I opened up this book by Anna Dewdney and it seemed like the missing key to my heart. It made me smile and it made me think about the shopping trips i used to take with my mother as a child. I am now eighteen and no longer a litte girl but reading this book made me feel like one. Even for a five minute read i still wanted to examen every little picture and take the time to write a review. This book was stashed away in my items for garage sales but i think i am going to keep it for my children in the future.
I may be mistakeing but i think i read somewhere that Anna Dewdney had died and if thats the case then i guess that as the days go by its another author lost. All the memories that Anna Dewdney gave back to me were timeless and so are her Lallma Lallma books and i cannot wait to hand down the one book that i have to my children who i hope and pray loves them as much as i do.
We love you Anna Dewdney! Hope you are enjoying Heaven and rest in peace...

My face when my kid wants me to read him this book, which happens pretty much every day.

It's the first day of a new year, and I figure that makes it as good a day as any to start keeping track of the many, many books I read with my son Jayden. Though most of the books on his shelf are 50 pages or less, I have read most of them enough times that they may as well be Gone with the Wind or one of the other of the overlong tomes that I have reviewed.

Anyway, the first book up this year is Llama Llama Mad at Mama, one of the sequels in an uneven series about a boy llama who finds plenty of drama in every daily situation and can be counted on to burst into a fit around page 25 of every book he's in. This time, mean Mama Llama insists on dragging little Llama out shopping and makes the rookie mistake of promising him a "treat" when the errands are through. Llama gets impatient for the treat and dumps all of Mama's groceries onto the supermarket floor.

Jayden loves the Llama books, I presume because they tap into real fears and anxieties that kids experience. I think this is one of the weakest in the series--trite rhymes, teaches kids they should be patient with their parents because their parents will buy them ice cream, etc.--but as luck would have it, it is probably Jayden's favorite. This is the first, but certainly not the last time that I expect to read it in 2016...

So many kids can relate to this book. I would create a chart with the children that compares the book and that the children do when they go shopping with their moms. The children can also describe how they feel when they go shopping with their parents.

Little llama llama is back, and this time he's getting impatient with his mother as she shops in the grocery store. The situation progresses until little llama is having a full-blown, pasta-flying, juice-spraying, cart-crashing, Cheezee Puff-tossing fit in the grocery store. Mama llama handles the ugly and potentially embarrassing situation with tremendous grace and patience (oh, that all moms were as calm as Mama llama), reminding little llama of how much he is loved, and leading him to quietly help clean up the mess.

Kids can't resist the cute and colorful illustrations and familiar situations told in easy rhyme, and moms, we've all been there!

Llama Llama is doing his own thing (first playing, then falling asleep in the car), but it keeps getting interrupted by his mom's plans to go to the store. Llama Llama's patience slowly dwindles to nothing, causing him to have a temper tantrum in the middle of the store. His mom quickly calms him down and there is a happy ending.

I know that the story is supposed to be teaching little kids to behave while entertaining them with rhymes and great illustrations, but I suppose the books are also a good reminder to me as a parent to try to keep my cool when responding to an emotional child.

My daughter loves every book in this series. I worry sometimes that reading about little Llama having temper tantrums might be a bad influence on my child. We shall see....

Llama Llama Mad at Mama
By Anna Dewdney

Baby llama wants to play, but since it is Saturday it is time to go shopping. Little llama is annoyed with everything and everyone in the store, shopping is really not where he wants to be. When his momma asks him what kind of bread he would prefer, he has had enough and throws a tantrum that sends contents of the cart onto the floor. His mama explains to little llama that shopping is no fun for her either, but at least they can spend the time together. This makes llama sad that he acted that way and helps his mama clean up the mess. Together they get the shopping done because little llama loves his mama.

I love the Llama Llama series books. They are fun, and the rhyming words are helpful for young readers. Llama always loves his Mama, what happen in this one? For children who are familiar with Llama Llama books, the title will raise their interest immediately, and they can connect their experience with the story.

Personal Response
I, personally, thought the book Llama Llama Mad at Mama was a funny kid book. It gave different circumstances that happens in real life; however, it is with llamas. I read this book to my seven year old neighbor; her name is Bekah and she is in second grade. Bekah thought that this book was hilarious because she was laughing the whole time. Her favorite part was when the little llama was mad at mama and he threw store objects everywhere.

Plot
The plot of Llama Llama mad at Mamawas mainly in the store. The book started off when mama llama needed to go to the store. Little llama didn’t want to go the store. He wanted to go to the fun house. Then mama llama said, “If we go shopping together then we can go to the fun house together.” Next both llamas went to the store and little llama didn’t like it at all. Little llama said Mama was taking too long. Little llama got so mad, he started throwing everything in sight. Mama got very disappointed at little llama. Mama llama told the store manager that they would clean the store up because they made the mess. After all the mess was cleaned up Mama took little llama to the fun house for cleaning up the mess he made.

Recommendation
I recommend the book Llama Llama Mad at Mama for kids ages three to eight. I recommend these ages because a two year old might not get the content of the book or might not under the words; however kids older than eight are getting older and should be reading a little bigger books. I recommend this book to both genders, because the plot could happen to either a girl or boy. Overall, this book is a cute story that shows little kids to clean up their mess.

Llama llama home with Mama is a part of the Llama Llama series written and illustrated by Anna Dewdney. This series is ideal for preschool children and beginner readers.

In this book, llama llama is enjoying his Saturday morning playing, when his Mom takes him to go shopping. Llama, llama is not happy! Yucky music, big feet, and picking things to eat are not his idea of a good time and he throws a real fit in the middle of the store. How does Mama react to him throwing things out of the cart?

Again, Anna Dewdney shows how she really gets preschool kids and knows a lot about parenting as well.

Text-to-Self

I could relate to this book. Because when I was younger I used to be mad at my mother when we went to the store. I felt like my mother took forever in the store. But I would have never acted like that Llama did. I think that the book also could be used for teaching as well. This book could teach people goes to have patience especially kids. Because sometimes it is a frustrating thing to go to any store with parents. I know my kids get frustrated when we go to the store. So I do like LLAMA mom did and I make it out of a game for them. Making it a game makes my shopping experience a whole lot better.

Any child who hates to go shopping with mom, and any mom who hates to take her kids shopping will understand this book all too well. Dewdney knows how to write a good book in rhyme, and her illustrations are fabulous--who knew how expressive a llama's face could be. This one is as good as the original "Llama Llama Red Pajama" and I hope Dewdney has more adventures planned for Mama and Llama Llama!

You can tell the author has children of her own. These llama llama books are amazing. This book is about llama throwing a fit in the grocery store. Together, they repair the damage and walk away as friends. The illustrations are beautiful and the stories are real and teach meaningful lessons to children.

We love the "Llama, Llama" books and this one perfectly captures the "joy" of shopping with little ones. A great story to read aloud, with adorable illustrations (so expressive) and fun, rhyming narrative.
