Fighting For Delphine: A Soldier's True Story of Triumph and Tears

Rate this book
Triumph! The war in Europe had been won. Minnesota soldier, Ken Krueger was elated it was over. Yet after having arrived home safely, he found himself facing another enemy - one that would take a lifetime to defeat. War would continue to be waged, not on land, but in his heart and soul. This edition is actually two books in one. In Part One, Ken tenderly recalls meeting his first love, "Delphine," in war-ravaged France. He also details his harrowing experiences serving as a teenage Signal Corps Messenger In General Patton's Third Army. In Part Two, Return to Fenetrange, Ken, now in his ninth decade of life, is given an unforeseen gift - and opportunity to return to France. This section includes fifty photographs of his trip back to deliver one final message.

Such a sweet man, who served during World War 2 and met the love of his life, only to lose her when he returned home. He did marry someone else, who barely rated a mention in the book. She passed away before the book was written but I wondered what his children thought about the book. When he was an elderly man, he went in search of his first love. It would be spoiler to say how that turned out. I will say it was sad and touching at the same time. I'm sure Ken has passed on now, as he would be 100 years old. I hope he was reunited with Delphine in the afterlife.
