Life—How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation? . . . 3.The Bible specifies the perfect dimensions for a stable water vessel (Genesis 6:15). Ship builders today are well aware that the ideal dimension for ship stability is a length six times that of the width. Keep in mind, God told Noah the ideal dimensions for the ark 4,500 years ago.
4.When dealing with disease, clothes and body should be washed under running water (Leviticus 15:13). For centuries people naively washed in standing water. Today we recognize the need to wash away germs with fresh water.
5.Sanitation industry birthed (Deuteronomy 23:12-13). Some 3,500 years ago God commanded His people to have a place outside the camp where they could relieve themselves. They were to each carry a shovel so that they could dig a hole (latrine) and cover their waste. It would have been impossible for Job to have explored the "springs of the sea." Until recently, it was thought that oceans were fed only by rivers and rain. Yet in the 1970s, with the help of deep diving research submarines that were constructed to withstand 6,000 pounds-per-square-inch pressure, oceanographers discovered springs on the ocean floors!
7.There are mountains on the bottom of the ocean floor (Jonah 2:5-6). Only in the last century have we discovered that there are towering mountains and deep trenches in the depths of the sea.
8.Joy and gladness understood (Acts 14:17). Evolution cannot explain emotions. Matter and energy do not feel. Scripture explains that God places gladness in our hearts (Psalm 4:7), and ultimate joy is found only in our Creator’s presence – “in Your presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11).

12.Chicken or egg dilemma solved (Genesis 1:20-22). Which came first, the chicken or the egg? This question has plagued philosophers for centuries. The Bible states that God created birds with the ability to reproduce after their kind. Therefore the chicken was created first with the ability to make eggs! Yet, evolution has no solution for this dilemma.
13.Which came first, proteins or DNA (Revelation 4:11)? For evolutionists, the chicken or egg dilemma goes even deeper. Chickens consist of proteins. The code for each protein is contained in the DNA/RNA system. However, proteins are required in order to manufacture DNA. So which came first: proteins or DNA? The ONLY explanation is that they were created together.
14.The First Law of Thermodynamics established (Genesis 2:1-2). The First Law states that the total quantity of energy and matter in the universe is a constant. One form of energy or matter may be converted into another, but the total quantity always remains the same. Therefore the creation is finished, exactly as God said way back in Genesis.
15.The first three verses of Genesis accurately express all known aspects of the creation (Genesis 1:1-3). Science expresses the universe in terms of: time, space, matter, and energy. 16.The universe had a beginning (Genesis 1:1; Hebrews 1:10-12). Starting with the studies of Albert Einstein in the early 1900s and continuing today, science has confirmed the biblical view that the universe had a beginning. 17.The earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22). At a time when many thought the earth was flat, the Bible told us that the earth is spherical.

Three thousand years ago the Bible described the “paths of the seas.” In the 19th century Matthew Maury – the father of oceanography – after reading Psalm 8, researched and discovered ocean currents that follow specific paths through the seas! Utilizing Maury’s data, marine navigators have since reduced by many days the time required to traverse the seas.
22.Sexual promiscuity is dangerous to your health (1 Corinthians 6:18; Romans 1:27). The Bible warns that “he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body,” and that those who commit homosexual sin would “receive in themselves” the penalty of their error. Much data now confirms that any sexual relationship outside of holy matrimony is unsafe.
23.Reproduction explained (Genesis 1:27-28; 2:24; Mark 10:6-8). While evolution has no mechanism to explain how male and female reproductive organs evolved at the same time, the Bible says that from the beginning God made them male and female in order to propagate the human race and animal kinds.
24.Incalculable number of stars (Jeremiah 33:22). At a time when less than 5,000 stars were visible to the human eye, God stated that the stars of heaven were innumerable. Not until the 17th century did Galileo glimpse the immensity of our universe with his new telescope. Today, astronomers estimate that there are ten thousand billion trillion stars – that’s a 1 followed by 25 zeros! Yet, as the Bible states, scientists admit this number may be woefully inadequate.
25.The number of stars, though vast, are finite (Isaiah 40:26). Although man is unable to calculate the exact number of stars, we now know their number is finite. Of course God knew this all along – “He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name” (Psalm 147:4). What an awesome God!
26.The Bible compares the number of stars with the number of grains of sand on the seashore (Genesis 22:17; Hebrews 11:12). Amazingly, gross estimates of the number of sand grains are comparable to the estimated number of stars in the universe.
27.Rejecting the Creator results in moral depravity (Romans 1:20-32). The Bible warns that when mankind rejects the overwhelming evidence for a Creator, lawlessness will result. Since the theory of evolution has swept the globe, abortion, pornography, genocide, etc., have all risen sharply.
28.The fact that God once flooded the earth (the Noahic Flood) would be denied (2 Peter 3:5-6). There is a mass of fossil evidence to prove this fact, yet it is flatly ignored by most of the scientific world because it was God’s judgment on man’s wickedness.
29.Vast fossil deposits anticipated (Genesis 7). When plants and animals die they decompose rapidly. Yet billions of life forms around the globe have been preserved as fossils. Geologists now know that fossils only form if there is rapid deposition of life buried away from scavengers and bacteria. This agrees exactly with what the Bible says occurred during the global Flood.

This book is filled with scientific errors. Even worse, it takes quotes from many scientists out of context and even quotes people who are not scientists while implying they are. I actually contacted some of the scientists quoted via the internet about this because I found it hard to believe, but it was true. Several in-depth reviews of the book exist on the internet, one of which is extremely detailed and points out the inaccuracies line by line. http://corior.blogspot.com/2006/02/pa...
I spoke with the author of the review. He was willing to send me documentation of his research at the time.
Richard Dawkins, a biologist, also briefly reviewed it in his book, The God Delusion. He gave specific problems with the book, though a full review would have required another book in and of itself.
It is true that the book is easy to read and understand. It has lots of pictures. Sadly, this does not make up for it being woefully inaccurate and misleading.
I spoke with the author of the review. He was willing to send me documentation of his research at the time.

Great Book that Prove Creation Accounts.
Well Written with full of good & excellent knowledge ,cannot be ignored at any time. This book in my views is the best book ever written on Evolution/Creation Topics.
This Book also Presents that life cannot evolve by chance/Random.

COSMOLOGY & ASTRONOMY:
1. The earth free-floats in space, affected only by gravity. While other sources declared the earth sat on the back of an elephant or turtle, or was held up by Atlas, the Bible alone states what we now know to be true.
Job 26:7: He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
2. The earth is an orb or sphere. At a time when many thought the earth was flat, the Bible told us that the earth is spherical.
Isaiah 40:22: It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.
Webster's 1828 Dictionary's definition of CIRCLE. "In popular use, the line that comprehends the figure, the plane or surface comprehended, and the whole body or solid matter of a round substance, are denominated a circle; a ring; an orb; the earth."

These theories paint a seemingly accurate description of what the Bible calls "outer darkness" or "the blackness of darkness forever."

A most amazing collection of misquotes, stupidity, and outright lies. I suppose it was easy to confuse people with this stuff in 1985 when this was written. JWs have never been allowed higher education or to think critically. Before the internet was available it was out of our reach to verify the ridiculous claims in this book.
The ""scientist"" Francis Hitching is quoted 15 times in this book as proof that there is dissent within the scientific community regarding the factualness of evolution. Look up Francis Hitching on Wikipedia or Amazon and find out for yourself if he's a scientist or not. (I'll give you a clue, his other books are on the paranormal)

I find these little books both fascinating and deeply sad.
There is a huge effort here to give the appearance of deep scientific research, but it's only here to back up an already chosen result : 'God did it.'
It's an elaborate pretense that a hypothesis is being tested and serious research was done.
At no time will the book actually apply all this science to question that idea, only to re-enforce it.
The book picks at every detail it can find to debunk evolution, but none of that effort is put into thinking about 'god did it' or any time when they use the bible as a source.
Lots of assumptions, cherry picked quotes, logical fallacies and and a very uneven argument.

They just want to say some version of 'god did it, do a mic drop and wait for me to joyously agree with them.

I'm actually quite surprised this book is on here considering its a book ued by Jehovah's Witnesses in the kingdom hall. It's obvious people who do not understand or respect the religion will have alot of negative thing to say but this book being posted here is almost like posting the bible on here.... I personally LOVE this book. But the fact that this book is on this site and is being judged by people other than Jehovah's Witnesses upsets me.

I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness and read this book many times during that phase. Then I started studying biology, and now I have a Master's degree in Bioinformatics. Looking back, I can simply conclude that this book is very bad. At university, I was confronted with overwhelming evidence for evolution. I turned to books like this for answers. However, it was clear this book was childishly naive and downright dishonest. For example, there is literally a single page in which they 'disprove' that birds are descended from reptiles. In my textbook, there was an entire chapter about it; and every claim had at least 3 research papers as a reference. Listing everything that is wrong with this book would take forever. Therefore, it is better to list the few things that I liked about this book.
Unlike most other American militant creationists, the guys who wrote this book do not claim that the Earth and Universe are only 6000 years old. The book doesn't present fake artefacts, like dinosaur cave wall drawings or traces of leaves on T. rex' teeth, as evidence against evolution. It was this book in which the Watch Tower Society first renounced Flood Geology and accepted that the geologic strata formed throughout Earth's long history (Uniformitarianism).
For the rest, this book is very bad. The writers don't understand how evolution works. They have taken many quotes from scientists out of context. Furthermore, they downright deny fossil evidence. The order in which subjects are discussed also makes no sense. The aim of this book clearly wasn't to disprove evolution but to prove the WTS interpretation of Genesis. Which isn't the same thing. For good reason, the WTS replaced this book in 1997 by the "Creator"-book; which is much better.

For the rest, this book is very bad. The writers don't understand how evolution works. They have taken many quotes from scientists out of context. Furthermore, they downright deny fossil evidence. The order in which subjects are discussed also makes no sense. The aim of this book clearly wasn't to disprove evolution but to prove the WTS interpretation of Genesis. Which isn't the same thing. For good reason, the WTS replaced this book in 1997 by the "Creator"-book; which is much better.

This Creation book is another epic presentation of false information. Evolutionary theory is mis-represented, Creationists are put forward as Scientists, and Scientists are quoted out of context. At times, a scientific article will state a problem, which the article then addresses with a proposed solution. The Creation book will quote the problem as if is it an unsolved confession from a scientist, such as the Gould and Eldredge quote from Discover, neglecting to advise that the article addresses the problem.

0.5/5 - I will admit I skim read the last quarter of the book and skipped the chapter titled 'The Bible - Can We Trust It?' I was really looking forward to an argumentative text but it was just extremely bias.

I liked the illustrations. That was the only good thing about this book. It's not as badly written as some other religious apologetic works, but it is so juvenile, condescending, and misleading that it was still a struggle to read.
The basic gist of the book is that everything is too complicated to have come about by chance and we still don't understand how some things work, therefore the Bible is right and God exists. (And not just any old god, but specifically the Christian god.) Even allowing for the fact that this book was written in 1986 and there have been plenty of discoveries since then to blow this premise out of the water, it's still ridiculously juvenile to assert that if we don't understand something then God did it.
Even though the book says it's about evolution, it has some major problems right from the start. First, it confuses "evolution" (the slow change of things over time) with "abiogenesis" (the origin of life.) This is a mistake that lots of creationists continue to make; evolution makes no claims to explain how life started, only how it evolved over millions of years into the array of lifeforms we see today. Science admits that we don't know exactly how life began on Earth, but that doesn't mean we should automatically assume that the Genesis account in the Bible is correct. It (falsely) accuses scientists of clinging to dogma while offering only a different dogma in return.
For a book that claims it wants to use science to support creationism, science and evolution itself is only mentioned in the first 8 chapters. The remaining 12 are dedicated to appeals to emotion, appeals to ignorance, asking leading questions, and, weirdly enough a feeble attempt to tackle the problem of suffering and free will (we need to learn to accept God's rule and become good little slaves), and to prove that the Bible is a reliable scientific source by citing all the incidental historical details that the Bible gets right to "prove" the the Bible is true (a claim explored in far greater detail in "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell and "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. If you have the stomach for it, I suggest you check them out.) It even talks about how the Earth will be when God returns and the dead are raised and all that fun stuff that's supposed to happen after Armageddon. If you "make the right choice," of course.

But when the book talks about the Genesis account, it says that we don't know exactly how God made the heavens and the earth... but that's okay; God still did it. Here's a quote from the third chapter, page 25:
"As with other things that are misrepresented or misunderstood, the first chapter of the Bible deserves a fair hearing. The need is to investigate and determine whether it harmonizes with known facts, not to mold it to fit some theoretical framework. Also to be remembered, the Genesis account was not written to show the 'how' of creation."
So, an ancient book written by desert goat-herders deserves a "fair hearing" but the mountains of scientific evidence supporting evolution can be dismissed as "mold[ing the facts] to fit some theoretical framework"? (I love how apologists end up accusing science of the very sin they are committing themselves.) And it's also okay for the Bible to not explain how everything was made, but if one "missing link" is unaccounted for then the entire theory of evolution is debunked? Again, even allowing for the time this book was written it's still so simple-minded, blind, and unconvincing that it's insulting.
TL:DR - "Life--How did it get here?" is basically a watered-down, colorfully-illustrated version of the same old, tired apologist arguments trying to use science to prove that the Bible is true, with the same unconvincing result.

I started re-reading this book a few weeks ago. I figured that most, if not all, of the scientific information would be slightly out-of-date. Some of it is, but some of it still puzzles people today. The debate over evolution or creation will probably not go away anytime soon, and this book is a good introduction to the concept of creation. Note: I am not discussing intelligent design or creationism, but rather biblical creation. References to the scriptures are included in each chapter, and there are several pages of endnotes for anyone wishing to examine the scientific research drawn upon for the chapters discussing the fossil record, mutations, ape-men, and so on.

It is a poorly researched book in support of creationism. It was published by the Jehovah's Witnesses printing corporation Watchtower Bible & TS, written anonymously by author Colin Quakenbush, who was a senior writer in their Writing Department. Mr. Quakenbush, having never attended college, did not hold a single degree in any science related field. It is no longer in print and for good reasons.
It doesn't deserve one star, and should be shelved with poorly written fiction, or better yet, recycled.

If any of the people who rated this book as five stars had bothered to cross-reference the 'expert' sources quoted by the authors they would realize that they were being duped. Quoting members of their own religion, taking expert quotations out of context and making misleading statements are rife in this publication. Any reasonably educated person will pick out the glaring holes in the simplistic arguments made in favor of a Grand Creator. This is probably the reason the organization is so frightened of its child members gaining further education. A few months of factual knowledge being fed into their minds would soon undo the brainwashing damage that this and other JW books have inflicted.

This book tackles the subject of how did life start. Why are there so many disagreements, different attitudes and agendas in the field of evolution. What does the Genesis account really say?
I think what I like about the book the most is the chart on page 37. There is an illustration that the chances of the Bible getting the order of creation right- the first time is 1 in 3,628,800.

Excellent book. The fossil record is missing all the 'missing' links. Plus fish just appeared. There were no species leading up to them. Darwin said there should be lots of examples of transition species. We have over 100 million fossils without these transition fossils. This book refutes evolution succinctly.

This book is filled with scientific inaccuracies and logical fallacies. One of the main ones that strikes me is that it defines evolution as something it is not, and then proceeds to argue against that strawman. Intellectual dishonesty at its zenith.
