A funny and comforting book. ‘I’m not doing too bad’ was the first thing I thought when reading this after having a bit of an imposter syndrome crisis. I will definitely be going back to this throughout the next 18 months.
Don’t Panic is a wonderful book: wise, humane, helpful and, on I think every page, actually laugh out loud funny. It’s tempting to say that the humour makes the serious stuff palatable, but on reflection it’s more that Lewis finds the humour in the serious stuff and exaggerates and embellishes it like the stand-up comic he is. That in no way diminishes the valuable advice given. If anything, the impact of this is enhanced because it’s memorable and interesting.
This book was the perfect balance of insightful, educational, and funny. Dare I say this might be the perfect book for the first time Dad.
My only word of caution is to not read this near your partner to often, as she may think your not taking everything as serious as she is. There was just too many times to count were my laughing out loud while reading was met with a glare or a question about “What’s so funny?” 😂
A brilliant informative book about parenting that still includes humour and is easy to relate too. Loved all the extracts from fellow parents, comedians, healthcare professionals and celebs. Definitely recommend to read whether you have children or are expecting!
Bought this book for my partner as we’re expecting a baby in the new year. He is loving it so far and has shared a few giggles and some useful information with me.
Now to find the mums version.., any recommendations appreciated !
My partner and I read this together before our baby came. It was genuinely hilarious whilst also being very informative and heartfelt. I would recommend this to anyone having a baby
A bit more of a humorous take on impending parenthood than some of the other books I tried out. Casual and amusing, sharing thoughts without being too serious about it. I enjoyed it.
Funny and very easy to digest ahead of parenthood. Definitely worth a read for Dads who are particularly worried about the role they play in the next chapter.
When you are expecting a baby, you start to be given free samples of baby items to help you prepare for impending parenthood. After reading this book, I think a sample of the book should be a much needed addition to those packs.
I know that the book title mentions ‘expectant dad’, but actually this book would be a useful read for any family and friends of an expectant parent (although grandparents may need to stop drinking sherry after reading it).
Lots of practical advice in a humorous but educational style with contributions from well known parents/doctors. Happy to recommend this book – would make a great gift to someone getting ready to become a parent for the first time.
