Project Nemesis #1

Utter Domination

Rate this book
Project Nemesis does not exist ... at least as far as the country's civilians are concerned. To Jesse Stone, a lycanthrope captured for their use, the project was very much real and ongoing. He was a slave to their experiments--tortured endlessly, starved, and all but drained of his will to live. Only one bright spot remained in his life--Erin. Until the day she came to him, a willing participant in their schemes. The betrayal was more than he could bear. It hardened him, turned his mind to white hot rage as feverish as the searing pleasure he felt in taking her. They would regret taking him. He would destroy them all. And Erin ... she he would save for last. Rating: Contains graphic, explicit sex, violence and language, profanity, attempted rape (not by hero), and harsh language.

A totally alright, quick read. Nothing too much, nothing too over the top. Though it wasn't really insta-love, you did get the feeling of it. The story also time jump once, where you miss a year. A year I think we should've gotten a bit more intel on. I didn't connect with the characters, nor did I feel the main characters' connection. I didn't understand why they'd love each other when the fact is that they don't really know each other. One understand what I mean when reading the book...

Jesse Stone is a Lycanthrope werewolf shapeshifter who has been captured by scientists and brutally tortured. They want his sperm to create a new race. Jesse does not cooperate. One scientist notices that he shows an interest in Erin whenever she brings his food. They drug Erin and throw her into his cell. Jesse hates that he is attracted to Erin but in the end he cannot resist her and takes her. When he is told that Erin is just using him for the experiement he promises revenge.
This story was in the line with Lora Leigh's Breed series. The characters were complex and the torture Jesse had to endure heartbreaking. The sexual tension and sex scenes were steamy. It's also has a good amount of suspense and of course a HEA.

I can't do it. I'm putting this one down. I was so excited about this book, and was doing alright till Jesse opened his mouth, Seriously I had to fight myself to get through his dialogue. The book wasn't good enough to hold it's appeal through that. I have seen some promising ratings so I'm sure I will give it a try later. Maybe when I come back to it it will do more for me.

In some ways I don't know where to start with this review. I picked it up after reading the first chapter and I thought it sounded pretty good and hot and all that other stuff. And parts of it were good, but overall the story never captured me the way I thought it was going to.

Here be spoilers! Arrgh!

First off, Erin never willingly participates in seducing Jesse. She was drugged. How one could come to the conclusion that she was willing is beyond me. Eventually she goes to him without the drugs, but she also releases him and tries to give him a chance to escape, even though she knows that her chances of escaping are futile. Once again: Drugged does not equal willing. I'm just saying.

Secondly, I didn't even realize that Jesse was a werewolf until about halfway through the book. I guess I skipped over that part of the synopsis. I don't know. I knew he was a shapeshifter and I kept trying to guess what beast he'd turn into. When it finally dawned on me that he was a werewolf it was kinda a letdown. However, I fully take the blame for being unobservantly stupid and becoming too involved in the first chapter to read the synopsis carefully.

Third, Jesse has "white hot rage" toward Erin? I never quite got that. He felt betrayed. He blamed her for a bunch of things that she ultimately had no control over, but once he started using his brain he stopped blaming her. White hot rage? Not so much.& Even his "revenge" on her wasn't hardcore revenge. Hell, everything he was planning to do to her kinda fell apart after a few hours in her company. That doesn't feel all that white hot.

In the end, I liked the book in a vaguely general way but I felt a tinge of disappointment that a lot of the things I expected after reading the first chapter fell flat.

*sigh*

Jesse has been held captive and treated like an animal the only bright spot in his captivity is Erin a girl who brings him food(when they choose to feed him). When Jesse refuses to give them what they want they decide to send in Erin. Erin is drugged and sent in to naturally collect sperm from Jesse time and time again and soon Jesse isn't sure if her hates or loves her. After many times of being sent in to Jesse Erin realises between being drugged her feelings for Jesse start to change so when she see's her chance she helps free Jesse. One year later Erin need to find Jesse even though she's not sure if he's still alive. Erin needs his help and when Jesse finally realizes why she needs his help they will stop at no length to save someone who is innocent in this whole situation. I liked this book it's filled with action this story is fast paced from beginning to end, and you feel for Jesse and Erin with each trial they are faced with. My only problem is that I would have liked to have more of Jesse and Erin exploring their relationship that being said this is a great fast read.

good story even if I read it a long time ago, I remember that I loved it ^^

I remember too that there was a problem with the hero escaping from captivity and in the end too ... but can't remember what !

I loved the way the werewolf took the heroin captive of his small cabin !

it was a good book, and plot but it did fell short on some parts...
first is that i love how Erin and Jesse have this Love-Hate relationship between them, its always my favorite kinda relationship. i also love that Jesse is very, very protective of Erin and that sometimes he is shy to show his affection for Erin.

however those were the few things that i liked in the book, and for the parts that i dont... to point out there were a few grammatical errors and spellings, its very minimal, but still. Also i feel like there should be intel on how Jesse was captured and what he was doing during the time skip. i would also want to know more about Jesse, on how he can afford to buy a boat, and a penthouse. more depth to the character would be lovely.

the last two things is that, It ended too abruptly. i was annoyed to find the words "THE END" after their conversation. i know there are authors who like the open end feel, but this one just felt like it was a rushed ending. the second thing(probably not that important) is that i couldnt really connect the Title to the story, i mean maybe on the cabin scene...but after that the connection went out the window...

Celeste Anwar's Wolfen Domination (Project Nemesis #1) is a dramatic erotica short story which is suitable only for the adult reader (18 yrs+) due to its content. Full of adventure Wolfen Domination follows the consequences of a captured Lycan, Jesse Stone, and the part that scientist, Erin Maddox, played in him being physically used (and non-consensually) – all in the name of science!

Project Nemesis is a secretive, government supported project that involved capturing a Lycan once their existence was discovered and its mission was to find out as much as possible on this new discovered species. However, head scientists Doctor Wagner and Doctor Freda Dallas appear to get carried away with their experiments and the reader soon discovers that Jesse has been starved and tortured. The reader instantly wants Jesse to escape any way he can.

The only part of Jesse's day that was a small compensation was seeing the young scientist, Erin, when she came to leave him some food. But over time, after countless tests and torturous moments, Erin showed up in his cage seemingly willing to take part in the science experiments herself. It wasn't until after the deed itself that it dawned on Jesse that Erin had been willing – willing to use him. The one moment he looked forward to, in seeing her, now completely enraged him. She was one of them. Jesse was furious and longed to escape in order to kill them, to avenge his mistreatment of physical and mental torturous hell! He plans to kill Erin last due to the pain and betrayal she has made him feel.

Celeste Anwar throws the reader straight in the deep end with the experiments having taken place, Jesse having been tortured and Freda and Wagner discussing how they can perform a further experiment with Jesse. The reader is made aware of the callousness of Doctor Wagner and Doctor Freda and the extremes that they will go to without taking any moment to think of the rights of Jesse.

There are moments when I felt that Wolfen Domination was rushed. The reader is not provided with much, if any, background information on Jesse or any of the other Lycans. We are made aware of what Jesse is from the beginning but apart from that there are no real dramatic descriptions of him 'turning' or much about his characteristics. Also, the on/off attraction between Jesse and Erin at times doesn't seem believable as aside from the experiments we know too little about these characters. I do think this story would have benefitted from a more intense build-up and allowing the readers to get close to the main characters. That said, Wolfen Domination is quite adventurous and becomes moreso as the story moves on.

In terms of erotica, the reader is provided with some very intimate scenes between Jesse and Erin. Jesse is obviously attracted to her quite strongly. These scenes are mostly at the beginning of the story and the story then unfolds into a more paranormal action/adventure. However, some of these scenes are non-consensual, hence the recommendation for ADULT readers only, and therefore this may not be for everyone – a more erotic/horror. These scenes are necessary for the main plot, however, and if you can bear reading scenes of this nature the plot thereafter is quite interesting, following the consequences of the experiments and Jesse's reaction to all that he has been through.

To mention what takes place after the experiments on Jessie would spoil the story. However, it is a worthwhile read and I would consider reading more of Celeste Anwar's work. There are moments when the reader is completely involved in the story and connected to the characters, although there are moments that the reader could possibly struggle with following the concepts due to a lack of background knowledge. However, reading the whole story certainly allows for the reader to see where the plot is actually going and the potential it has.

Wow... The book has a great plot and writing stlye but I did not like the angst level between characters. They kept fighting and fighting. There were so much action throughout the book, it was like watching an action movie without the computer effects. But I do admire a writer's ability to write action scenes so it was good. My problem is that, there were so little space left for the development of their feelings. Even their first and final revelation of love was like an afterthought. It was like the writer wrote the book, finished it, and then said "oh god I forgot to tell that they love each other now". And I really hate it when the dialogs are written in accent. It makes reading terrible. Sometimes I don't even understand what they are saying. The "chere" at the end of sentences were more than enough I think.

I am givin three stars, because I know that some people like this kind of heroes, and I did not want to reduce the overall rating because of my personal dislike.

4 Stars!

Excellent read....Loved the characters, the action, the sexy love scenes.

Nice development to the story line and Love/Hate play between Hero and Heroine. The developing trust throughout the novel kept the tension strong throughout. A couple fun secondary characters.

I wish this were a series....but it looks as though the author wrote this as a stand alone as it was written in 2006. The whole experimentation of Were-folk is an interesting premise for a series.

All-in-all it was an enjoyable read!

4/5; 4 stars; A-

Well dang, this was one of the better lycanthrope/shifter stories I've read in a while. Hats of to my naughty enabling friend Rachelle for recommending it to me.
I put the story on the erotica shelf because the sex that was in the story was along those lines but it didn't overshadow the story and make it boring like happens in so many erotica stories. This book had a decent plot and was a good action/adventure story along with the paranormal romance theme.

MF paranormal shifter erotic romance. There is some bdsm and questionable consent. I did really like it. Very hot but a bit on the darker side than some like. However there still manages to be a HEA that keeps me happy :) I'm hoping she eventually gives us a sequel. There is certainly many ways she could continue to build on this world. So if you like shifter erotic romance with a bite. This book may be for you.

A well written book that gives a peek into an interesting world of shifters living in hiding amongst us and government conspiracies to experiment on them. However as neither the characters nor the world is fleshed out beyond the immediate action taking place it left me with a sense of not really understanding Jesse and Erin and their motivations.

I loved this book! I felt for the characters, their pain at being pawns of the evil experiments. Jessie's loneliness and strenght were sometimes so raw I felt my heart melt. Erin was so brave and determine and brave, finaly realizing that she and Jessie were both pawns of a bigger game...I can't wait for the sequel.

Jess and Erin play out a story that will draw you into their lives and relationship. A twisted and entertaining story-line will keep you reading long into the night. A fantastic story that will result in you wanting to know more about supporting characters in this book, which you are able to do through other books in this series. This is a stand-alone book, but can link into other books.

Wasn't a bad book! The first half of the book there are a few non consensual sex scenes with the use of drugs. The book would of been a lot better if I felt I had gotten to know either the hero or the heroine!

I liked the main male character. Its your typical werewolf erotica but I love that so no bashing here.

I do think there could have been more substance to the book but adding the were cats was a nice touch
