First and foremost this book is based off of another series. I CANNOT for the life of me remember the Title of that Book!! Can someone help me lol!!! Its killing me. I can't find it anywhere 😫 Anyway, there's a backstory that I truly think you need to read FIRST before you read this. This book comes second.

With that said,
To be honest, the ratings made me happy lol. 4.3 out of 5. I don't think I've ever seen a 5 on goodreads though. I'm giving it 5 because it was pretty amazing.

I looved this book. It wasn't cliche. It wasn't overdramatic. It had decent suspense. It most definitely had the mystery. The characters were relatable and likeable. I did catch ONE error but that was it.
No misspellings. There wasn't any cursing and if there was, I didn't catch it. So it was minimal if anything. I think I read a book by this Author once and that was book was amazing. This book was pretty amazing too. I look forward to the next book

Cassie Quinn’s story could not be more fitting for my first read of 2021. It’s a tactfully woven story of a woman putting in the work to realize that reconciling the trauma of her past is not solved with one decision but a series of decisions both conscious and unconscious. That landing on your feet doesn’t mean that you’ll always be able to stay that way. And that the past is an incredible motivator for the future.

As a huge fan and consumer of procedural television dramas, I’ve never quite felt drawn to reading them on the page. But Path of Bones does a brilliant job of checking off all my favorite parts of watching: interrogation room scenes, consultants who go rogue, and the insider mental baseball that breaks apart what makes the characters tick.

For Cassie Quinn that insider baseball happens to include processing her involvement with a serial killer and a fading ability to consult with victims of murder who tend to seek her out. Supernatural components are not a turn off for me, however I do tend to find them more burdensome in some prior reads. That is not the case in Path of Bones.

What I love about Cassie most is that her gift is something she is not squarely set against or in favor. This passage really struck a cord with me:

“She was frustrated with herself. She was mad about getting involved again, mad about caring. She couldn’t turn that part of herself off and she didn’t want to, but empathy was sometimes exhausting.”

The reader gets to sit in the passenger’s seat (just kick over those empty coffee cups) and take this journey with her. And there is still work to do. Just as her story doesn’t start here, it also doesn’t end here and I’m more than ready (and excited) to see where it goes. (Especially with JASON!)

More stray observations:

I would follow Detective Harris to the end of the earth even if she got annoyed by my presence
Where do I get a David?
I hope Cassie gets back into art history, modern art is fine and all but I want some spooky ghost picture drama!

Nothing special

This book was boring. I found myself skipping paragraphs and some pages just to get through it. I felt no connection to the characters. I'm not sure if I missed the Novak background story in another book or series, but I feel like this book didn't elaborate enough on the psychic connection of Cassie and Novak although it was mentioned quite a bit. I also thought the ending was lacking suspense. It definitely did not capture my interest enough to read more of this series.

I really wound up loving this book. I thought it was a prefect balance between cozy mystery, thriller and spooky ghost story. I also really loved the main character at the heart of this read. I really loved how the ghost world was built and also how the mystery was so twisty and turns, that i did not predict. I also really loved the end of the mystery. I also loved the hints of romance and the elements that will cont. into more books in the series. I also loved the small town elements and also the museum backdrop. I also really loved the elements of anxiety and depression that were at the heart. It was such a fun read and I am dying for book 2.

If you're looking for an intriguing paranormal mystery featuring a layered female lead, look no further: 'Path of Bones' is the perfect read for you.

Now I must admit that I'm a bit biased: K.M. Rought is one of my best friends, and so there was very little chance that I'd *dislike* this book. That being said, I really enjoyed it both because she wrote it and because it's a great story.

As someone who has never read any other book in L.T. Ryan's catalog (including the series that Cassie Quinn's story is spun off of), I found this book to be a great entrypoint. While I'm curious to go back and read what happened to the main character before this point, this novel does a great job at catching the reader up on all of the important details. I never feel like I've missed anything major, including in terms of the main character as a whole. While the ties are evident, this book doesn't rely on outside material; it stands very well on its own.

Fans of paranormal mystery (including J.S. Lenore, another friend of mine, and her Burner series) will find a lot to sink their teeth into here. From apparitions to visions, rituals to the mundane, L.T. Ryan and K.M. Rought have created a very lifelike world where one young woman's abilities feel more natural than supernatural. I'm curious to uncover all of the different unknown aspects of her abilities as the series goes along, as well as watch her strength and confidence grow.

While the paranormal aspect of this book was certainly well-done, I think it's Cassie's "normality" that really shines here. I really appreciate the discussions and dissection of trauma as well as anxiety and overall mental health. They allow us a more nuanced view of Cassie herself and really bring her to life, making her one of the most relatable heroines I've come across in a while. I came across a review on another site that criticized her lack of presence and confidence, but I think that's actually a strength here. She has so much room to grow and really become the person she's meant to and wants to be. She's vulnerable yet smart, soft yet determined. Yes, she makes mistakes (some very critical and life-threatening), but figures out a way to get herself out of trouble. OR, in times when she can't, learns from those mistakes when she has no choice but to be saved.

I'll absolutely be pre-ordering the next book as I need to know what happens next (and how that creepy little ghost boy factors in to everything). I'll also be giving it out to friends and loved ones as holiday gifts this year :)

Like I said, if you're looking for a good paranormal mystery (and one that you'll want to read in a single sitting), I recommend you pick up this first installment of the Cassie Quinn series.

I’m a sucker for a -GOOD- murder mystery, throw in some ghosts and I’m puddy in your hands.

I absolutely looooved this book, and cannot wait to dive into the rest of the series. The author(s) did an amazing job with everything. Trauma? Check. Likeable characters? Check. Twists & turns? Check. Character growth? Check.

Cassie Quinn is everything you want in a clairvoyant main character, and isn’t written in a one dimensional way. Detective Harris is a bad-ass with a soft heart, dedicated to kicking killer booty.

I love Psychic Novels

I thought this one was wonderful. Cassie was a great heroine and I loved how she helped the murdered women. It was kind f sad at times and I really enjoyed the hunt for the serial killer. He was killing women, draining their blood and cutting out their hearts. Pretty gruesome. But Cassie became fearless. It had a different twist on it and at first I was like no way but it ended up great. Can't wait to find out about the little boy. First time reading this author and so far I am hooked.

A super quick read and enjoyable, but nothing special. There isn’t much “mystery,” mostly just spooky ghost stuff and then the answers being given to you without too much payoff. Especially the “twist” of the second plot point. Also, the part where they used a ghost as a GPS was extra absurd. Did I like it? Yes. Would I invest more time in this series? Nah.

Right up my alley.

Throw in great side characters, humor, and a fun serial killer mystery and this series is going to shape up to be a great one.

Cassie Quinn sees and can speak to ghosts she is psychic and tries not to do anything with it. But, soon she is embroiled in another mystery, when the ghost of a murdered young woman comes to her in her bedroom. She comes in to help the Savannah PD try to solve the cases piling up on them when they find 4 young women who've been murdered. This is the first book in the Cassie Quinn series and I really like it. The third in the series is Symphony of Bones which I can't wait to get into. If you like a mystery thriller try this book it might be right up your alley :)

Ehh. It was an entertaining and easy enough read. It held my interest for the most part and I finished it in a day. I read this book as a means of escaping the drivel of another book I was reading and it did the job I wanted to, so that's saying something. I was curious where it would go, how it would end, etc, so it was worth the three stars. Given the nature of the plot involving supernatural elements, scenes were properly creepy when it counted. I had no idea what I was getting into so that was an interesting surprise.

Despite the good bits, though, the story itself was often quite slow. Characters and their developments were significantly lacking as well. I didn't find anyone very memorable, likable, unlikable, or relatable. Folks were sorta bland. I feel like even the moments of someone offering tenderness came across as awkward and uncompelling. People were just too watery without much substance. Interesting characters are very important to me as a reader, and I just didn't really have that in this book, not even from the main character Cassie.

Some of the writing felt way too tame as well, but I'll blame that on the fact that this book series is probably geared for a younger audience (teens or young adult). At least that's the impression I got, anyway. There were some graphic and violent bits, but nothing too overwhelming (unless I'm just desensitized?). It was just very PG-13-ish. The writing style itself was a bit annoying too; I almost feel like this would worked better if it was told in first-person. Third-person doesn't usually bother me, but something felt way off with this one. Can't really put my finger on it, though. Just OVERLY narrated? How do I even explain it? I don't think I can. The name "Cassie" being spoken way too much by both characters and narrator was annoying too. It was stuff like:

Cassie went to the store because Cassie needed some items. When Cassie got there, she realized she left her purse at home. So Cassie had to turn back around. When Cassie got there, she found her purse in the driveway. After Cassie picked it up, she went back to the store. Once there, Cassie realized she had no wallet in her purse. So Cassie had to go back home. Eventually, Cassie gave up altogether.

Her name was used far too often even needlessly, and it just made the read feel a bit clunky and long-winded. At any rate, it wasn't a dreadful read. I don't know if I feel the urge to continue to series, though. Perhaps sometime in the future if I've run out of other books I aim to read.

L. T. Ryan is a best-selling author of several novels. This, in my opinion, isn't one of his best, but it's still worth the read.

Cassie Quinn has never been overjoyed with having the ability to see and to communicate with the dead. A little boy appears in the corner of her bedroom almost every night, but he makes no effort to talk to her. He just stares. Cassie just rolls over and tries to go to sleep. For the most part her abilities seem to be wavering and sometimes they aren't even there anymore. This eases Cassie's burdens, but it also makes her uncomfortable in knowing that the spirits are still there and needing some kind of help but aren't reaching out to her anymore. This all changes when several young girls are murdered in her community and one of them appears before her with a message. Cassie seeks out the meaning of the girl's message and reluctantly involves herself with local law enforcement to help and solve the crimes of these brutal serial killings. Someone is slashing necks and cutting out the hearts of the victims. Cassie Quinn puts herself in danger in her quest to serve justice to the dead girls.

There are similar books on the market such as this one, and I always find enjoyment and interest when the paranormal meets police work. It was a good read and my interest held throughout, but it was never to the degree of "needing" for me to get back into the story. It's a fairly predictable tale with no surprise twists in the plot but I would consider reading more in this series. L.T. Ryan and K. M. Rought team up to produce a decent paranormal police adventure that will please most who have read Ghost Whisperer and Medium. L. T. Ryan is a best-selling author of several novels. This, in my opinion, isn't one of his best, but it's still worth the read.

PSA: This is a spinoff featuring a secondary character from the Mitch Tanner series; the events of those novels factor heavily into this book's main character's development and backstory. If it bothers you to feel like you're missing important information, I'd advise you to check out the Mitch Tanner series before venturing into this one.

That bothered me, plus there's no romance (what? Jason? Ha, you're funny), and there's very little sleuthing and, consequently, suspense. As a mystery it's incredibly lazy--Cassie just lucks onto the first antagonist, then someone literally walks into the police station and says they know who the other antagonist is, and Cassie and Harris find them without much trouble. Thank god, because the police are pretty incompetent in this narrative.

The author certainly tried to make Cassie complex and approachable, and while I found her likeable enough (her reluctance to help wasn't very endearing), I did not find her relatable. She loves art, works in an art museum in Savannah, Georgia, can see ghosts and consults with the police on murder cases, and she survived being the victim of a serial killer twice. Absolutely matches my to-do list last weekend. An interesting character for sure, but not one I see myself in, aside from her stress and anxiety.

I also did not appreciate that there were 4 points of view. And why was it called Path of Bones? There was no path, there were no bones, there certainly wasn't a path of bones.

“Every step she took in the city was on a path of bones…”

Hidden within the beauty of the historic city of Savannah lies the bodies of his victims…women who have been drained of their blood and their hearts removed with precision…with a purpose…

Once a target herself, Cassie Quinn was left with an ability to see the dead. When one of the killers latest victims appears before her silently imploring for help, Cassie is torn between ignoring the ghostly spirit or setting her personal fears aside to find the killer. The clock is ticking, and when another woman is found bloodless with her heart removed, Cassie knows she can no longer ignore her gift…but will her determination to save the next victim become a deadly mistake…

PATH OF BONES is an enjoyable read that in my opinion is a cross between a cozy and paranormal crime thriller. If you were a fan of the TV show THE GHOST WHISPERER, then you’ll appreciate the paranormal elements in this murder mystery. Look forward to reading more from this author and would recommend to fans of this genre!

Reader’s Note: This is a spin-off from another series. If you are looking to read Cassie’s origin story, I believe it’s located in L.T. Ryan’s Mitch Tanner series.

Young, jumpy, vulnerable, spooked, fragile & delicate dream woman of the writer & museum worker who ogles OLD men to describe them as “still attractive & fit” while ignoring descriptions of younger men, has UNFORTUNATELY been roped into police cases before because of her psychic abilities. When women turn up with their chests splayed open, hearts gone & throats slit, her ghostly visits return. As Cassie decides if to embrace the ghost helper life, she’ll once again put herself on the line to help police officers who, for the entire book, manage to find NO clues - before the killer eliminates her & other party crashers.

Cassie and the Four Hearts! 3.75***** Spoiler Alert!

Recovering from her two near death experiences at the hands of Novak, Cassie was drawn back into her 'I see dead people'- Sixth Sense routine as a serial killer rampaged through Savannah GA, slashing the throats, draining the blood, then removing the hearts of four unconnected young women. Working with Det. Harris, she was shown the murderer's M.O. , and vehicle, that Cassie bravely tracked, and followed into a park, interrupting his brutal act on victim #5. Of course the blackmailed, unrepented physician, Langford gave up secrets and letters, but it was Cassie and dead Elizabeth, who led the final capture of old, entitled Dr. Baker and his misguided, tantric rituals of protection to ward off his declining cardiac condition. He ended up with two slugs to his heart, and the four young victims, Elizabeth, Jessica, Sage, and Hannah, all moved on to their next plane.

Interesting plot, with Cassie and Det. Harris, along with David making a formidable team, money, WP, and elitism being the root of evil. Now to find out who killed the little boy. An Attention-Grabbing Read!

What a Well written Mystery with just enough of The Unknown to Keep us up all Night

What a delight to read a good story with a plot, a climax, and a resolution, not like the serial stories that so many authors are using these days. One with all the bells and whistles of a great storyteller; a heroine who is hopefully healed enough to assist the victims in finding peace. But she has been the terrified victim of a killer who enjoyed the foreplay of the torture more than the actual murder itself. Cassie had been his victim twice during his killing spree 10 years ago. Adding to the plot is a female cop who is a strong and self assurd Homicide detective, a young cop who gives away too much to a beautiful, but manipulative news Reporter and a lkiller who is cold and calculating through the end. Also, four ghosts, his victims, want their murrderers stopped. And, of course, Cassie somehow sees ghosts. What fun. But the terror and the horror of the murders is ever present, as is Cassie's fear. Read it through overnight. You'll have to if you want to sleep! If you love a good murder mysteriy, this one is a winner!

This was wildly mid.

I'm shocked and disappointed because people seem to love it but like... why?

From what I've gathered, this is a spin off of another series following Cassie, who was...maybe a victim in the other series? I could be wrong.

Either way I don't think this is strong enough to stand on it's own without having read the previous series. Maybe if I had, this would have been better for me, but it was just kind of...meh.

Cassie can see the dead. Neat! She's going to help the police find a serial killer. Neat!

Only...it's really kind of boring. The hauntings don't really do anything or provide much. The serial killer scenes didn't have any tension in them.

Everything read like more of an outline rather than the actual story. I needed some tension, some suspense, but I didn't feel it at all.

Fans of Ghost Whisperer or Medium will enjoy

I found that the book got off to a slow start and I felt like I came in in the middle of something. There are all these references to things that occurred before (to the MC) and it feels like we are supposed to know about them.

Once the action picked up things got better. This isn’t one of those mysteries you can solve because no clues are given to the villain. It’s more about the process and the MC coming to terms with her gift.

There are some plot points introduced that don’t seem relevant and aren’t followed up on. Maybe setting things up for a future book but it’s kind of aggravating.

It seems like the series has possibilities and I will read the next book to see how things go.

This was an easy read, good story with an interesting twist. Cassie Quinn has a gift that she wants to abandon or at the least, ignore. She works in an art museum and loves her job, but she has a past that nearly everyone knows about. The person she feared most in the world, is gone now, but residual effects from that time with him still linger.

Cassie gets pulled into a murder mystery and finds that her "gift" of seeing dead people is really a calling and a way to help victims and their families find peace. Cassie cannot ignore the woman who keeps appearing to her and it's clear that this spirit will not give up until she gets Cassie's help. This is dangerous territory and killers do not like when the tables are turned on them.

Good Story, Great Narration.
I enjoyed this story, but I didn't love it. Main character Cassie was a little difficult for me to relate to. She seemed so terrified and weak. The trauma that probably made her this way is mentioned briefly, but not expanded, and I'm left wondering if I would have engaged better with Cassie if I truly understood what had happened to her previously.

Since this was the first in a series, I don't know if she is a carryover from another story outside this series or if her story will unfold gradually within these episodes. I'm not totally sure I'll make it through to find out. But I am going to give the next book in the series a shot, because the rest of the characters were engaging and the plot line was interesting.

I enjoyed this book and wanted to give it 4.3 stars. It was different for me when I began to read it, but really hooked me. I often do not enjoy plots involving spirits and/or ghosts, however this was nicely written.

The climax was fantastic creating suspense to the mystery. Not as predictable as I felt it would be. Some cheesey dialogue took away from the story events, but can be breezed through. The final lines hooked me. I kept looking as if more words will show up. I am drawn to the next book in this series.

This is an easy read that I had on my Kindle and am glad I did. Whenever I had a moment I opened it - grocery stores, car lines, amusement parks. The world around me dissolved to fall into the world in the Cassie Quinn.

Path of Bones (Cassie Quinn #1)
by L.T.Ryan

Cassie has been through one of the most horrible events of anyones life. But now she is wondering what has happened to her, and why things are different.

She used to be visited by the spirits of criminal action. But since her own personal events she does not seem to see them anymore except for a young boy who stands silently in the corner of her bedroom, who she tries to ignore.
