Today, successful organizations of all types are moving away from organizations built around “great leaders” and towards systems build upon processes.
Nowhere is this more important than the IT department. But what widely accepted guides are available?
ITSM is really built on top of ITIL, but of course such a library is not optimal in every circumstance. This book show you how ITIL fits into ITSM, and offers basic introductions to other candidates for IT process management, such as Six Sigma, ISO/IEC 20000, PPM, eTOM,and COBIT.
This is the kind of book that can profit both the IT and the general manager, because it lays out a process approach that both must understand if all the gains that are available are to be achieved.
The book also includes a handy Glossary for those unfamiliar with the terminology.
True management success in a complex world depends on mastery of business processes, and this book is a great introduction and overview to approaches that have proven to be of tremendous importance to global enterprises.
The volume also offers two case studies of successful implementation of ITSM.
If you are in any way related to IT management, I urge you to pick up a copy. I think you will find it of great value, as I did.

This is a short rudimentary introduction to ITSM that can be read in less than two hours. The book does not contain a great deal of actual substance but it does provide a very quick, high level coverage of the concepts relevant to ITSM. Although the book does draw many examples from ITIL it is in no way an adequate introduction to it. This book would serve well as an introduction to key concepts for someone considering a deeper dive into ITSM (or ITIL), but it does not provide deep enough coverage to be useful to professionals as a stand alone resource.
