Hunter #6

A Gateway to Darkness and Doom – Part 1

Rate this book
The hunters finally arrive at Xanvir – exhausted, grieving, and broken.

Freyja and Magden know that she is dead. She must be. In the mines of Aglian, they saw the rocks fall on her. She was crushed. Surely.

And yet, Eric knows that she is a fighter. He has a crazy theory – that, like the monsters in the mine, she escaped through the mysterious portal, and is still alive. But, if his theory is true, it doesn’t bear thinking about where she could be now. Whatever the case, she will need their help, and urgently.

Firstly, however, they must meet with Lothar. It is why they have travelled three weeks from Maagsgard, after all. Besides, Eric speculates whether Lothar’s summons may have something to do with the portals. That maybe Lothar can help them to save Alice sooner.

Little does Eric realise the scale of Lothar’s concerns. For they are all in danger.

Not just Alice. Not just the hunters. But the entire world.

Episode six in the Hunter Series, a collection of short reads that weave an epic fantasy tale! Immerse yourself in a world full of monsters, magic, and mystery; dark, unsettling landscapes; action-packed fight scenes; and characters that are relatable from the first page!

Much like every other reader, I’ve been highly anticipating what happens next for these characters after the cliffhanger from the last book. How will they react to Alice’s death? How will they bear to continue on without her?

At no point in my wait was I imagining there could be a possibility she is still alive.

But that’s exactly what Eric thinks throughout the course of this installment. Alice may still be alive and he will stop at nothing to save her.

After five books detailing these characters’ journey, this book finally tells what exactly these characters have been journeying for. What mission they’ve been asked to accomplish. In the perfect trade, Alexander Lound gives answers to the questions we’ve had since the beginning of this series while also making us form new questions we need the answers to. Is Alice still alive? What happens next for these characters? Just what, exactly, is going on here?

However, this book very much felt like a transition between the fifth book and what comes next for these characters. There’s a lot of explaining, but not much else going on. Of course, the further we get into a series, the more difficult it is for reviewers to talk about what’s going on so there are no spoilers for those just tuning in, but I left this book wondering how I was going to write this review more than anything. My questions about the main plot finally answered, and I felt… nothing.

I will continue to read this series. I still have questions I need the answers to. But this book… was definitely not my favorite.

The truth is, I get so excited when Alexander Lound announces he is releasing another instalment in this series. I instantly jump to read it. I personally think this is one of my favourites so far, it is so unlike the other parts so far.

Book 6, finally focuses on the main quest that began in book 1. We have returned to the plot line of Eric’s original request to leave the hunters guild; it is definitely worth the wait. Throughout all 6 instalments we have grown to love each character and each adventure, in this part we are gifted a highly emotional story.

Beginning with hopelessness and loss, our main characters are seen to be battling different stages of grief; this makes for very compelling reading. We also get to see Eric come face to face with people he doesn’t trust; and the view of these characters is severely shifted.

This is only part one to book 6, and I can not wait for part 2, as the cliffhanger has made me hungry for more.

I received a free e-book copy from the author in exchange for an honest review .

I received an eARC of this novella and this is my honest opinion.

This is a very readable novella, and I finished it within a couple of hours. It deals with the aftermath of the tragedy that occurs at the end of the last book, but the stakes are raised when talk of portals comes in.

The difference between this book and previous installments is that it's a direct continuation of the storyline and it doesn't have its own monster to deal with. I liked that about this.

This story takes place over a very short period of time which doesn't leave a lot of room for character development within the episode, but you can really see the evolution of Eric from book one until now, and it is wonderful.

I always love a good portal, and although that's as far as the magic goes, I appreciated it. And it ended on a cliffhanger, so I look forward to the release of part two.

The group has been broken and they leave one city for another without Alice. But they soon discover that things may not be as they seem. As the group search for answers to the events in the last book, we have hope Alice is still alive?

This book starts off where the last ends, and I was hoping for more answers and more to happen but to only be left on a bigger cliff hanger then the last. We do find out a lot about what is happening and the biggest journey the Eric and his group may face but I wish we had a little more adventure in this one. Of course I will keep reading as I have really loved this series and can’t wait to see what happens next! 🙌🏻

Eric, Freyja and Magden travel to Xanvir in order to find a portal and go through so they can rescue Alice in hopes that she is still alive. Alice finds a friend to help her and through the dark city but not without having to overcome danger. Lots of intense moments
