In this private and personal narrative, young Janine and her twin's challenge begin in 1984 when their dad falls 100 feet from a hang-gliding accident, prompting the twins at the age of twelve into quick action to serve as caregivers. His recovery, post-traumatic brain injury, is long and difficult and compounded by their mom's hoarding.

Raised in a religious household, the twins are obligated to honor their parents, but whom do they obey when the parents disagree? Around high school graduation, the twins' mother finally reveals her secrets. Then they receive shocking news about themselves. This memoir depicts how and why some families leave organized religion.

Adapting to Adoption. It soon arrived! A must read for anyone loving a good coming of age story but also anyone knowing adoption. Janine really is a great author. Reading this book laughter is followed by how on earth moments. I feel a bit sneaky looking inside the upbringing of those amazing well known women, but the authors openness is what makes us open up our own eyes to look behind the closed doors of the adoption experience.
