Embracing Guilt- From "I can't forgive myself" to "I forgive myself"

Rate this book
"Guilt & shame are twin demons from the past, which can trouble any of us. However, in guilt, one is also susceptible to shame. The frail boundary between “I did something wrong” & “I am wrong” dissolves and hence, makes guilt a more challenging emotion to handle. Guilt distorts our reality and causes turbulence in our minds, wreaks havoc on our thoughts and emotions. It is a karma trap which can imprison anyone for entire life. It undermines our health, behavior, & relationships. The standard approaches like “let go,” “move on,” “substitution,” & “don't think about it” worsen our condition as we try hard to bypass our suffering. Suppressing or substituting our thoughts, emotions, & feelings creates more pain. Embracing guilt is an invitation to heal against guilt. The book is aimed to understand guilt, dispel myths, explore beliefs, and ground the reader to the path of self-forgiveness and self-love through one's vulnerabilities. Embracing guilt allows us to think any kind of thoughts, stories, and reasonings about the past, without any resistance in the present moment. Embracing reduces the additional suffering which one experiences by living in denial or resisting the suffering as an integral part of life. Further, we move deeper into embracing guilt by availing the present to transform guilt into self-forgiveness and self-love.

Embracing Guilt allows our hearts and minds to be touched by forgiveness & love through our vulnerabilities."

Embracing guilt is a self help book that generalizes on the topic of guilt. This book addresses various interferences and reactions of carrying it like a burden. Most of the time we carry guilt and although it is an impalpable object, it is still an emotion which can have the weight of a thousand unspoken words.

Throughout the book the author convinces the reader to embrace the guilt because once we accept, the journey to healing begins. Each step is essential and no shortcut is going to provide any relief. Through his own experiences he provide ample situations and instances where he learnt to understand the way guilt works and how to cope with the same without any assumptions.

There were many points on the topic very simple and understandable. My favorite section is " A glimpse of embracing guilt ( chapter 6). This is because not only I felt writing style resonate but also the steps included the very helpful. Unlike other Self help books, the other is not a feature of positive thoughts enforcement and forceful implementation of 'do this or do that' the only thing that was given emphasis was learn accept it, that mind set is the first of many steps of embracing guilt.

Honest and relevant, this self help book is a mirror of the times we live in,there are millions of people who are constantly living with feelings of guilt. What works for this book is the relatable way in which it tells the story of people and the non judgemental stance it takes on to view its references. It's crucial to dig deep into your heart and find out the effective way to deal with the unavoidable feeling of guilt. In fact, this book manages to retain a strong emotional core with the readers.

Here author tries to explain why we should accept the guilt because everybody has their flaws and there is nothing wrong to do mistakes. Author channelised everything towards a positive path and you end up feeling like a completely different person at the end of the reading. There are some valuable advices given to follow in our lives as well.In my opinion, it's a nice read that left us wondering.

Embracing Guilt book is authored by Abhinav Prakash and is a self help book. Blurb pretty much sums up the book and gives an idea what to expect from it, so would limit my review to what I liked/felt /pros and what I did not like/could have been better/cons.

Pros:
1. Book is very insightful, written from authors personal experience so lively and real.
2. Book is well organized and we'll presented.
3. Adds perspective in readers mind about viewing /analysing incidents/thoughts, helps them to see differently, analyse in right way and to right extent.
4. Learnings/Suggestions etc are easy to follow and just needs a little conscious efforts.
5. Language is easy.

Cons:
1. Some of the contents is repeated more than once could have been avoided.

Topics that made a impact on me/ appealed to me are Shame Culture, Guilt culture and Karma trap. Personally was able to relate to every word in the chapter "Demon in the head" and it's so real.

Book has definitely changed my life for better and so would for others too. Would definitely recommend to all.
