing accomplishment for first time author Michelle Geel. This book was wonderfully written with all the feels running throughout the pages! The storyline captures you and brings you on a wonderful journey that will show you real life, real emotions and love scenes that are guaranteed to scorch you, then this is the book for you.
The characters are brilliantly written and so personable that you will find it hard to remember that they are just fictional characters. And this goes for the supporting characters as well.
Congratulations on a wonderfully written book Michelle Geel and I highly recommend this book to all of the romantic book lovers out there!
I was drawn in from the start. I felt like part of the crew as I also have 3 good friends who would be there for me.
I laughed so much when Brenna found out that Gabriel wasn’t who she thought he was.
I wanted at time to punch Gabe when he wouldn’t give into his feeling and then when Bree met Josh I’m like no don’t go with him.
The whole book drew me in and when I finished I wanted more but was also happy for how it ended. Overall awesome read and can’t wait to read more by Michelle Geel
With an oh-so-sexy swoon-worthy hero and a strong heroine, this book is a fantastic debut novel. The characters are so well written and believable, you feel what they feel, live their lives, and that’s what we all want when reading a book right? To escape reality, be swept away to another time and place. This novel does just that. Did I mention the book is hot? The sexy scenes are just…whoa!
I genuinely adored this book! Brenna and Gabe's story has true to life issues and they take many twists and turns trying to be together. She is a strong yet insecure woman who can't believe the hot playboy is interested in her. He seems smitten, but can she trust him? Their story is very sexy, has some heartache and keeps you interested. I couldn't put it down.
As a debut from the author, this novel promises that she is an author to keep an eye on. Certainly, I’ll be waiting to read new works from her! Gabe and Brenna’s story is well constructed and beautifully written. The sex scenes are over the top hot and the abundant comedy had me chortling aloud. I kept imagining who would play Gabe in the movie version..I want to tug at his dirty blonde locks too😁.. Smoking hot and entertaining...checked all the right boxes for me!
wow wow wow this book sucked me in right from the get go..the chemistry is off the charts making it a scorching hot read. I do love a possessive self assured alpha and Gabe is all that but Brenna is no shrinking violet and is a perfect match for him..loved it !
A sizzling read with a possesive self assured alpha, Gabe and the not so shrinking violet Brenna..the chemistry is red hot and loved the interaction between the 2 ..a definite must read
MICHELLE, friggin fantastic, loved it. It’s 3.05 am and I just finished....I couldn’t stop I had to know the ending. Love books that keep me hanging along with rollercoasters. Keep up the writing you are a natural and I’m jealous. I may be inspired to pick up my laptop and tap away
A brand new author with so much talent. The story of Gabe an Brenna is so full of ups and down it talked you on a emotional rollercoaster. If this is for the first attempt I cannot wait for more. Well done Michelle
I loved this book. I loved the constant ups and downs...for that is real life. I loved the deep, nothing-can-break love. For that is true love. I loved that the author kept me wanting more right up to the very end, leaving me depleted and blissfully satisfied!
Congratulations on an awesome book you had me drawn in and hanging with bated breath to find out what was going to happen next. I loved Brenna and Gabe’s journey it was an extreme emotional roller coaster ride.
I loved this book. For a first book Michele Geel did an amazing job. As a dark romance reader I sometimes need a lighter read and Finding a Keeper did not disappoint.
Gabe is a prick but you can learn to love him 😉
I’m expecting to see many more enjoyable books coming from Michelle in the future.
Loved the Story, and the characters. I absolutely loved them.
I do think maybe the story was a little stretched out. I do not normally look at the no of pages left when I read, though in this case, a couple of times it felt like the climax could have been near only for me look at the no of pages and realize that I am no where near that.
The story is about love and it is worth taking a chance with the person you love.
I expected the cover page to be like off the world since I did not look at the cover page before or even during reading the book. Only afterwards, It could have been so much better. Maybe it is just me.

The čharacters interaction from the first meeting is raw, passionate, and sexy. The story is a romance between Gabe and Brenna, a billionaire and a PA. The author writes the support characters for Brenna leaving the reader to wonder about who Gabe really is. The author pulls us into the story through the sharp and intense dialogue between them. Leading us to imagine or recall being in similar ones.
Ms Geel has based her book on a plot that has been written in thousands other books. However, what is rare about hers is how she chooses to write the scenes between Gabe and Brenna allowing the reader to feel and live each emotion.
